I have one thing to say to you. What if it was your best friend/parent/brother dieing from cancer and you told us about it would you rather have us just go "People die all the time get over it/Why should I care I barely know them" or have us help you instead
Just because an object is coated in a cancer-causing chemical doesn't mean you will get cancer by merely being in the same room with it... Think about the mechanics who douse themselves with oil and gasoline and other harsh chemicals on a daily basis...

If he's handled it (which he has) it's possible that it's entered his system through contact as the palms are very absorbent.

As posted above, it may absorb through the skin. Also, if it's an air conditioned house, the chemical could be flowing into other parts of the house as well.
The OP is most likely fine, but should go to a doctor just to be sure.
