I love the style of these videos, it adds to the humour.
did you actually play it ?

And I played through the game this weekend at my brother's place on his roomie's PS3. It was incredibly disappointing given the hype. It was resoundingly average. Not bad. Just average.
yes sorry i didn't read [editline]17th July 2013[/editline] Imo, it's honestly one of the best games i've ever played. [editline]17th July 2013[/editline] and i really liked Infinite too, until this came out. Now i can't even play infinite because it just feels not good enough any more.
quality presentation of a story or concept trumps its originality [editline]16th July 2013[/editline] in regards to importance. so what if it has been done before. these guys clearly did it better. get over it

I actually got so entranced in the Candy Crush bit that I forgot it was a Last of Us review
Yeah Infinite might feel bad for fans of The Last of Us because it is p much the same game except Infinite accidently put in too much actual gameplay making it similar to all these disgusting fake games without a compelling story or feels
Instead of being snarky you can also have a legitimate discussion about the idea of gameplay/story segregation, the limits and possibilities of it, etc. The Last of Us has plenty of gameplay and you're just being stupid to deny that. P.S. most of my non-video game friends loved Infinite and The Last of Us so yeah.
So far I'm (mostly) seeing people who play though the game without even putting thought into the characters, their emotions and their stories. You can say characters are generic, but that's like saying another human is generic. Please, in depth, explain to me why the characters are generic? While I agree the AI was rather immersion breaking, the game's story most definitely makes up for it. It give you a story about humans making selfish, human decisions and mistakes. That's the beauty of the game, you're not given a story where you take a role of a character, you're given a game where you take control of a character and watch them through their story. The game isn't deep or profound, it's just a good representation of human nature in a post-apocalyptic setting. It evokes emotion and gets you thinking about what you would do in a situation like that. Sure I can understand someone not liking the game. It's only a 8/10 for me at best. But it's a game that you're not looking at the gameplay for, it's a game you're looking at aesthetics, writing and acting for. Luckily it stays interesting, and that's why the okay gameplay works for it.
But it's a game that you're not looking at the gameplay for, it's a game you're looking at aesthetics, writing and acting for.
Protip: That's not a good thing in the medium of video games.
Protip: That's not a good thing in the medium of video games.
Very, very true. But the gameplay in this is average, maybe slightly above. I only noticed 3 instances of the AI being wonky on me. And I think for a TPS it did that part well. If the AI had been polished and the gun play had been tweaked a bit, it would have been great in all departments in my book.
I thought the best gamers disbanded?
they disbanded and then rc64 and a few others started up loudhouse and then now they're back to tbg.
i just assume that anyone who says the last of us has a 'generic' or 'average' story hasn't played it yeh the setting and themes aren't special and there's a lot of cliches in the plot with regards to the apocalypse genre, but the ending is certainly nothing i've ever seen before and i found it pretty damn chilling and interesting but even if you still think the story is generic and crappy after finishing the game, you still can't argue against the fact that the, so-called 'generic', story was pulled off with more finesse than almost any other game ever made. the voice acting, environment art and animation is miles ahead of pretty much everything else on the market [editline]17th July 2013[/editline] and regardless of all that the gameplay is still pretty solid anyways. on it's own the gameplay would probably make it a decent 7/10 game. there's a few shitty 'gamey' bits like overly long tower-defence sections and the tension and stealth falls apart a bit at the end, but overall it stands up on its own [editline]17th July 2013[/editline] it reminds me of when people used to say things like "lol kojima should have just made films because there's so many cutscenes in his games XD" ... but the gameplay inbetween those cutscenes has always been groundbreaking and original and way ahead of its time. that's not quite the case with the last of us because the gameplay there isn't especially new or interesting but there's still a weird sentiment going on i blame the press for hyping it up to the point that everyone is looking for reasons not to give it a perfect 10/10 'best game ever' even though it's a very solid 8 or 9
Naughty Dogs pulled a MGS4 with The Last of Us. It's an amazing experience, not so much an amazing game, and pretty much every reviewer already specified this if you actually read any of them. It has nothing to do with hype. [editline]17th July 2013[/editline] In fact, The Best Gamers' review we just watched said that exact same thing (although it was drowned out by candy).

I'm so glad they did the candy crush thing. Me and my friends hate this game with a passion after going clean.
