I saw some kid fall flat on his face yesterday on his way to school. Serves him right for not wearing a helmet.
I think where I live it's 14 and older can decide.
To be honest though, even though I don't always follow what I'm saying, you should wear one. I know someone who had brain damage from hitting the pavement, while wearing a helmet. She doesn't remember what happened around that time, lucky it was on her road and a neighbor saw that she was down. But nobody knows how she ended up there, our guess is someone ran up behind her with a car, and drove away. But had she no helmet on her head? Probably dead, or comatose.
So guys, I was riding my bike to elementary school, and I fell off and broke my arm. Helmet didn't help for shit.

He is either
That's illegal around where I live. Only children can bike on the sidewalk as the road is too dangerous for them. However adults must ride on the road because somehow a cyclist is more dangerous to a pedestrian than a vehicle is to a cyclist. I don't get it, but I rather not get a ticket.
It's because a bicycle is treated the same as a car. You have to follow all the same rules.
I know were I live it's illegal to ride a bike on the sidewalk.
A helmet will save you from some kind of injury eventually. Whether it's a minor or a major one, so why not get one you like? No one will call you a faggot if you wear a full face, they'll just think you do some intense bike riding.
They're also super comfortable, just takes a little getting used to with the added weight and decreased field of vision.
i always laugh at people who ride bicycles and wear motocross helmets, you are riding a peddle bicycle, not going 65 MPH on a 223cc motorcycle
Wear a helmet.
Where did I say it was a motorbike?
I thought you mentioned a dirt bike. Either way helmets are a smart idea

But a motorbike helmet gives you that much more protection :downs:
i disregard helmets and smoke cigs when i ride bike
i look double cool
in reality helmets do help but biking around on roads is still very dangerous, be wary of trucks and cars and shit, helmet or not you can get splattered easily

i suppose then they should wear knee, shin, elbow pads, with a neck brace and an impact rig

I'm glad my neighborhood is out of the way. Then again, I typically just walk. More exercise that way.
You must have looked like you were up to something most cops wouldn't give a fuck. If you show up to court they will throw it out
One of my dad's best friends (who he used to do a lot of mountain biking with between the ages of like 25 and 40 or so (before we moved) saw a guy waiting at some traffic lights on a bike without a helmet many-a-year ago. He's just sitting there on his bike, one foot on the ground, one foot on his peddle, waiting there casually for the lights to change. Then... he slipped or something. I'm not sure on the details but he fell.
His head hit the curb. He died almost instantly.
He wasn't cycling at 3 miles per hour. He was STATIONARY when he fell and he DIED.
I've had helmets save MY life at least twice. As a little kid the brakes on my bike, which I had had for a few years by that point, decided to finally give out one day. I went flying down hill, crashed into one of my neighbours front gardens, flew over my handlebars, and landed head first in amongst a tonne of big, jagged rock. I'd certainly be dead had it not been for wearing a helmet (or, at the very 'least' I'd have severe brain damage).
Helmets are there for a fucking reason. Like my dad's always told me, wearing a helmet is NOT going to affect your life in any negative way whatsoever. The only thing you stand to lose is two god damned seconds of your life. NOT wearing a helmet could result in the fucking END of your life.
To be quite frank, if you don't wear a helmet: You're a stupid fucking idiot.

In response to your story: It was a freak accident. One could argue if someone was running, there's a chance of the same happening.
Regardless, I plan on wearing a helmet from now on simply because I don't feel like falling into this situation again. I'm getting a roadbike soon, I'll be biking in the street at faster speeds.
*Shit about how helmets don't save lives*
I, like sltungle can attest to the protection that helmets provide. Once I was biking back from the city when for some reason my front wheel locked up, causing my entire bike to flip and smashing me headfirst against the pavement.
If i wasn't wearing my helmet I would have gotten seriously fucked up, maybe even killed.
If you don't wear your helmet you deserve the idiotically pointless death that you will fall victim to.

It's a freak accident which COULD have been avoided if he had been wearing a helmet.
There's no fucking reason NOT to. Is it worth your LIFE to look cool? Or to be a rebel fighting da police? No. It's not fucking worth it.
It's also against the law to litter, punishable by a fine and possible court appearance.
My point is, while it is a law, it's one those hardly enforced laws. The cop was doing his job though, albeit he was also a dick. Someone shoved a stick up his ass and in order toget it out, he pulled over a group of 15 year olds for not wearing a helmet.
I know for a fact and seeing as i've read some already. most fp'ers will agree with the cop but if you really look at the details here, the OP should not have been ticketed and given a court date. The cop could have easily of just pulled them over and then told that, in the future, they should be biking with a helmet on.
This is a bad thread and you should feel bad.
It's because a bicycle is treated the same as a car. You have to follow all the same rules.
What I said went way over your head didn't it? Or did it even get that far? A vehicle hitting a bicycle or a bicycle hitting a vehicle will in almost all cases (99.99%) cause injury to the cyclist. A cyclist and pedestrian colliding will have the two walk away with bruises, maybe a few scratches. Which is more dangerous?
You don't know Facepunch, there is always someone else on here with a differing opinion to yours.
Fuck all of you.
It's a freak accident which COULD have been avoided if he had been wearing a helmet.

Actually i doubt that. Seeing as he "slipped" (by the way you're story is null and void seeing as you weren't "sure on the details") and fell tothe ground, presumable 4-5 feet and died, there was probably an existing condition which provoked the death. You need to really try to get killed by smacking your head on the ground from a small distance.

Shit's serious bro, I've fallen at 3 miles per hour on my longboard. I was on the sidewalk and my trucks got caught on the sides of it, put my hands down to catch myself, but I rolled, slicing my knee open and fracturing my wrist.
Thank God I was wearing my helmet. Because it fucking broke.
at 3 miles per hour.
I like how the OP argues against every valid stories going "it wouldn't happen to me, i'm more smart than that :downs:" and can't POSSIBLY imagine that he could get in to an accident where he cracks his skull and it's not his fault, it's some drunks.
Well I am going to ride my bike plus or minus 8000 miles to school and back. (over 2 years) and the accidents probality is going to be high. So I am going to wear a helmet do what you want though.
Thats retarded, it reminds how someone I know got a ticket for Biking past the speed limit.
Dumb reason for a ticket. But still helmets protect you from major head damage. Dont wanna be humpty dumpty on the sidewalk chillin out on your bike without a helmet!
Everyone stop posting and just look at his avatar! He obviously wants to break his head open.
