Well given the entire point of the original Red Dawn was fighting a hopeless war in which a guy got his little brother killed and failed completely in resistance, I'd say it'll have some undertone.
The Soviets won in the end of Red Dawn, but in the end Colonel Bella lost faith in the cause after seeing his men killing children and let the last two living Wolverines escape to die in peace.
Well, the epilogue suggested that the United States successfully repelled the invasion, not sure about the rest of the war, though.
I forgot about this. I can't wait.
Weren't the invading countries the USSR and Cuba in the original though?

It's one of those remakes that change the story.

It's also not 1983 anymore.

This would have made a good ad for Red Dawn:

I take it you haven't read 1984.
Or any book at all.

Pinko scum.
Better dead than red.
Red Dawn sucked
Hey, Boris. What would you do if I told you your pinko Commie mother sucked so much dick, her face looks like an egg?
I can't wait. I just watched Red Dawn the other day. And was thinking if they would ever remake it, it would probably be awesome. Let's hope they do it right.

Ah Lankist, that slaps me on the knee.
You sure do have a good sense of humor for a gay lawyer.
BTW, I would have also accepted any quotes from Liberty Prime or McCarthy.
Bitch I grew up in the cold war. I went through the duck-and-cover drill goddamnit.
Fucking reds are a menace.
I have a strong feeling this film will be beyond awesome.

True, with all the special effects and digitalizing technology, there would be less effort and costs with more advanced and bigger scenes and places.
They had quite a trouble to film many of the scenes (not like there wouldn't be, but rather unique due to the plot of the film)

Hah! In my childhood, we were handed jodi-medicine in school and the drilling of bombshelters into the rock deep under the ground in Helsinki was the top news. We were also teached to build barricades and what course of actions had to be done incase of Soviet Paratroopers landed nearby.

Well, we had assault rifle training in our 3rd class! By an ecology teacher!
...and then we had to run for the bunker 5 blocks away when the Serbs started shelling the city.
Anyways, I hope this movie somewhat turns out good. It has potential.

Well, atleast your country wasn't going to be nuked several times by both NATO and Russia for "ground denial from hostiles" protocol.
If I remember correctly, Lappeenranta was going to receive a whole 2 ICBM's.

I was just kidding, and I know about those duck-and-cover drills too, my parents grew up during that and told me about it, and I saw a video on it as well. Might not be quite as good as first-hand experience, but I can imagine. But back on the topic of the movie; "Better red than dead" :smug:

I respectfully disagree.
This one is better (focusing on the war in general.)

The acting was rather subpar in the first Red Dawn. I have a feeling this one will be much better.
Shooting is in southeastern Michigan, in the Detroit area, BUT it's NOT confirmed to take place in Detroit. It actually looks very well done as far as remakes go, so far, judging from what I've seen of production, they're really putting effort into this.
They actually covered the Detroit police HQ with the giant PLA banners and have blown up several buildings in the city for the film.
The flags and propaganda use the PLA star due to the fact that it symbolizes temporarily occupied America by PLA forces- it's not so much China controlling the area as the PLA 'helping us to get back on our feet'.
Obviously the foe is the Chinese PLA, a twist from the original Soviets. For this film they wanted to modernize it to the current world situation, meaning the only 'Red' power in the world is China, and base alot about the current economic situation and America's lowering reputation while China's gaining more influence and wealth.
Alot of basic stuff is being kept the same, such as the insurgency by American students of the Wolverines football team.
I'm highly excited for this movie. I'm gonna buy a Red Dawn 2010 shirt and a PLA propaganda poster when it comes out. As a Michigander, I'm also excited that they chose to film here. The UP provided alot of the forests and Troy, Detroit, etc provided the suburban and urban areas. God knows we need the money, too.
I made a thread about this quite a while ago.

Where can I get this and how?
Where can I get this and how?
Well currently the store on RedDawn2010.com is down, but I know eBay has some.
As far as the posters go, no where for ow, but they will be selling them later and people have been smuggling and selling the film prop posters onto eBay from time to time.

Awesome, I'd love to buy one of those. Know how much they go for on eBay?

The shirts are pretty reasonable. Dunno about the posters, pretty expensive right now.

Goddamnit, they've already fucked it up.
