For me, the show walks the line between quality comedy, and mediocrity. It's slowly leaning towards mediocrity for me, however. Buuuut it's something to do with the family if all else fails.
I used to like this show, but not so much anymore. It still has its moments, though.
I never liked this show, since it was never funny.
Standard sitcom shit that we've already seen a million times.
Still love the show.

Then again I like the new two and a half men more than the old so eh, what do I know.
I started watching the series again this season (I stopped watching at season 4-ish), and I felt like they were finally regaining a bit in terms of quality, but then there are episodes like today that have so much potential, yet nothing happens. I don't like this show all that much anymore.
Also, the laugh track is annoying and overexaggerated.
I'll never argue something hasn't been done before (because how the hell would I know) but you can't say scenes like this one aren't well-written and funny:

i just dont find this very funny
what's the joke? the lame star trek reference? the fact that they "sped up" to make it look like he was time traveling? when they all stopped and said "that was fun"?
it was a kinda clever idea but it just wasn't very funny
This show sucks shit and I have no respect for anyone who genuinely enjoys it.
Decent for when I have nothing else to watch. Funny more times than it's not for me.
I am an easily entertained person though. Give me a plastic cup and I will play with it. Seriously.
Perhaps I am just simple minded enough to like the humor sometimes...

thanks i think i like it here
it's ok but it makes me cringe at times
it has it's good moments
I used to really like it until I started noticing the laugh tracks after nearly every sentence.
It's a decent show and I don't understand the argument that it is "dissing the geek community".
Some people need to lighten up.

They say it's dissing it because they sort of force you to relate to Penny, the one who doesn't understand all the science.
I found some angry rant about it from some social justice blog where they compared the show to Community (both have a very socially abnormal character but they're used differently). If I can find it, I'll link it here.

right back at ya buddy
The main thing that bugs me is the blatant abuse of laugh tracks.
While watching it I often find myself thinking "Why was there a laugh track there? That line wasn't funny at all".

It's just like any other sitcom, I don't see what's so different about TBBT.

With other sitcoms they play it whenever someone makes a joke.
In this show they play it whenever a nerd is a nerd.

I'm pretty sure you just hit the nail on the head with what's wrong with the laugh track in this show. It really is bad.

shut up 2010 me
This show isn't too bad if it's on in the background but I wouldn't sit down and watch it
its not dissing the geek community or whatever, but it seems to only appeal to people who kinda understand what the references relate to, but don't actually understand any of the references

That's because all of the jokes pretty much stack into one seriously long recurring joke, that is that the characters are nerds.
You don't need to understand the references, you're just supposed to laugh at how nerdy they are.
I watched it for about 2 seasons. During the third I become allergic to it. Nerd stuff isn't that funny and most nerds don't talk about stuff in the way like they do in TBBT.
What pains me is Adam from Mythbusters like it.

Of course most don't, but who's going to watch a show about people doing stuff everyone else does a well? The show is about stereotyping nerds in a funny way..
I saw an episode of this on a plane and hated it. It had all the cheesiness and terrible acting of a regular sitcom coupled with tired nerd stereotypes which got old decades ago.

Well, you make a solid point, but I must point out that- in semantics only- you're wrong.
It's not a laugh track as it's an actual live audience. Just one from an entirely different take to the one that's shown.

The most interesting stuff about the show is the stuff written on the whiteboard in the apartment. It's progress of theories or excerpts of current articles in theoretical physics.
