I never use adblock and do put up with the stupid pre video ads on youtube and others all the time. I DO however use noscript that stops most flash and sound emitting advertisements, i guess its a good compromise.
Are all of you forgetting that now they have ads in the CAPTCHAs....
Are all of you forgetting that now they have ads in the CAPTCHAs....
I've only seen that once. I think I got banned from that forum after complaining about how half the ads were unclear about the actual product, so I don't exactly have high impressions of the sort of site that uses that sort of Captcha
I keep ad block on because every time I visit a page I don't like being greeted with "YOU'RE THE MILLIONTH VISITOR!!! CLICK HERE TO CLAIM YOUR FREE iPHONE!!!" "CONGRATULATIONS, YOU'VE WON!" "PUNCH THE SUMO TO WIN A FREE LAPTOP" "SHOOT 5 DUCKS TO WIN A FREE IPAD" "WHAAATSAYWHATWHAAATWHATHELLOWATTSAYSOMETHING" and then there's the ever-dangerous "Malware Minefield" that is cheaply run download sites.
Are all of you forgetting that now they have ads in the CAPTCHAs....
Make ad money from bots?
Is it bad that the only thing this entire video reminded me to do is uncheck this?
I don't know about you, but I want advertisers to see what I like and don't like. The point is to show relevant ads so you actually see ads you like, no? Otherwise it'd be useless.
That is always my point. People shouldn't be overly reliant on income from Youtube videos. You still need a job, and you still need to work, because like it or not, the content most of these people put out (Let's Plays, reviews, e.t.c) either don't require much effort or they rarely put in a lot of effort.
who are you to decide what somebody's work is worth, and how the fuck do you know if somebody's lps take "no effort."
Ads are fine if they don't make any sound and don't interrupt my viewing (ie: unskippable ads at the start of a youtube video).
"Hey, turn your volume up and listen to this. I now make $20bn a month from only doing online surveys! You probably don't believe this, but that's why I want you to listen very carefully!" :suicide:
The thing is, even with adblock I still get annoying as hell annotations for other videos and the channel picture and a subscribe button covering my video, not to mention any other annotations the creator might have added. I don't really want yet another thing covering up my videos that I have to click away every damn time, just let me watch my 5 minute video of a stupid cat or whatever.
On the side of YouTube, if you like someone's content and can't donate, then stomaching some ads before watching their videos isn't some massively annoying task. Whenever I know I'm about to watch a bunch of videos in a row, I open a good chunk of them up at the same time and let their ads go on while I go off to get some food or water. Pause the videos when I get back and proceed onwards without anything really detracting from my viewing experience. For all of my time on YouTube, I've seen most YouTubers don't throw ads in the middle of their videos so its not like TV where in the middle of a serial series you have to stomach 4 minutes of ads every 5-10 minutes. Of course, results vary from video to video especially depending on what the viewer is trying to see, but from my experience I've only ever had 1 - 3 ads that were really annoying to see. Now, I'm a bit biased in this topic since I'm a partnered LPer, but I think its really shameful going through threads that focus on content creators of any kind and seeing all the hateful reasoning given by a good chunk of people. If you're blocking ads because you just don't like ads or don't want something malicious happening to computer, that's really understandable, but a good chunk of people are personally and very harshly declaring that content creators shouldn't get money anyways. Some of ya'll are pretty much saying "Good" whenever content creators start getting screwed over. People are literally saying that you shouldn't make money from something that you enjoy and have put a lot of time + effort into already, that you should instead "just get a job," and in my biased opinion, I very much disagree with that. I'll stop adblock when advertisements stop downloading those "WOW YOUR COMPUTER HAS A SPOOKY VIRUS IN IT INVEST $50 IN THIS AND LET US SCAN YOU" things onto my computer.
With the dozens of ad blocking tools and addons I've installed and customized, I haven't seen an ad anywhere in years. And it's fucking nice. Let their content die off, I don't need internet celebrities to make my life entertaining -- they're a small distraction I use when I'm bored because they're there, take them away and I'll do something else. I don't feel I owe them a god damn thing and no one is going to guilt trip me into thinking I do.
I use Adblock and I'm glad I deny money to idiots who sit on their asses and play video games to make a living. Go get a real job, lazy dumbfucks.
You seem like one of those ~edgy~ guys who will cry like a bitch when they get thrown out of their houses from lack of money and can't be "lazy dumbfucks" to entertain you.

i won't stop using adblock until advertisements somehow magically stop being so fucking tasteless
I'll stop adblock when advertisements stop downloading those "WOW YOUR COMPUTER HAS A SPOOKY VIRUS IN IT INVEST $50 IN THIS AND LET US SCAN YOU" things onto my computer.
Those are called "Rogues" and most of the time they don't come from advertisements, just sites that distribute malware. As long as they don't encrypt your files, just go into safe mode with networking, download Malwarebytes and run a scan.
Do you people actually think content creators have the ability to control which ads are shown
I'd rather me and everyone I know were protected from potentially dangerous ads thanks.
I'd rather me and everyone I know were protected from potentially dangerous ads thanks.
There is no such thing as a dangerous ad on YouTube
There is no such thing as a dangerous ad on YouTube
I'm not on about YouTube, I'm on about ads in general. [editline]31st August 2013[/editline] Maybe people should all use AdBlock but white list YouTube... problem solved right?
I use adblock because ads annoy me.
There is no such thing as a dangerous ad on YouTube
There are, actually. Google had to sort out some malicious ads on YT just a few months ago.

Couldn't something like Patreon fix this whole issue?
Does anybody have a downloaded copy of this video I could use for view-whoring on my animation archive channel? (User was permabanned for this post ("registered just to ask for warez" - dai))
As far as YouTube is concerned, I just wish they would adopt a model where you don't have to sit through an ad every time you start a video. I've had times where a video would fail to buffer, for whatever reason, and I refresh the page only to have to sit through the same 30 second ad (which for some reason, has no buffering problems) again, just to watch the video i was already watching. I like how Spotify does it (yeah, I know Spotify ads and Youtube content creator ads are two very different ways of making money off ads) where you get 30 mins of ad-free content for watching one 15 second ad.
Fuck it, I'm re-disabling adblock on YouTube. I don't think watching a 15 second ad at most is that bad [editline]a[/editline] Does me not minding ads anger people that much?
While a tiny bit of my income comes from my semi-decent YouTube channel, I could never tell anyone to turn off Adblock :v: Heck, when I help computer illiterate people with their computers, it's always terribly obvious that all their crap programs and borderline malware stuff comes from clicking the wrong stuff and installing it. I help them install an ad-blocker, and their internet browsing experience and security increases a bunch.
