There's quite a lot of videos on YouTube of home made gauss guns.
For the uninformed, 25mm~= 1 inch
Precisely, 25.4mm = 1 inch. By definition - the US system is defined, legally, relative to the SI units.
It's a 20mm not because of the caliber, but because it costs $20 a bullet. :v:
I think I'll stick with my 25mm, only costs $0.25 per shot...
A dumb? Really? Have you seen how much those 20mm cartridges cost?
If you had, like, a really, really small dick.
Then I guess that gun is perfect for you!
Let's not forget the old reliable slam-bang AKA 4 winds.

One pipe just big enough for a 12-gauge shell (or 16 or 20 or other gauges), one pipe just big enough for the smaller pipe to slide in, a pipe cap for one end of the bigger pipe and a nail drilled through the exact center of that cap. Whole things costs ~7$ to make.
To fire place a shell in the small pipe. Put the bigger pipe around the end with the shotgun shell. Move the two together rapidly, the nail should puncture the primer, BOOM, if you still have hands pick out the spend shell, place another one in, rinse, repeat.
Used to be a preferred weapon of choice when guerrillas had to whack people. It's smoothbore with shot so there is no forensic trace that you can leave. If you get caught carrying it it just looks like 2 lengths of pipe, keep it in a toolbox and no one can suspect anything. Once the weapon is used you can take it down to 4 parts (big pipe, small pipe, cap and spent shell) and dispose of the parts in random locations (hence the name 4 winds).
One version was even sold as a regular firearm in the US at one point.

Still don't think it can work?
.50 caliber is only around 12.7mm, a lot smaller than the 20mm there.
i have a 20mm i just decided to use a 50 cal one instead, holds marbles and bottle rockets better

I want to see it in action.
Now when would you ever need that?
anti-tank, that bullet would go a hummer or apc, maybe even some small tanks...or big ones......im not sure

There's some, some of them have been posted here already though.
I'm less concerned about tutorials and more concerned about firing videos. That would be cool.
The can can't explode because there is no Air in the can.
Yeah well, excuse me if I don't feel safe enough to go test your theory
Yeah well, excuse me if I don't feel safe enough to go test your theory
How do propane torches keep from exploding then I wonder? They're not any different from a can of spray, they just have a nozzle to direct the flame in a tighter point.
I see
Still not going to go find out
I see
Still not going to go find out
That's smart, just saying your fears are unnecessary. The only way a spray can would actually explode is if it was violently ruptured in such a way that all the gas is exposed to an open flame at the same time.
Even if you punctured the side of the can and lit the gas as it leaked out, it would just slowly leak out and burn outside of the can until the can was empty.
Makes sense
From what I learned as a kid, my buddy said to me
"Don't hold the flame too long, or it will get inside the can and explode"
Didn't really want to find out if he was right or wrong
An experiment you could try without danger is lighting a candle, then placing a clear plastic cup with a single tiny hole roughly the size of a sewing pin poked into it (Representing the tiny nozzle of a spray can). The candle's flame should extinguish itself despite the hole because it can't suck in enough oxygen though that hole to keep itself lit.
You know what, I'm bored I'm going to do that
Nail guns are highly ineffective at injuring personnel.
I dunno if I had a 4" nail sticking through my hand I'd be pretty fucking injured

It's like the Extended Stabber 2.0!
I don't get it, are those bottles the projectiles/ammo? Or are they completely separate?

I'm going to assume one's for drinking, one's for chucking, one's for shooting and the other two are actual projectiles.
Who's heard of the Anzio (a 20mm AM rifle)? This is it compared to a .50 cal, the barrel alone is damn near larger than the whole 50. Oh, and the damn thing has 1600 grains each shell. .50BMG has around 300.
[img_thumb]http://tractioncontrol.well-regulatedmilitia.org/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/20mmwith50a-1.jpg[/img_thumb]
Oh, and shell comparison, 20mm on the right obviously, 50 cal just to the left of that, .223 (more or less equal to 5.56 in size, 5.56 is what the M-16 shoots) on the far left.

20mm will not even scrape the paint on a modern battle tank or an apc.
Now that's just stupid.
