One thing that definitely sucks about show choir drumming is (at least my director) wanted me to sound as much as a machine as possible. During one song it originally had me playing ghost notes on the off beats for a more syncopated groove, and he made me remove them because it detracted from the choir's performance. It made my part a hell of a lot more boring.
Another example is throughout that entire performance you can pretty much hear 4-on-the-floor kicks. I originally had more interesting and technical kicks throughout the show, and during one practice my director came to me and said, "Those kicks are confusing the singers, just make it quarter note kicks."

It's easy! Just grab a pad, some sticks, and learn your rudiments (basically, the backbone of literally every drum piece is made with rudiments in mind).
Also, the total time it took to make this video (including making the piece, memorizing it, and getting a good run of it) took 3 hours.
