There should be a thread for the band Yes. People are starting to forget that greatness too.
Something we can finally agree on. Yes are fucking fantastic. Relayer, Going for the One and Close to the Edge are all either in or near my Top 10 albums of all time. I have found my thread :buddy: Pink Floyd is the one band that has always been my favorite and may always will be. The first time I listened to DSotM was when I was a little boy (about ten years ago) and I asked my dad what was good music and what was bad music. (Come on, I was a kid. Haha) Anyway, he put on a copy of the album and we listened all the way through it. He explained the meanings of all the songs and the ways that the lyrics related to society, and even if I didn't understand it all I trusted his judgement on the album, and fell in love with it. I don't care if my first impression on the album was biased and that I was listening to something that I would think was awesome whether it was good (imo) or not. Dad passed away about a year ago, God rest his soul. I think my favorite song is Time or Brain Damage, but I like all of them. Not everyone likes Money, but I think the time signature is pretty interesting and that the song is really catchy. This album has shaped me as a person and been there for me when times were tough. Pink Floyd may have better work, (Meddle, Atom Heart Mother, The Wall) but Dark Side of the Moon will always hold a special place in my heart. Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain And you are young and life is long and there is time to kill today And then one day you find ten years have got behind you No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking Racing around to come up behind you again The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older Shorter of breath and one day closer to death

I saw a cover band called The Machine. They were really good. Anyway, one part that I thought was pretty funny was that they changed a lyric from the Breathe reprise.
And when I come home cold and tired It’s good to warm my bones beside the fire
to
And when I come home cold and tired It’s good to smoke a bowl beside the fire

My dad always ends up quoting Pink Floyd when he's teaching me life lessons
Oh my gosh, when I become a dad I want to do that.
Holy crap, never saw this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TWh8fPKTr3k
There should be a thread for the band Yes. People are starting to forget that greatness too.
I made a Yes thread a while back, didn't get far, let me dig it up. http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=878214

I honestly thought Wish you Were Here was better but I do love Dark Side of the Moon. I rage when someone is wearing a DSotM shirt and I say "I like Wish You Were Here better," and they say "Who?"
Roger played with David for that on the condition that David played Comfortably Numb at one of the dates on Roger's The Wall Live tour.
I can see why. I watched some videos of Waters doing Comfortably Numb and they just don't compare without Gilmour. [editline]08:19PM[/editline]
I rage when someone is wearing a DSotM shirt and I say "I like Wish You Were Here better," and they say "Who?"
I find it annoying when people tell me they find x album better when I'm wearing a certain shirt. Like if I'm wearing a Master Of Puppets shirt I don't like it when the first thing people tell me is that they liked Ride the Lighting better. That doesn't happen all too often though because there aren't many metal heads here.
Like if I'm wearing a Master Of Puppets shirt I don't like it when the first thing people tell me is that they liked Ride the Lighting better.
But it's true. :downs:

The lunatic... is in my head......
, and you'll start to think that there really is a lunar tick in your head.
Just realized this in the OP :v:
The Dark Side of the Moon is one of the only albums I've ever bought more than once. When you hear it the first time, you are never the same. It's like watching Monty Pythons Now for something completely different.
Time is the best song.
Time is the best song.
I agree.
As overrated as this song is, the music video is fucking epic (along with the rest of the movie).
It's a great album. The best thing is that the first time I heard it was on LP! :D I like Wish You Were Here better though.
I am staggered that Animals is being forgotten about. It isn't even on Itunes yet most of their stuff is. Such a brilliant concept record.
Tbh I can never really get into Animals. It's okay having long songs but when you have three in a row it begins to drag.
it begins to drag.
True Prog Rock. :colbert:
Welcome to prog rock.
Don't get me wrong, I love prog (caravan, king crimson, and of course Floyd) I just never found Animals particularly powerful. I mean one of my favourite songs is Echoes (at 23 minutes) and I love every second of it, but Animals doesn't have the same effect on me as Echoes.
Listen to it more. Animals is a harder album to get into, I had to listen to it a few times and then it became my favorite album. My friend hated it (except for Pigs on the Wing because it's short) but overtime he's grown into liking it a lot.
This thread should just be renamed 'Pink Floyd'.
I like both Wish You Were Here and Dark Side of the Moon equally. I don't agree with my friends when they say WYWH is better because I believe you get more variation out of DSotM. I've recently gotten into Animals, and I must say, it's growing on me. I really love Dogs,Pigs, and sheep. They are all so good. The longer the better I just love leaving a song on and laying back and listening to it for ages. Meddle's another one I've just gotten into, and it's also starting to sound better and better with each play. Especially Echoes. The Wall is really good, but I believe the four I've mentioned before are better. I still need to get all their other albums.

It kind of reminded me of Animal Farm by George Orwell, maybe it was inspired from that, who knows.
