Goddamnit, they've already fucked it up.
It's not the Cold War anymore. There's no point in re-making an already fine Cold War movie out of its time.
Goddamnit, they've already fucked it up.
It's basically the same. The only difference is a slight change in location and background story, and that it's the Chinese instead of the Soviets.

Agreed again, Lankist. The original Red Dawn rocked, there's no point in going back, taking the original plot in full and then shitting on it. Might as well start of fresh. Less a remake and more a spiritual successor.

The Soviets are so much more badass than the Chinese though.
The Soviets are so much more badass than the Chinese though.
So true, but the Soviets do not exist now, and are not our major competition in the world anymore.
They are quickly being replaced by our Chinese comrades, and that is why they are a better foe than the Russians.
They were filming it here last year down the road, so they at least filmed it in Detroit. It was pretty cool seeing the trucks and shit though.

Fuckin A, America.
Holy shit. That is sooo bad ass.
Well given the entire point of the original Red Dawn was fighting a hopeless war in which a guy got his little brother killed and failed completely in resistance, I'd say it'll have some undertone.
The Soviets won in the end of Red Dawn, but in the end Colonel Bella lost faith in the cause after seeing his men killing children and let the last two living Wolverines escape to die in peace.
They killed off the Resistance but we still beat back those damn commies.
World in conflict is bad ass too. That needs a movie. Battle in a mall or in front of burger king.
World in conflict is bad ass too. That needs a movie. Battle in a mall or in front of burger king.
Fuck that, right now it needs a sequel.
On topic, Why do I get a feeling this is going to be preaching the exact opposite things the original did?
Promo Poster
That is such a cool star. And the poster's and facade of a motive makes sense due to America's rather poor reputation as attempted "world police" and oil-greedy tycoons. It's only natural China would try to make it look like a liberation.
But I have one question. Cuba aided the Soviets in the original. I would imagine China needs an ally to go along with them as well. The only fit for that role would be North Korea, but from the list of cast members, it seems like they are on their own, which saddens me. But I can dream, right? It would make for a cool movie because then each nation would have a counterpart in the remake.
i sure as hell hope they don't sympathise with the chinese in this one

Go watch The Wackness then come back and say that.
man, i came in here expecting some awesome footage of red alert 2 style shit where soviet paratroopers just land in the middle of new york and open fire on the citizens with badass music in the background. first lay down a terror strike and then afterwards just let everyone know who the boss is.
the chinese aren't very intimidating in comparison. hopefully it'll go well.

i'm fucking excited, now.
Oh god where did this come from.
:D
I hope they have it at the drive in.
Weren't Nicaragua part of the invasion too in the orignal?
From what I hear (read: know) this is being shot in Michigan. Not in Detroit but a couple miles away... right by my house. Fuck yeah.
Try to see if they'll use you as an extra
Weren't Nicaragua part of the invasion too in the orignal?
No, I think it was Cuba.
the chinas star is less cool then the soviets one
I agree, Chinese aren't the same as Soviets
Atleast not as portrayed here, in the original red stars and sickless were pasted onto everything, still having a cheesy yet serious look. Here it looks like random evil. But in 1985 or whatever the original was from the Russians were a real threat. The Chinese aren't a real one now, but from all nations that could invade the US it'll come closest.
Chinese are more evil imo
the chinas star is less cool then the soviets one
Perhaps, but what else would you expect them to use? NK's star would fit the role, but they aren't in this one.
I am of course referring to this symbol in a star:
