• So apparently it's against the law not to wear a helmet while biking?

It's a shame OP didn't fall off his bike and crack his skull open.
Yes it can. EDIT: And to hammer the point home:
That's because more people wore helmets dipshit. Those statistics are skewed too, they're all deaths by bicycle. A helmet protects against head injury, but it's not the only way you can die on a bike, car collision is another way.
Honestly, if someone doesn't want to protect their brain from injury it's a shit brain to begin with.
It's not the law here, but most people I see are pretty good wearing helmets and proper clothing while on their bicycle. On their motorbikes, on the other hand, I see idiots riding with khaki shorts and no shirt all over the damn place. Sometimes I hope they crash and get massive road rash to the bone to teach them a fucking lesson.

In the UK it's illegal to cycle on the pavement (sidewalk) and you can get fined for it.
By bike you mean bicycle? Cause what kind of pussy country demands you wear a helmet while cycling, and why are you guys al saying he should have worn a helmet? It's just a bicycle, deal with it. Edit: Ouch, the dumbs...they hurt. :smith: Do wear my helmet on my moped though even if it isn't mandatory.
^ That. In my country helmets are mandatory only for motorcycles. Bicycles have separate roads, or are discouraged from riding on traffic-y roads...
By bike you mean bicycle? Cause what kind of pussy country demands you wear a helmet while cycling, and why are you guys al saying he should have worn a helmet? I got hit by a car while wearing my helmet. I broke my leg and got fined for not using hand signals. :saddowns:
You think these laws are absurd and pointless until you're in a situation where it would actually save your life. My dad wouldn't be alive right now if it wasn't for him wearing a helmet, and it wasn't because he was going high speeds or was hit by a car, just a dodgy bit of road and unlucky placement of a curb.
Shit, the same thing happened for my dad. He usually didn't wear a helmet but that day he did, had he not his brains would had been all over the pavement. And my dad would have been dead when I was at the age of 1. So wear your fucking helmet.
I broke my leg and got fined for not using hand signals. :saddowns:
Does anybody even use hand signals anyways? I literally have seen no one do it, ever.
Because it's impossible to be killed or grievously injured in a bicycle crash. Right.
Did not say that, just that a helmet on a bicycle seems a bit overkill, might be because in the Netherlands we have separated bicycle-lanes and mostly everyone learns to ride one at age 3/4.
My point isn't that I didn't break the law, the point is that it's an absurd law. We don't need laws telling us what's safe for us.
As was proven impressively by your friend breaking his skull.
I always wear my bicycle helmet, I have something to protect up there.
Anyone mature and smart enough can easily see the connection between mass, velocity and danger.

For each law our freedom is limited. I think it's nice having people advising me to wear protection, to stay away from certain drugs and so forth. But when they force me to do such things by threatening with fines and prison, I find it extremely stupid. We are all that is, has been and will ever be (quote David I.), having any form of limitation for our endless potential is fucking stupid.
Here in the Netherlands, everyone bikes and nobody wears a helmet. Also, it's illegal to bike on the pavement. Luckily, we have separate bike lanes in many places.
I just wear a full-knight armor so I am completely sure that I won't die if a car hits me. [img_thumb]http://www.arcimboldeb.com/img/eventi/armi1/49.jpg[/img_thumb] I also equip a lance every now and then if I want to battle someone to death on the way to the bus stop.
Blunt weapons are designed to transfer kinetic energy right through plate armour. Getting hit by car = massive blunt damage ;-)
It's a dumb law and I think it should be ignored. I'm happy we don't have this stupid law in holland. Make photographs of kids on bikes without a helmet, blur outtheir faces and show it to the judge. Tell him that lots of people we doing it at the same time and the cop just ignored them. He selectively chose you to fine. It's against he law to selectively chose a person to fine even though others around them are breaking the same law.
Hey dumbass, A helmet is the thing that saves your stupid ass like a seatbelt saves your stupid ass in a car. If you don't wear one you deserve to have your brains splattered in the pavement because you are too damn stupid, of course the government decided to help you dumbasses along and give you a law to keep it on.
you're tough cause you swear
In the UK it's illegal to cycle on the pavement (sidewalk) and you can get fined for it.
Oh god if Poland enforced that law . The lorry drivers are crazy here
You're stupid, everyone knows about this I'm sure. I knew about this law when I got my bike, but I didn't wear a helmet because I go where the cops don't travel very often.
i'm getting pissed that cops do stuff like this just for the money
Yeah fuck the cops doing stuff that they're meant to do when they're meant to do it it's obviously just a conspiracy to keep kids down and totally not save their lives if they're going to get hit by a car.

That's some mad oppression of your freedoms right there! I also think we should get rid of seatbelts, airbags, speed limits, lane markers, crosswalks, and any rules of the road for both bicicles and cars. And there's a seperate graph for car collisions on the website that I cited, but it doesn't change that over 90% of the deaths (both car related and not) the person had no helmet on.
I don't see how having to wear a helmet is "limiting your freedom". That's stupid. I mean unless you have a gorgeous head of Fabio-hair that you need on display 24-7, then there's no reason to NOT wear a helmet.
I work at a level 1 ER, I've seen the effects of not wearing a helmet when riding a bike. if you like bleeding out of your ears, brain damage, being in a comatose state, dying, or getting the ER floor covered in blood and ruining my shoes then more power to you.
By bike you mean bicycle? Cause what kind of pussy country demands you wear a helmet while cycling, and why are you guys al saying he should have worn a helmet? It's just a bicycle, deal with it.
Easy for you to say since yours still has training wheels
This is damage with a helmet on. I would be fucking dead without it.
