Finally, been waiting for 'Like A Boss' for ages.
I'm not a huge fan of 16 bit but I love this tune, I had it stuck in my head last night at work and couldn't for the life of me remember what it was. Then I woke this morning and it came to me "presidents.."

How hard is it for people to realise that only a small proportion of dubstep is the skrillexian transformer-core they hate so much? The clue is in the title- 'dub'step. Proper dubstep is just a progression of dub, nothing like what Skrillex is putting out.
Also I hate it when I see comments like this flying about "Dub step isn't real music. It's computer generated sounds"
"Classical music isn't real music. It's just instrument generated sounds"
I've been listening to a lot of Blackmill recently, anyone know anything else similar to him?

I just really like his style.

I don't like the majority of dubstep, I used to like all of it but lately no one is original anymore
I only really listen to purple and more glitchy dubstep...
for instance some thing like this, it's no dubstep but it reminds me of it in a way

It's just sick and really original
Are there any good compilation albums around? I find that Dubstep artists generally don't release full albums, and instead just release singles, which makes it really hard to organise and get hold of.
Box Of Dub compilations are awesome.

But it's not real music. Every song follows the same formula and they all sound far too similar. It's takes almost no talent to be good at dubstep, you just gotta figure out how the software works and the rest is easy. It's fun to listen to if you're drinking at a party but it isn't actually any good.

Troll detected.
By your logic the same could apply to any software that requires artistic input. If you know how all the buttons work in photoshop then you'll be next Picasso.
You could use the same argument for any type of music.
Once you learn to play the guitar the rest is easy, so it clearly isn't real music.

I was playing this earlier;

and my mum came into say she liked the sound of it, I told her she probably wouldn't like the other tracks on the record.
She used to be/still is a big reggae and dub fan

I know exactly what I'm talking about. Dubstep is a lot like madlibs if you think about it. Except instead of writing in words you just gotta know what settings to input and sample a different song. You can become a "great dubstep producer" in a month.
I also find it funny how you tell me I need to "learn what the fuck" i'm talking about but you have nothing to actually add to the conversation yourself.

being a painter isn't nearly as formulaic as dubstep production and you know it
Do you dislike all electronic music then? Or is it just dubstep? Do you not like it purely because of the way it's made?
Why come into a thread about something you have no interest in anyway?

I like other styles of electronic music more than dubstep. I've noticed this thread has some good non-dubstep so I come back and check it every now and then. Don't be mad because I speak the truth lol

compared to what?
and that makes it inherently bad?
i could easily say the same thing for the styles you prefer.

No you can't because a guitar takes talent and dedication while pressing buttons on a computer screen can be accomplished by any idiot.

Compared to any other genre of music. Any electronic/rap/rock/funk/etc song took far more effort. work and talent than any dubstep song you can name. It shouldn't be surprising when new songs are shat out almost non-stop. And you can't say that about any music I listen to because I listen to good music, not dubstep.

Ahh I seen this archetype before... the "effortlessly stupid" one.
You shouldn't dislike a type of music because of how easy it is to produce though. You should enjoy it for what it is. No one is saying you have to like it, but you reason for disliking it is stupid.
There is an awful lot of crap dubstep and an awful lot of crap music being labelled dubstep, I'll admit that, but within the genre there is so much stuff that has the ability to take you elsewhere and evoke emotion.
Take something like Burial's work, you can just tell he's put a lot of heart into it. It doesn't matter how easy or how long it takes to make a track, it's all about the content and the way it makes you feel.

Nice. You can insult me all you like but it's obvious you're just angry dubstep being real music is laughable at best. When your argument is "you're stupid" and "you don't know what you're talking about" and nothing else it's obvious you don't even have an argument. I'm going to save us both some trouble and add you to my ignore list.

I don't dislike it because it's easy to produce, I dislike it because it's formulaic and sounds bad to boot. I've heard Burial and a lot of the dubstep posted in this thread and it's mostly garbage, even what you guys call "good dubstep". Also what emotions does dubstep even invoke? Bass doesn't count as an emotion btw.
Let me break it down for everyone else.
Dank Dave's Hilariously Genius Arguments:
1. Effort is the end all be all of music. "If it's easy to make, what's the point?"
2. Dubstep and electronic music is easy to make. "It's just pressing buttons." Mixing? Sound design? Arrangement? Composing? "Nope! You can do all that with indiscriminate button pressing!"
3. Computers aren't real instruments.* Dubstep isn't real music! "Computers don't require real-time human input to output sound, so it obviously doesn't require skill, talent, and dedication!"
* A musical instrument is a device created or adapted for the purpose of making musical sounds. In principle, any object that produces sound can serve as a musical instrument—it is through purpose that the object becomes a musical instrument.
