I've been trying to improve my dream recall but I've had no improvement over a month. I do the "when I wake up I will remember my dreams" chant but I get no improvement. Any advice?
Always do journals on paper. Always.
What does this mean, In my dreams I can not open doors for about 30 seconds. I walk up to the door, Grab the handle, Drop to my knees and fail at opening it for a long time.
Always do journals on paper. Always.
Problem is that I can't remember my dreams at all, even like a second after I've woken up I can't remember them. Having a journal beside me is useless.
Always do journals on paper. Always.
So is doing a journal in the iPhone notes app a bad idea?
Does anyone know if smoking a small amount of weed helps you in any way with sleeping/dreaming? Also what if I got really high, fell asleep, and somehow had a lucid dream, would I be high in the lucid dream? :v: [editline]12:37AM[/editline] Not to sound like some stoner dumbfuck, but I just know that even a small amount of marijuana can help you relax/sleep and...dream easier?
I would love to chat with my subconcious, it could probably help me answer a lot of my questions about who I am, I would like to know what my biggest fear is though, the OP has brought into question if heights is just a visible cover-up. And what does it mean when I keep seeing people I know in my dreams? And how relevant is what event is going on? I distinctly remember 2 marriages that I've "witnessed". Other then that, there's been an uncountable number of random apperances.
Since my previous post in this thread I've had about 4 lucid dreams, and it is one of the weirdest experiences I think I've had. I don't really use any of the techniques either, it just seems that I notice things at random in my dreams that make me conscious. The first was actually me noticing that the lay-out in my house was not correct, having bought new furniture. I laughed that morning when I woke up realizing that this was how I had become conscious. The dream itself didn't consist of much, I became too excited, and woke-up. To be expected on my first lucid dream I suppose. The second was weird and didn't last long at all. I was near an island and happened to be breathing underwater, knowing that in reality I couldn't breathe underwater, I became conscious. I floated in the water a few seconds, realizing that I was dreaming, I must have become too excited again because I woke up pretty quickly after that. The third time consisted of me flipping a light-switch, which did not turn on. I then realized I was dreaming, and found myself in front of a mirror. The weird thing about this, however, is that instead of being scared by having some alternate form of myself being reflected in the mirror I completely ignored it and tried transporting myself to a field not far from my house. I started waking up in the middle of me transporting myself which resulted in half my vision being taken over by images of the field I was going to, and the other half being the inside of my bed-room. Has anyone had a similar experience upon waking up? The 4th I don't quite remember so well, I remember throwing fireballs at people and crashing a spaceship into some space-station like object. I later face/palmed when I woke up. Sadly, I have not had a lucid dream in a while now, hopefully I can expect one tonight, I've read through the thread again and the knowledge of dreaming has once again filled my head... Best of luck to anyone else, I encourage anyone who is thinking about trying to do so, I've not had a problem with mirrors or SP once.
Haha so I've been doing a dream journal on my phone (too lazy to find a pen and paper over this summer), and I read over the dream that I recorded last night. I remember writing something down before I went back to sleep, but I didn't remember what it was. I check my phone just now (about to head to bed tonight) and saw:
road had a bunxh of writing referencing people i diidnt know
I need to be more descriptive when writing things down :(
Always do journals on paper. Always.
Can't I do it on my laptop or something?
Let me just say this now so you guys know where I'm coming from. I'm a visual/tactile learner. I remember things I write down far better than things I don't. This gives me an advantage with journals, but it doesn't mean it's impossible for people that don't learn like that. The reason you should write it down is because it's much easier to write than type, requires less brain power, you can do it while laying in bed, and you can scribble drawings on it, which is a good way to establish dream signs (often symbols). You can do it however you want, but paper will give you optimal results. [editline]06:46AM[/editline] Paper helps me because often i'll write a sentence and upon reading it later on have a complete flashback to the dream. that's not always the case for most people, so you're welcome to experiment and do it however you want. Paper is ideal, though.
Yeah, after reading this/seeing my results from last night, I'm gonna hunt down some paper and use that
Also, you can keep them in small binders. I use the ones that look like this: Honestly, they fill up faster than you think. I have a small box full of them and I still regularly look through them.
I heard a theory somewhere, that said that when you die slowly, the brain produces a chemical that is produced when you are in the highest point of dreaming. The point of the theory is basically the idea that when you're dreaming, your brain is working much faster, which makes things seem slower; (See Inception, 5 mins = 1 hour thing) and it's saying that when you die, you basically go to a type of "heaven" (your dream world) that seems to last for months. I have this idea, that if somehow, scientists could activate this chemical, and have it running for a few months, feeding you from a tube to keep you alive, you could possibly (from your perspective) prolong your life to twice as long as you would have lived originally. Does this make sense to anyone else?

Does this make sense to anyone else?
There are five chemicals produced when you sleep, and each activate at a certain time in the sleep cycle (which is why you have levels of sleep). The one during REM is Acetylcholine, and dreams feel long because the release of AChE speeds up thought processes, most specifically memory and spatial mapping. Dreams can be prolonged (by methods mentioned somewhere in this thread), and when they are you basically tell your brain to go back to REM, which results in an even larger release in AChE. This is counterbalanced later on, so usually extending a dream results in fewer sections of REM after the extended one. To answer your question, no. I thought about that myself, but the problem with doing things like that is you need the other chemicals released during sleep as well, not just AChE. (For example: Seratonin, GABA, and Adrenaline). If you pumped AChE into your body constantly, you would do several things. One, you'd lose all the feeling in your body. Two, your limbs would deteriorate. Three, you would die. Not to mention, of course, the chemicals you need to exist when you're alive as well. I don't remember what those were called, sorry. But there are a LOT of them. (I took a course called The Neurobiology of Dreams and Cognition, so I know my stuff.) [editline]08:10AM[/editline] I have a graph of sleep cycles with relative neurotransmitters, but it's downstairs in the garage and i don't want to go get it. :<
I'm afraid to keep a dream journal because what if I have a sex dream and my mom finds it or something :ohdear:
I'm afraid to keep a dream journal because what if I have a sex dream and my mom finds it or something :ohdear:
yeah god forbid your mom thinks you think about sex it's like you're a teenager or something you heathen
Also I can never WILD into dream because when I get to the almost asleep part I realize it and then excite myself back awake and by the time this happens 2-3 times I get so damn uncomfortable that my half asleep self says "Fuck it, I'm rolling over". Then I wake up remember bits and pieces of my dream. [editline]01:15AM[/editline]
yeah god forbid your mom thinks you think about sex it's like you're a teenager or something you heathen
That wouldn't make it any less awkward :v:

I usually go through this weird OCD ritual where I move into about four different sleeping positions before I settle in. And yeah, I know it's awkward. Leave them somewhere she won't actually find them. Like I said, get a composition notebook and keep it in the space between your mattress and bedframe or something. Just remember to take it out before you fall asleep.
Here's how to shared lucid dreaming Basically you just need to be well into lucid dreaming, and have a desire intent on having your dreams shared, When the imagery starts, make appropriate affirmations or whatever intent to ensure the shared lucid dreaming will work. Then when you are in the dream, call out your friend, (i suggest sleeping like sleep over something), and make a door for him and make sure he understands he is in a dream. create whatever his interests is and they can get into your lucid dreaming through that door. Sorry The way i explain is bad, but there are websites that tell you how to do it better than me.

First of all, this is entirely impossible because lucid dreaming doesn't take you outside of your head, it just shoves you deeper into your own. You can't just jump into someone else's dream, that doesn't work. All you can do is have a subconscious manifestation of that person, and do with it what you would have done with your friend. That's all that it will be, nothing more. If your friend says he remembers it, that's probably the equivalent of a flashbulb memory or something of the kind. (Essentially, he doesn't remember it happening but if you say it did with enough force and belief he'll think it happened to him as well.) tl;dr there is no such thing as a shared dream or shared dreamspace
But it was in a movie so it must be real :downs:
i was worried that when inception came out everyone would think dreams worked like that unfortunately, i was right Sleep time. Aiming for LD, but not getting my hopes up.
So I'm kinda glad I stopped being lazy and actually started recording my dreams, because now I'm remembering 2 a night :D last night I probably had the best dream EVER, the only bad part is I didn't notice I was dreaming.
I think I had a dream of some sort last night, but I remember fragments only. First fragment involved some sort of office building, and the other fragment involved me fending off tiny bee-things that were hovering just outside the bathroom door. The thing about the second fragment was that the bathroom was the one at my Mum's house, rather than my Dad's house where I am now. (Mum and my little sister are on holiday in Scotland at the moment)
I had a dream last night. I remember that something big was happening, and I had to do something or other. I barely remember it. But I remember being at the height of the dream where like a climax of some sort was happening. And then my phone rang and woke me up. At 2 in the morning. With a wrong number. I was like FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF
I woke up at 8:30 and went to bed at a quarter to 3. I feel fine, but I'm worried that I feel fine.
-moved to next page-
I've been writing down my dreams for the past week and I can already remember them so much easier.
does anyone know what it means when you try to run in your dream but you seem to be going in slow motion, and sometimes just falling down and not being able to run at all?
