Apparently it accepts zipcodes from out of the country. Signed. Don't like the look of where that bill would take Canada. And, y'know, same continent and all.
Signed :buddy:
Signed.
Can Americans sign too?
Signed this. I know this died in parliament last election, and I'm hoping that this doesn't come back up any time soon. If it does, I foresee a lawsuit on this against the charter. I signed Stop the Meter to save my internet once, and it worked, I still have unlimited service on Primus, and now I'm not going to hesitate to sign this to save my internet service and net neutrality again.
Can Americans sign too?
American zip codes seem to work for the petition, at least.
Even if they didn't, A1A 1A1 is actually a valid Canadian postal code, somewhere in Newfoundland or Nova Scotia, you could put that in the box instead.
Signed, 2 times :smug: with different name and email. Come on people, lets save the internet from this kind of stupidity like this!
Internet Service providers should be done with and the government should take over internet providing.
Internet Service providers should be done with and the government should take over internet providing.
Then there would be no opposition to this at all, this isn't a proposition from the ISPs, it's preemptive action against a bill the government proposed last session. This one's at the fault of the government, and would be even easier to implement if they offered all internet service. Why can't we have a tech-savvy government like Norway?
Internet Service providers should be done with and the government should take over internet providing.
Yeahhh no. The government has no business involving themselves with the internet.
Internet Service providers should be done with and the government should take over internet providing.
Congratulations, you just created a government monopoly.
Unfortunately, TELUS and Shaw Communications are going to launch UBB soon. http://www.digitalhome.ca/2011/04/shaw-and-telus-expected-to-implement-ubb-later-this-year/ This article was after all the meetings Shaw had.
Fortunately, the CRTC hearing hasn't happened yet so they won't be able to do this until July. And the government already said that if the CRTC allows UBB to go ahead, they will overrule them. What ISPs want doesn't matter much when the government has already promised to legislate against their wishes. We still need to hold them to it though. [editline]22nd June 2011[/editline]
Yeahhh no. The government has no business involving themselves with the internet.
That's not true. Governments should be mandating net neutrality and the like. [editline]22nd June 2011[/editline] OpenMedia just sent out their official press release for the Stop Spying campaign. [release]"Every single provincial privacy commissioner has spoken against this bill,"[/release]
Anything for my home country. Signed, of course.
I didn't sign it, since I'm not Canadian. But don't get me wrong, I do hate liberals, they always try to take away our freedom.
Conservatives are doing this, not liberals.
I am not happy to hear this stuff is still on the table. Signed. I really hope this has the same impact as the petition before.
Shit like this makes me angry at the Canadian Government, hell even other Governments around the world. The internet is supposed to be a piece of technology that we all have access to but instead they are trying to limit it. I understand that by having everybody not have aliases we can track what everybody is doing alot better, but its a total breech in our rights. Another thing is the fucking UBB that Shaw and Telus are implementing. I was reading an article on it and the first comment was this...
Soread the words guys. It costs the ISP’s like Telus and Shaw ONE CENTS per GB transferred! So at a cap of 100 GB it costs them $1 to transfer that data! Yet Shaw wants to charge $40 a month for internet access that caps at 100 GB? They could cap it to 1000 GB a month and still make 400% profit! But instead, they prefer 4000% profit …. now that’s greed runamuck and our government needs to get involved. Don’t like your outrageous profit margins right now Shaw and Telus? Maybe the government should publically run the ISP’s since they are so cheap to run in the first place and bumb up our taxes a bit to take care of that (and run fiber to everyone’s homes while they are at it). Most Canadians would save LOTS of money yearly if they did this. So what’s the choice Shaw and Telus, do you choose extreme greed? Then push out UBB…
Why must everybody be all about maximizing profit? I mean yes money is a glorious thing ut why not make a better service that more people ill want to have. It just makes me think that if somebody were to make an ISP and charge a set amount of money, lets say $40, and give a reasonable amount of up/download speed and no fucking cap. I know so many people that would hop right the fuck on that ISP and stay with them. The only fear I would have about that is the fact that only young people would understand its importance, but young people are a great source of greed. It could end up like BroHoster and greed could trump service. /rage Also I signed cause I like my Cyber-Freedom
Have to deal with these conservative bills every 6 months now... Wish the federal election wasn't three days before my 18th birthday...
or how it's essential to a free and open society.
How is it essential? Just curious
How is it essential? Just curious
The internet is the only way to anonymously oppose your government.
Hope this goes over well, I'd sign it if I lived in Canada.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_E4MSI7mjww You guys might need this. Also let me just say that Germany supports you for sure, or at least i do... I'm sure your neighbor to the south also supports you.
signed, I'm tired of these god damn morons and their retarded internet bills.
Then there would be no opposition to this at all, this isn't a proposition from the ISPs, it's preemptive action against a bill the government proposed last session. I signed it.
signed fuck the system yo [editline]23rd June 2011[/editline]
And only Quebec really voted for NDP, pretty sad stuff man. Anyways, I hope this petition actually does something.
Well left wing in the matter that I don't think Quebec will be ever voting for conservatives considering the history behind it (which is dumb in a way) and plus I'm pretty sure Jack Layton promised a lot of things like support for separation if they wished and protecting their language rights and other shit so yea no surprise they voted NDP
Signed it. Nobody will tolerate this type of shit.
I don't live in Canada but I could still sign it. Godspeed.
My god...
Signed. Why do we have people trying to run things they don't understand? There needs to be lawyer positions that specialise in technology so these things are avoided.
