It kind of reminded me of Animal Farm by George Orwell, maybe it was inspired from that, who knows.
Yep, you are right on that. I believed it got a lot of criticism because it seems to be more political than their other albums.

The part most people always have a reaction to is on Dogs where "the stone" repeats over and over. They usually don't like it at all and wonder what they heck were they thinking when they put it in there. Personally, it is one of my favorite parts and believe it is done very well. You can also here it pop up again in Sheep.
I love that part.
Needs more Crazy Syd's Travelling R&B Band...

I don't understand the mega hype over this. most of it is strange sounds put together, though the song "Time" really spoke to me.

What mega hype? Its just a great album :smug:
Definitely not their best, but yes.
It's not over hype or anything
It wouldn't reach this status if it weren't deserving. Incredible album.
Us and Them is just perfect.

Is it just me? Do I not get some subtle meaning?
I can see why. I watched some videos of Waters doing Comfortably Numb and they just don't compare without Gilmour.

I find it annoying when people tell me they find x album better when I'm wearing a certain shirt. Like if I'm wearing a Master Of Puppets shirt I don't like it when the first thing people tell me is that they liked Ride the Lighting better. That doesn't happen all too often though because there aren't many metal heads here.
I don't say X is better than Y, I say I prefer X to Y.
They have like 15+ albums under different leaders, its amazing that the only albums that ever come up in discussion are DSOTM, The Wall, and Wish You Were Here.
Btw if your looking for vinyl its best to just be patient and go to yardsales as early as possible, I found 3 copies of DSOTM and 2 of The Wall.
Also a reason it's so popular is probably because its flawless and gapless, which is great with vinyl as you don't have to keep getting up and moving the arm.
So I just heard this song again

I need new pants
Listen to it more. Animals is a harder album to get into, I had to listen to it a few times and then it became my favorite album. My friend hated it (except for Pigs on the Wing because it's short) but overtime he's grown into liking it a lot.
I loved Animals since the first time I heard it. Not really much of a stranger to long tracks, but I love how everything comes together so perfectly.
Live At Pompeii is my favourite.
I love "Time". :iia:
"Time" is awesome.
Echoes is amazing, expect for the strange part in the middle I usually just skip it. But the song usually puts me in a trance, I love it.
Is it just me? Do I not get some subtle meaning?
Listen to more prog rock.
That is all :v:
I would argue that it really isn't about drugs. Pink is feeling down and sick, they decide to inject himself when something, and he gets comfortably numb and compares it to the time when he was really sick as a child, The song seems to be more about the industry's push their musicians through extraordinary circumstances such as tranquilizing them so they can perform in a show. But yes, the song does involve a drug, I just didn't choose to list it.
Actually, the song is about Pink's fear of performing live, so the people around him trick him into taking all kinds of medicine so he won't be afraid.
They take over, and subsequently destroy his life.
Personally I find that Pink Floyd is muc too glorified for one or two specific albums, where all of their more obscure music is so absolutely brilliant.

Those are more "Prog Rock" than The Wall or DSOTM, those ones are more art rock.

First time I listened to this I hated, but now it and all its "Syd-ness" is growing on me.
