Christianity is a drug; it clouds the mind and numbs the body.
What? You realize the Bible says that those who work on the Sabbath should be put to death (Exodus 35:2), right? That daughters of priests who sell themselves should be burnt alive (Leveticus 21:9)? That blows and wounds cleanse away evil (Proverbs 20:30)?
The Bible is what Christianity is built around on. The morals of the Bible are the morals of Christianity.
A much better foundation for morality is empathy. I don't need a book or a priest to tell me what's wrong and right.
Why the fuck are you quoting the old testament? When Jesus came he made all of it invalid. The old Testament is basically just stories in any modern Methodist/Baptist church.
If I am to burn in Hell for all eternity because I don't believe in God, then maybe Satan had the right idea after all.
Who is to say that's what would happen if Hell really existed? Maybe you go and live a life of Earthly and carnal pleasures for eternity and god doesn't want that, so he deceives you.

I find it funny that god made such a huge mistake, he had to use an eraser.
christianity (among some other religions) is the cause why a modern human doesn't have to be aggressive or violent to be succesfull
Man, I feel the same way.
I was raised in a Christian family.
They want to go to church every Sunday, I want to stay home.
I always question God.
Im smart enough to know how the world came to be.
Why isn't he helping anything?
I'm lost.

Because he doesn't exist.
I agree, having complete faith in a god and stuff like that does bring pleasant thoughts. But now I would always have the feeling that I am lying to myself and are just running away from any type of truth. This f***ing sucks!
im fucking pissed at mormons, trying to convert you every chance they have.
god loves you all no matter how retarded you are
"Between people of different faiths, or indeed between people of the same faith, the term omnipotent has been used to connote a number of different positions. These positions include, but are not limited to, the following:
A deity is able to do anything that is logically possible for it to do[4].
A deity is able to do anything that it chooses to do[5].
A deity is able to do anything that is in accord with its own nature (thus, for instance, if it is a logical consequence of a deity's nature that what it speaks is truth, then it is not able to lie).
Hold that it is part of a deity's nature to be consistent and that it would be inconsistent for said deity to go against its own laws unless there was a reason to do so.[6]
A deity is able to do anything that corresponds with its omniscience and therefore with its worldplan
A deity is able to do absolutely anything, even the logically impossible.
Under many philosophical definitions of the term "deity", senses 2, 3 and 4 can be shown to be equivalent. However, on all understandings of omnipotence, it is generally held that a deity is able to intervene in the world by superseding the laws of physics, since they are not part of its nature, but the principles on which it has created the physical world. However many modern scholars (such as John Polkinghorne) hold that it is part of a deity's nature to be consistent and that it would be inconsistent for a deity to go against its own laws unless there were an overwhelming reason to do so.[6]"
God is omnipotent.

I'm like you.
Both of my parents slowly found out I don't believe in a god.
My brother, mom and dad, all think that I am a lost soul, that is shrouded with ignorance.
They are the ignorant ones however, they don't understand that I didn't want to turn away.
I was always a little church boy, ignorant of rationality and logic, and I was very "spiritual".
Slowly, as I reached my mid-teenage years I started becoming less spiritual, and a few months before I turned 17, I expressed my agnosticism towards god. And, I've always took interest in Buddhism, the religion that Christianity aspires to be, which is a happy and accepting philosophy on life that welcomes everyone and does not persecute others for their non-belief. So I took on a more Buddhist lifestyle.
Which, I cannot fully live out yet because my parents will not let me even present a image of Siddhartha Gautama on my wall where I could meditate.
But yeah, I wanted to be a Christian and have all of my questions answered, but my unrelenting rationality consumed my faith and gave me a new view on life.
And funny thing is, I quote my brother, he said "trust me, give your life to jesus and your life will improve". When I was a Christian, my life was absolutely horrible. Everything was falling apart. When I gave that up, my grades were better, I got a job and I hardly stress nowadays.
I think everyone has a right to believe in what they want, so I have no problem with the OP being an atheist if he wishes.
On the other hand, I rage at people who attack me for my beliefs (thankfully, the only people who do are restricted to the internet) and I can't help but find it hypocritical when atheists accuse Christians of forcing their religion on other people, only for them to do exactly the same thing to the Christians (and other religions).

That's exactly how I feel.
I'm not even religious but I hate all the stupid religion-bashing that goes on this website.
I dunno my church is Pentecostal and we don't judge anybody, nor are we cult like, sometimes gay couples will come in and sit down and its never an issue, people don't stare, put hands on them, the pastor doesn't tell them mean crap, sometimes he'll just be like "Hi, have a seat anywhere you'd like". I can't stand when people try to scare someone straight with the whole "YOU'RE GOING TO HELL, FAGGOT" speech, we tend pray for anyone who might not be on the right path and not in their faces. And no damnit, not all churches molest boys and preach hate-speech. We just sit down, read some, maybe sing a few songs, and talk about football afterwards. (Or at least thats what most of them do after,) I tend to stick to talking about video games and computers. :frogdowns: I dunno, I like being Christian, I'm kind of the same I was before, only this time I believe in God rather than, you know, not. It can really make people monsters though, I've seen what Westboro baptist is doing, and its pretty crazy stuff. So yeah, believe what you want. Thats cool. Just don't be a dick about it, or I'll make a "Atheism is a drug; it clouds the mind and numbs the body" thread. :smug:
(That was a joke.)
I think you just described my church. It's Lutheran.
BTW, on the other end of the spectrum...

Have fun raging about it.
I agree
I was thinking, that if the explanation of how everything was created, was because of a god, then who created god?
Man of course. :downs:
Wow, I sounded like a dick.
I've never heard of this theory before on facepunch or the internet in general.
Still completely applicable even 7 years later.
