I had the classic TV show lucid dream once, where something really really horrible is going to happen and the shit's about to hit the fan, and you go "...Wait a minute. This isn't really happening, is it?" and then you go about random dreamland city righting the wrongs and being a general superhero to the little imagination residents of dreamville.
Seriously, I was about to be killed and eaten by a giant and frightening wolf spider, when all of a sudden I noticed that it had only six legs. Then I pulled a giant hammer out of nowhere and smashed it to shit. I felt so accomplished, but it didn't really help my fear of spiders any.
Depends. While that dream situation is making your brain think it's receiving pain signals, technically it wasn't receiving pain at all and you're completely fine. But I've had stuff hurt me that shouldn't have and stuff that clearly should have hurt me that didn't. It seems to be arbitrary.
Well, the only things that cause pain to me are things that would clearly have done so if real life physics applied, and I don't recall a situation where harmless things have hurt me.
Like one time in a lucid dream I had the brilliant idea to fly headfirst into a mountain (after doing the same to a tree... the tree broke though.) to see if I could resist having the shock of doing so waking me up. I stayed asleep, but it hurt like.... flying headfirst into a mountain. Although pain I feel doesn't last that long, fortunately. Like maybe ten seconds at worst.
But so far there's been no longterm effects that I've noticed otherwise.
And on a completely unrelated note: being able to taste stuff in dreams rocks when a dream places you right outside a candy shop.

Well, people do experience things differently. If it works out for you, then that's great.
Do you need to be on your back to have a lucid dream?
Does it have to be nighttime to have a lucid dream?
How do I overcome itches, shuffles, swallows and blinks?
If I walk in to a building I haven't been inside in real life, what happens?
[editline]11:12AM[/editline]
Anybody?
I posted this in the last thread, might as well post it here.
I tried to get into a lucid state.
I started seeing the imagery and sounds of a cafeteria or something using the WILD method.
One of the images was some girl I couldn't make up, and I was interested who that was.
I focused on that one and then suddenly, I woke up.
SON OF A BITCH :argh:
I can't remember my dreams at all. Ever. Not for a few years, now, anyways.
Even when I wake up and instantly go to write it all down. :\
I should also mention before this dream, I was borderline lucid when suddenly some fucking freaky fucking face pops up out of nowhere the likes of which I can only describe as a decomposing doll with flesh staring at you.
I paniced and ended up waking up back to normal.
I once had a strange dream that was rediculously realistic. Or... Well... Sort of...
I was a vampire fighting crusaders with a big axe ._.
But, it still felt sort of "real"...
I wonder what Lucid-Sex is like :q:
If anyone is wondering, I come from Dream Views. I highly recommend people signing up there and getting to learn Lucid Dreaming more.
There is no limit to what you can do in your dreams. Ok well that's a lie...the only limit is your imagination.
@Geogzm: Most people tend to wake up when having sex while being lucid. They become over-excited and start to fade out of their dream. Some people say that you shouldn't really focus on the sex. Others are just lucky and can do it with no problem...
Edit: If you are trying to become Lucid, don't expect it to happen in the first couple of nights. It may take a month for you to have your first Lucid Dream. Mine took about 2 weeks after signing up on DV and learning about Lucid Dreaming. I had my CD player set to play a song in the middle of the night while I was asleep. After awhile I finally became lucid for a split second, woke up, then turned off my radio.
Zinayzen, you may want to put something in your post about Dream Guides.
Dream Guides are considered "special" Dream Characters. Dream Guides are supposed to guide you through your dream, hence the name Dream Guide. It is said that everyone has a Dream Guide. Some people have the same reoccuring Dream Guide in their dreams, while others have different Dream Guides or even make their own Dream Guide. Dream Guides usually poses some kind of power that normal Dream Characters wouldn't have. Some people consider Dream Guides to be some sort of Spirit Guide, or some recreation of your Subconcious in some kind of form (human, animal, alien, etc.).
How do I find my Dream Guide?
There are a number of ways to find your Dream Guide. Summoning your Dream Guide is probably one of the most common ways to do it. But beginners in Lucid Dreaming may have some difficulty summoning things in their dreams. One way you can try to summon your Dream Guide is by find a closed door and telling yourself that behind this door will be your Dream Guide. One thing about dreaming is that if you want something to happen, you have to expect it to happen and believe that it will happen. If you can do that, then open the door and your Dream Guide may be there. Another way is to tell a Dream Character to go fetch your Dream Guide for you.
Hope that helps.
Great thread, damn now i'm so sure that i will ask my biggest fears.
There's one thing that I can't figure out, do I keep my eyes open or closed? Is it better to have lights on or off? Or is it just preference?

Hmm.
Do you HAVE to wait half an hour to become paralyzed?
Last night I had a dream where my old school was actually a boarding school, with dormitories and stuff, and some jerk threw a shuttlecock through the window where me and my friends were in. And we'd forgotten our bags.
I think Emma Watson was there as well, I'm not really sure.
Hmm.

Depends on the person really. Some people may take an hour, while others take 20 minutes.
One exercise you can try is laying on your back, and taking small deep breaths while on every breath you start counting. When you reach 100 or 200, you then start counting backwards. It may help you clear your mind and make it not so over-active when trying to sleep. Count in your head though.

I see. This is harder than I thought :raise:
I had a dream when i was four years old... i was going to the dentist and everything was toony lookin, and my mom left the room with me and the dentist and he pilled out of ouf those power drills with the largest drilling attachment and said "come over here...." and then i ran around the room, and on the ceiling, and then my mom shook me awake and said "hey, hey, whats the matter?'
She said i was screaming and crying in my sleep.
I once had a dream that spork-juct was on my friends list
What do you mean? When you're trying to lucid dream? Or what?
For lucid dreaming it's well, a dream, so I know I have to be sleeping. I was referring more to the Sleep Paralysis part, where you're paralyzed and start to trip out.
I've asked a lot of questions, haven't I?
1000th post.
So I almost had it last night. Going to try again in 12 hours I guess.

Same. I'm trying tonight again. Uploading a visual representation of what my dream looked like from my perspective.

oww fuck my head
I just spent 40 minutes lying down trying this and I was still as a rock all the way through, I got a steam message and realized "this isn't going to work it's 3 o clock I'm not even tired" so I got up. I can see it working when tired though, because I feel fucking weird.
My chant went "I will fall asleep. When I am asleep, I will dream. When I dream, I will be in control. When I am in control, I am lucid. When I am lucid, I am asleep..." etc etc.

No, but you should probably be in a sleeping position.
No, you can do it with naps.
For the most part, just fix them and go back. This isn't like a pain withstanding contest, you can make yourself comfortable. Blinking shouldn't matter, though, since your eyes probably shouldn't be open.
Your brain fills in the interior. Even if you've been in it before, it's not likely you see it in perfect detail anyway.

Isn't sleep paralysis fun? You had it mild.
Also, being incredibly fucking exhausted is useful.
Speaking of which, I have class in 20 minutes and I had five hours of sleep last night. When I get back, I'll take a nap and if I do end up lucid I'll post a general FAQ thing about what happens while it's still fresh in my head.
Nothing about power naps?
Nothing about power naps?
No point. You don't hit REM sleep until at least 90 minutes. Power naps won't even get close. Usually you'll only hit one REM cycle while taking a nap anyway, but power naps don't come close to 90 minutes (unless I'm thinking of something else).
This is a great megathread. Good job.
This is a great megathread. Good job.
No mods have gotten pissed at me for calling it a megathread, so I feel as though I've done my job correctly.
And there's been less new threads about sleep and dreams, so that's good too.
I have never.. EVER.. in my entire life had a dream in which i dident die painfully at some point :ohdear:
