lol sucks for you, hope the fine is costly
I'm well aware that it's not a proper excuse, I find the law a bit nit picky. I'm pretty sure you didn't read up on every single minor infraction you could possibly commit, it's not an obligation nor is it generally necessary.
"nit-picky"? a helmet can save you from death in a variety of situations, which keeps potential well-adjusted and helpful members of society from falling head-first into rocks and dying. saying just because a law is obscure it doesn't count is inane. just because you haven't heard of a law does not mean it doesn't legally bind you. that would be silly. besides helmet laws ore pretty well known anyways.
First, calm down. Seriously. Internet tough guy right here. Next, This isn't comparable to a seat belt. If you get in a head-on collision at 60 mp/h - a seat belt could save your life. A helmet, will not.
Your head is important. If you do find yourself in that situation, ANYTHING that can reduce the impact is extremely useful. If you break a few bones, they eventually heal. If you hit your head and damage something important, you're basically fucked. There are few safety features on a bike for collisions or falls, so you have to wear something for protection. I wouldn't really compare a helmet to a seatbelt, I'd compare it to an airbag which prevents you from slamming your face into the wheel.
I plan on wearing one once I purchase my road bike. It's too tedious to carry along with me all day simply because I bike to and from school, a 5 minute trip. Regardless, I intended this to be more of a debate on personal choice rather than the usefulness of a helmet.
Then walk, if its a 5 minute trip on bike it'll be a 10 min trip walking, problem solved, you don't have to wear a helmet.
When you rode off to go home it would have been great if he wrote you all more tickets for riding without a helmet again
he should've just given you guys a warning imo
Then walk, if its a 5 minute trip on bike it'll be a 10 min trip walking, problem solved, you don't have to wear a helmet.
I bike faster than 2x my walking speed. It's about 20 minutes of walking.

It should be personal choice, do you guys disagree with that?
Understood, though not my point. It should be personal choice, do you guys disagree with that?
So you would choose to crack your skull open over than wear a helmet and not crack your skull open?
Understood, though not my point. It should be personal choice, do you guys disagree with that?
It's the law, for fuck sake. No personal choice about it.
So you would choose to crack your skull open over than wear a helmet and not crack your skull open?
Quite the over-generalization. He gave us a speeding ticket. In the "speed" box on my friend's -- he put "3" You'd be in more danger running than biking at that speed.

Why do you refuse to wear a helmet? Is it not "cool" to wear one or something?
I thought it was pretty obvious about the law. Whether they enforced it or not was a different matter.
Why do you not want to wear a helmet? Is it not "cool" to wear one or something?
It's bulky and I'd have to carry it around all day. Can't clip it onto my bike, as it would get stolen (happens all the time), can't fit in locker. So I'd have to walk around all day with it.
Why were you riding a purple bike in the first place? That's why the cop was looking at you like that, men don't ride purple bikes.
since when does a helmet not fit in a locker
What exactly do you have agaisnt helmets?
Very uncomfortable for one. Another reason is I live in a small town where everything is 5 minutes away. When I do go on my Bike Hikes I often go very far, approximately an hour or two hours away from my home. If I were to get into an accident it would be on a highway where a semi would decimate my skull whether I am wearing a helmet or not.
On other thought, alcohol is legal, but not being careful with it could result in tragedy, violence, murders, whatever. Not wearing a helmet is illegal and when not careful, could result in personal injury but injury of another is significantly more rare I believe.
I share with someone, so it's got very little room not occupied by books. And it's a deep purple mountain bike that's like 10 years old :saddowns:
If that doesn't convince you, I find I am also a very skilled cyclist as I've had my fair share of wipe outs as a child and I don't ride to do stunts. I ride to go from point A to point B. So I don't exert myself, and I don't put myself in a position to wipe out. The only time I can wipe out is by an outside force such as a vehicle, other cyclist, or possibly a pedestrian jay walking.
O.P.: Ever been hit by a car while riding a bike? Wear a helmet FFS! Even a 10mph hit from a car can kill you.
O.P.: Ever been hit by a car while riding a bike? Wear a helmet FFS! Even a 10mph hit from a car can kill you.
No, because I bike on the sidewalks.
How are you complaining? It's been illegal to ride a bike without a helmet for years. http://www.bhsi.org/mandator.htm In California it's been illegal since you were born.
No, because I bike on the sidewalks.
That's illegal around where I live. Only children can bike on the sidewalk as the road is too dangerous for them. However adults must ride on the road because somehow a cyclist is more dangerous to a pedestrian than a vehicle is to a cyclist. I don't get it, but I rather not get a ticket.
No, because I bike on the sidewalks.
According to your ticket, you weren't. And yes, I can read over a ticket in less than 4 seconds, regardless of handwriting.

He is probably under 18. The style is "Herp, fuck da law, i no car fer saftey, i no look cuul.:. It's just "not cool" to wear a helmet. If you want to go cracking your skull open, don't blame the government.
This is damage with a helmet on. I would be fucking dead without it.
