haha, 2:00 is hilarious. the man is disgusted when he sees them eat that donut :v:. and about them not being able to travel in groups is kinda true, they look like a threat and it's probably just the way they look.
They're so friendly :3
I just watched the whole documentary. A really good watch
Wow. That really made me think about stuff. It got me thinking "in a few centuries when we get time travel working, people might be immigrating to 'now' from ancient times. Imagine explaining even 21st-century life to an ancient Roman, or a Babylonian".
Nice, just finished watching the full movie; watch it.

That's impossible and stupid to even think about, I even think it would fuck over the history as we know it too. Besides, if a person from those time periods would come to these times he would most likely attack anyone that comes near him or kill himself or such shit because he would be scared to death. And anyways I really doubt anyone could explain anything to a roman unless you would be REALLY,REALLY fluent in latin. And it would be impossible to talk to a Babylonian since I doubt anyone in this time period knows Akkadian.
I, personally, am impressed with their English. I know a guy from Jamaica who's much older then them and been here long, but I can't understand a WORD he says.
Oh, wow. I remember watching this documentary during school a few years ago, it was pretty interesting. I might have to watch it again.
I, personally, am impressed with their English. Couldn't understand a fucking word those kids said, and they're from the same fucking country as me.
Pleasant video. Respect life. Cracker, nigger, wetbag.. it's all the same, we are all people.
If only we can mix the hospitality and tolerance of their culture with the technology and know how of ours. BAM!!! perfect world....
First off, I didn't say the American ideology was idiotic. I said the quoted poster's ideology was idiotic. And what generalization am I making? Take any public area in America, you see people avoiding each other or judging others. People keep to themselves because that's how we see society. It's an unspoken standard. It's easy to say "Americans + unsociable/lazy/criminals in the same sentence = generalization!! he's wrong!" But when you get to the root of it, we have these generalizations because for the most part, they're what we've made our country to be. Obviously, Americans will deny it as a toddler would deny microwaving a fork, but actually being a witness to the reality of our society is the defining factor in being able to fairly judge it. I can confidently say that almost all gripes people have with American society are true. especially gripes that come from Americans. I agree that America is nice compared to third-world countries but it's that sense of entitlement, the illusion of freedom, that results in a fucked up population of greed driven, technology dependent, pop-culture mimicking robots whose sole purposes consist of getting from point A to point B in less than an hour. Any human contact being considered a "distraction". Any odd looking people being stereotyped as "dangerous" or "lesser". Sure America has its freedoms, but what are freedoms without a trusted community? Justifying its shittiness by saying "well it could be worse" is creating a scapegoat that only holds us back from our true potential. Having lived here my entire life, I can tell you I completely relate to the uneasiness the Sudanese men are feeling. Not all is well, so don't try to convince yourself it is, or you'll be as blind as the Americans being described in the video. Also I'm not going to argue because I don't e-argue. Just trying to clarify my posts so you know they aren't just baseless generalizations.
It seems like you are viewing America as though it is the only country that dosent have these problems. When in reality Americas social problems are tiny compared to many. Hell look at where the men in the video are from. Sudan has had years of genocide and civil war. America isnt perfect by social standards but a country that is dosent exsist.

If we can do better in creating a welcoming environment and being generally hospitable, especially to these men who have escaped such a hostile environment, we have no reason not to. Instead of saying "there are worse places", we should be saying "we can do better".
Give some respect to these people, their culture is great. [editline]7th April 2011[/editline]
I liked how they are so sociable, which really is something we've come to neglect in America. I feel like this would be a better country if everyone were like these guys. Not to mention, everyone here has made a bad name for themselves: black gangsters, white rapists, mexican illegals....we all created stereotypes for ourselves. These guys exist outside our stereotypes, so while people might think they're black so they must be standing on the side of the road so they can shank unsuspecting victims, they're really there because their culture is one where that is considered to be a sociable thing to do. If we didn't think we had to expect those bad stereotypes, then maybe our culture could be similar. And there's too much crime in America.
I think the role of technology plays a part in why the people of the US act the way they are. Look at the Sudanese, they have nothing compared to what we have and they're still happy as hell
I just love how people are taking advantage of this thread to take shots at America. Oh dear, not everyone in America will let you waltz into their house for fear of theft. Seriously. Would you rather live in a place with friendly people but die from an infection due to minimal health research and supplies?
if you think americans are cold, wait till you meet british people oh boy! [editline]6th April 2011[/editline] before anyone goes off on me, it's extremely british to hate british people that's why patriotic brits are always racist cunts
Every time someone is introduced to a new idea of a new land they didn't grow up in, it brings a weird feeling to me. It's interesting.
What the fuck, people felt intimidated by them travelling in groups. It's called a fucking family, maybe you should try having one. Also, he looked very satisfied when he ate that doughnut.

I'm not racist, my parents taught me better. but seriously, the shop owners were probably scared of theft because deep down inside, they are stereotyping people without even knowing. Its sad really
this is really interesting, I wish I had the time to watch that full documentary to see how they integrated their lifestyles here
yeah, the whole "cultural divide" thing is really weird, but really cool. for example, when i went to cancun mexico, my dad told me that bargaining was customary in mexico and he was good at it, and he showed me how to do it (he lived in mexico for a little bit with his friend before I was born) but when i tried it it felt weird and awkward and i felt like an ass trying to make a $3.00 bag of chips a $1.50 bag of chips. It's a shame they saw Pittsburgh of all places :(
I just finished watching it. That was an incredible documentary
Fuck, I hate living here in the US. So many people make us look like shit. I love greeting strangers and helping people out. Only they don't do the same they just fucking stare at me like I told them to fuck off or something when I say Hello.
if you guys haven't seen the full documentary already, you really should. it provides a lot of insight, it's pretty amazing.
Is it anything like the one where 4 men from Vanuatu go to the UK?
