The republicans knew this was going to happen:
They suggest the bill in order to put the dems into a corner; with upcoming elections, if the dems voted it in, the Republicans would wine that they'd have to raise taxes to pay for it. The reps, in turn, would refuse to allow higher tax rates to be reinstated to actually fund this. Because a tax hike would get blocked easily, it would place strain on the fed govt even more and then the reps would go "Hey look how fucking terrible they are at handling money vote us back in in november!"
and if they blocked it the reps get to say "WOW THEY DONT CARE ABOUT AMERICA AT ALL"
it's pure politics, bullshit, but while the Democrats are trying to keep their seats, this all comes back to the reps being sneaky fuckers and forcing them into this position
You actually had faith in the American overnment?
I lost faith around the PATRIOT Act.
Government doesn't care what we think. So just accept it. Like the bitches we are

a-greed. fucking machiavelli creating this political environment where it's more important to fuck the other party over than actually do anything good.
what.?
The American government sucks anyway
America ALWAYS sucked. Well maybe not before they became the world police taking on holy crusades in far away lands after oil.
THIS is what made you lose faith? where the fuck have you been?
I lost faith when bush won despite having Al Gore had the majority.
I lost faith when bush won despite having Al Gore had the majority.
-Snip- My memory is shit after 4 hours of TF2.

Al Gore was charismatic, yes, but, his agendas where about as half-assed as most politicians.
Since Kennedy was assassinated, I think the problem is that most presidents are too afraid, because they know that if they don't please the idiots, they know they are gonna get hurt, or retaliated.
Intellectuals retreat to reason, not violence, and are therefore, neglected.
Jon stewart , stephen colbert, or vader for president
Obama is the best thing politically that could've happened for America after bush.

Legalize pot. :2bong:
People in this thread really need to re-evaluate and confirm things they see or hear. It goes for whether you are right or left.
I completely agree with you, I'm also losing faith in the government.
people who are just losing faith in the government must have been in a comatose state in the bush era
Why don't intellectuals ever have power? It's just charismatic people and people who know the right people. I mean, a lot of congressmen, governors, etc. are probably smart, but there are so many people out there who could do so much better. It's one of the problems with letting the people have power. They all think they know what's best for them.

Looking at the statistics made from research, people would know that the changes made have at least stopped the economy in it's free-fall state. Despite the change we needed to save the economy, there are some discrepancies that make me uncomfortable. We have a huge deficit and taxing those who have an income of larger than $250,000 will hurt us more than it will help us.

It usually just comes between whether him/her can shoulder a better looking ideology than the other guy. You have to remember that most average Americans don't even know what an intellectual would be. I personally think that politicians are able to throw around garbage evidence and lies and get away with it because the American population is so under-educated.
All is lost
Your government does not give a fuck about you people. No matter where you're from. This world has owners. ''Democracy'' only exists to give you an illusion of choice. We are living in a system that's under total dominance by the oligarchs.
Debt will never be paid off because debt is necessary for the system to function, as is human labour. We're all living in the belly of this horrible machine.
I started disliking the American goverment when I saw that the text on their money contradicts with their constitutional law.

Why is he PMSing?
Why didn't it pass despite a majority? The Democrats used a procedure that made the bill require a 2/3rds vote to pass. Why would they make it harder?
You must not know how Congress works.
A 2/3rds vote has been enacted on every bill to ever hit Congress ever. What are you talking about?
Wow, that's bullshit. I would pay higher taxes if it meant that they would get medical care, and I'm sure most people I know would.
On the topic of losing faith in the American government, I lost faith shortly after watching Zeitgeist: The Movie. Although it's mostly conspiracy theory bullshit, it's totally plausible in places and I wouldn't put it past our government. I highly recommend this film. Definitely worth a watch.
On this note, Congress is trying to pass a bill that would drop NASA's yearly funding to $250 million, down from whatever it is now ($15 billion?). When we're talking about a goverment that spends a couple trillion a year, that's ridiculous. I did the math, and if they raised the income tax by 2.5% (as in however much you would normally pay x1.025, not another 2.5% of your income.) they could give NASA another $30 billion a year ontop of whatever they already get. I dunno about you guys, but I would agree to that in a heartbeat.

Unfortunately that is somewhat true. Higher-ups are always playing off another's ignorance for their own gain. Think about it, they LITERALLY depend on others stupidity and naive nature to progress.
Wouldn't mind paying an extra tax for their healthcare, because I know they deserve it.
Why do people's good senses leave them whenever something involves 9/11? The first responders shouldn't get anything extra than they normally would on their job. Can you guess why? Because they were doing their job. They don't deserve anything extra just because they happened to be the first responders on that one day. If they got anything it would have pissed off anyone currently struggling because their husband/wife was killed in the line of duty. Cops/firemen/etc know what they're getting into when they start working, they know they could walk out of their house for the last time each day. While I do consider them heroes I don't think one group of them should get anything extra just for doing their job.
