Military can provide an education unlike any university can. In fact most military academies are some of the hardest schools to get into in the U.S. Even basic enlisted folk are given a great education that will fuel a career once you get out.

hurf durf everyone in the military is an infantry grunt so the military doesnt prepare you for anything hurf durf
The majority of the jobs you can pick in the military do not involve directly going into combat, EVERYONE is trained in basic combat skills so they know how to fight if they need too, but it's not there primary job.
