I barely get problems buying games on Steam. The only times when I get errors is, when it's expected
to have a huge amount of hits at times like Holiday Sales. It's true that Origin gets less problems, but that's due to the lower numbers of users who buy stuff there.
Steam has a lot more traffic to deal with.

Still not being able to complete single purchase during holiday sale sure puts me in a great holiday mood.

Hm, oh well, that's just my experience. In the last few sales I was able to buy all I want without problems, but that can change from user to user.
