Awesome, also what ever happened to you doing issues based around audio diaries jack finds?
Damn, this made me laugh quite a bit.
I may not have played all the way through Bioshock. Watching this comic makes me want to get it back again, and played it all the way through, RIGHT NOW!
Awesome, also what ever happened to you doing issues based around audio diaries jack finds?
Well, I'm still kind of figuring out which ones I want to do, because there are hundreds of them in the game, so it'd be a little hard to get them all, and most of them don't really give any backstory insight, so I think I'm sticking to the plot(and Diane McClintock)-relevant ones. Diane doesn't actually have any audio diaries in the wharf, and I've already got the Lutz's ones drawn, but I guess I can put more in there eventually.
...So recently I've been seeing some of my doodles around the internet and I thought it'd be fun for me to document them all, so ladies and gentlemen, I am now officially a Jackspotter. I believe Pie_Tony has posted in this thread. :v:
I love when people use yer stuff, it makes you feel so accomplished... or robbed, depending on the level of use v:v:v
doop doop doop update time doop doop doop update time it's time for an update doop doop doop Page 56 Page 57 Now, there is an interesting story behind this set of pages (apologies for not updating yesterday by the way). Somewhere, at SOME point at SOME area of the game, I have no idea where or when, but you bust open a vent and crawl in, and there's this tired looking lady smith splicer who's just kinda sitting in a chair. When you crawl into the room she's all drowsy and like "Darling, did you get my blah blah blah random mumbling?" Then she just kinda meanders over to you and attacks you until you kill her. This is where Jed and Larry stemmed from. I thought it was an interesting little anecdote in the game so I wanted to expand on it, but I had no idea when or where it happened, and it isn't mentioned in my script source (here is my script source by the way, if you can find a better one, let me know) so I was kind of out of luck. Then I decided that there is an empty point in the game in which you're just following the arrow to the next destination, so I made up Jed and Larry and inserted a backstory. This is probably not the last time I plan on doing something like this so I kind of apologize if you don't want me to deviate from the story too much. I won't I promise, but I just have plans for certain little miscellaneous characters here and there that don't really affect the main plot. Let me know if you want me to stop doing that and I'll make Jed and Larry the last ones, but either way I'm fine with it. Enough of my rambling, though. Back to your lives, good readers!
Greatest thing I've ever seen in Creationism Corner. Love it Doomish, major props.
Unfortunately there will be no update today because I am leaving town as soon as I get out of work, which means it is time for a smith emote. :smith: I shall return as scheduled on Monday, however!
SUPER SUNDAY UPDATE 2: ELECTRIC BOOGALOO! Well, I felt bad about not updating for like three days last week so I figured I'd post three pages today and three pages tomorrow and that will make me karmically balanced again. Page 58 Page 59 Page 60 Well, Larry wasn't around for long, but he was the first one to get a last name, so yay for him! Well, yay retracted, because he was planning to sell Jack out in the first place, but hey, a win is a win, right? Then again, he IS the first one to get a last name... Eh, we'll just call his yay factor neutral for now. See you Monday! If you're wondering why I killed off Larry, you may remember when I said I didn't plan on deviating from the story too much. If Jed and Larry became part of the actual cast, they may overshadow Jack. If Jack has a traveling companion for more than a few pages at a time, it starts to lay waste to the feel of loneliness that Bioshock sets. I had a couple more pages drawn up before this happens, in which Jed goes with Jack to get the camera, but since I don't plan on killing Jed off (I have other plans for him), their goodbye would be awkward since neither of them really have much else to do. Besides, it wouldn't be as fun for Jack to have a buddy to take Peach down with, would it? :V Well, the only real way to keep these guys from becoming physical characters (because they're just too likable as is) is to kill them off, unfortunately. I can't just have them be like "oh well we have to go this way now" and leave because, as TVTropes says, that'd be Putting Them On The Bus, and I'm trying to avoid doing that with as many characters as I can. The only way Jack can have a friend in Rapture is if they die before the end of the chapter, which, as morbid as it sounds, is what actually happens in the game if you think about it. Someone dies in every chapter (well, if you don't count Sander Cohen, whose only death is that of his adversaries) of the game besides the first. Peach, Atlas' family, Julie Langford, Sander Cohen...'s enemies (:V), Ryan (by this point I'm assuming you've played the game to the end), Atlas, and eventually Fontaine. Though it may not seem like it, I do put thought into these characters, and things like this are problems I wish I had another way of solving because once the game really gets going, there isn't much room for error before people will start going "now hold on a minute, you're going way too far away from the game here", and I want to get the best of both worlds: Make a successful comic, AND make an enjoyable experience. It's something professional cartoonists come across every now and again, and by now I'm just rambling to myself, so I congratulate you if you read this whole paragraph. Laters!
Nice ending to number 60. Can't wait for tomorrow's update.
Nice ending to number 60. Can't wait for tomorrow's update.
That's funny, I can't wait either! It's mostly because I'm going to start trying to show the effect excessive splicing is having on Jack's mind, but y'know, not going too in depth into that yet. Also, since it was at the bottom of the page:
SUPER SUNDAY UPDATE 2: ELECTRIC BOOGALOO! Well, I felt bad about not updating for like three days last week so I figured I'd post three pages today and three pages tomorrow and that will make me karmically balanced again. herp derp did not update yesterday Page 61 Page 62 Page 63 All good things have to come to an end sometime, and unfortunately, Jack has just left Rapture and walked right into crazyville, but only for a moment. As you can see, Jack has not only gone off the deep end temporarily, but also uncovered the immense power that comes with the obligatory evil side of him. Will he choose the path of righteousness as per Tenenbaum's request? Or will he decide being spliced up and insane is better for him in the long run? Only time will tell. The reason I had Jack punch out Jed is because, well, you can't have the main character tagging along with someone who wants to kill him. It wouldn't work like that. Plus, I wanted Jack to seem like he was letting Atlas' mindset get to him a little, so I had a fist connect with a face and the problem was solved. Don't think this is the end of Jed, though, he'll be back eventually. A simple punch isn't enough to kill someone, just make them a little upset. ALSO, Jack and Tenenbaum never really do any true interaction until the game is like 3/4 over, so I figure they should at least talk to each other sometime. Also also, in case you didn't notice, I'm trying to make Atlas seem like the bad guy here. Also also also, I've been trying recently to include a little commentary after I post pages (and not just to keep myself busy while Imageshack processes them :U). What do you think of this? Do you read this? Am I just an insane rambling madman? And more importantly, should I keep doing this? A little insight on my thinking is good, but do you think reading these "informative paragraphs" is boring? Let me know sometime.
DOOMISH'S INTERNET IS REALLY SHITTY! Yes, you heard it right. My internet is in fact very slow because my router is broken, meaning I have to connect to other peoples' "free" unsecured wireless networks, and the closest one I can get is 4 MB/S, which unfortunately means I won't be able to use the internet too often until my router is fixed. I'll try my hardest to update over the next few days but please don't hate me if I don't because it's not my fault. :( [editline]07:38PM[/editline] Today's update, however, is intact! Page 64 whoops oh shit i named a plot character splicer the same thing as an audio log character and the two have nothing to do with each other my bad :U
I wanna make an avatar out of the first several panels of comic 62...
GUNS IN MY ASS oh lawd.
On today's update: Jack comes across a couple of corpses who have effectively soaked up the humor in the comic! Way to go Lutz family! Page 65 Look, everyone! It's the first page of the comic without any funny on it! What a momentous occasion! :smith: Join me tomorrow when we finally conclude part one of the comic!

daijitsu why are you the best mod in the entire forum
Because he has a sense of humour and is just cool like that.
Look, everyone! It's the first page of the comic without any funny on it! What a momentous occasion! :smith:
It was still very good. The quality of this comic just keeps improving.
I just got to this reading this comic, and all I have to say is WOW. Your simple drawings and humor make it the kind of comic I'd expect to buy at a book store. Keep it up, I can't wait for the next one
I haven't been able to update the comic in the past few days because, well, I was banned. Unfortunate as it is, I'll be back on Monday in case you weren't reassured enough that I'm not going to just give up.
dont give up :ohdear: i love these things
AND THEN HE GOT BANNED AGAIN. /caps
I thought what he got banned for had a rather interesting premise, but was ill-timed and everyone was sick as hell of interactive story threads in MS Paint.
I thought what he got banned for had a rather interesting premise, but was ill-timed and everyone was sick as hell of interactive story threads in MS Paint.
I blame perfumly but don't tell him I said that. :v: Eh, yesterday wasn't an update day anyway. Today, however, is! Page 66 And so, part one of the crappily drawn Bioshock comic ends, on a pleasant (and slightly JackxTenenbaum) note, no less. I WAS going to have it finish on a Friday, but then I got banned for, as perfumly called it, "2 second shit", which is unfortunate, but Monday is as good as any day I guess. I've always found the moral choices aspect of Bioshock interesting, but 2k didn't really pan it out as much as I'd have hoped. It always boiled down to "save or harvest?" and that usually boiled down to "do I have a shiny new plasmid I want to buy right now?" I thought it was an okay system, but it didn't really change anything besides the ending. The Little Sisters are a nondescript entity of sorts. You see them, you know they're there, their past, and all that, and there's a ton of potential there to be used, but it isn't really explored all that much. Just one of the few complaints I had when I first played the game. Anyway, the reason I planned the comic out into parts is so that I could have a few days to finish up the next part (I'm knee deep in part four at the moment) before having to update again. See, I draw nearly all of the pages of the comic in advance. In fact, Jack is lost in Arcadia for me right now. This can present a problem because I can't go back and do something over because it would completely change the story now. I was going to have Jed not get punched out by Jack, but since he's a fairly important character later on, it'd mess it all up. The same goes with adding things in. If a part doesn't go on long enough I can't decide to add in more later because it would be an obvious attempt at filler and interrupt what little story there is to follow in Bioshock when you're just wandering the halls of Rapture. See, the process of making a Bioshock comic page is simple for me. I print out an empty page (I do them in packs of 30 nowadays), draw up a comic, and store it away until the time comes to post it, then repeat for whatever free time I have. Then, when the day comes, I pull the page out of the binder, stick it in the scanner, crop it, downscale it (By exactly 55%), and post it. Sometimes there's a little editing required, which can all be done in MS Paint, but I like to use Photoshop instead. Anyway, back to me taking a break, that doesn't mean I'm just going to go dead air for a while. For the rest of the week I'll be posting Concept art, rejected drawings, and whatever else I find in my Bioshock binder (I might post the binder itself). See you guys tomorrow!
That was actually really sad.
For part two of the comic, I decided to do something a little more lengthy. I'm not about to spoil the specifics, but I will say this: The entirety of this part of the comic is Arcadia. Arcadia Arcadia Arcadia. More Arcadia than you could ever want. After I finish up Neptune's Bounty (and the smugglers' hideout), I move onto Arcadia and never look back. ...Well, I look back once or twice, but that's because certain dead characters aren't actually dead. ;) Anyway, the second part of the comic is definitely longer than the first, and Arcadia itself is probably the length of half the comic so far. I like it that much, and Julie Langford isn't really expanded on that much, so I figured I'd give her a little more of a position in the comic. (I think I said that somewhere before but maybe I'm just going crazy over this thing) So, without further hesitation, Part two: Only Thing Worse Than A Hypocrite (brownie points if you can pick out the audio diary the quote is taken from) Neptune's Bounty, Part Two Page 67 And so, the second part starts out of the gate early, blushes in embarrassment, and says "uh, this has never happened to me before, i swear, i'm just nervous", then heads back to the starting line for the second preliminary race. why did i just type that what does it even mean anyway later bros :V
Snap, Snappy, Snap! SHUT YOUR WHORE MOUTH! priceless.
