Another really awful thing one of my musician friends said to me is "Yeah, you play piano...but you play classical piano...." As if it makes me any less a musician than them.
Not a lot of people have respect for the instrument anymore
I like me some ragtime pianny, but classical piano is what I'm trained in. Poorly maybe, but trained no less. A lot of well known hip hop producers and electronic musicians start out with classical training.
If you're classically trained it's much easier to get into another style of playing, and generally makes you much more flexible as a performer
someone told me nickelback sucks, i punched him in the face with a five finger deathpunch!
uuuuuuuuuuuuuh don't you now a five finger death punch is done to the chest or are you STUPID or something [editline]7th March 2011[/editline]
If you're classically trained it's much easier to get into another style of playing, and generally makes you much more flexible as a performer
This isn't true at all When you're classically trained you're normally not trained in improvisation at all
I started the first thread on my old account
This isn't true at all When you're classically trained you're normally not trained in improvisation at all
However once you've grasped traditional chord structures etc. you don't need to focus on getting those right as much, opening up opportunities for going nuts
However once you've grasped traditional chord structures etc. you don't need to focus on getting those right as much, opening up opportunities for going nuts
I consider basic theory like that general training, not classical I guess if you consider any theory at all to be classical training that is true
Hearing anyone playing "Pon de Floor" makes me want to violate them and their goat with my fist.
that's not something someone said about music [editline]7th March 2011[/editline] unless you're saying "Hearing anyone playing "Pon de Floor" makes me want to violate them and their goat with my fist." is the worst thing you've ever heard someone say about music because yeah, that's pretty lame
I once had the misfortune of hearing someone say "I <3 music". Left me in the fetal position for weeks.
If you're classically trained it's much easier to get into another style of playing
trust me no it's not i studied piano with a hardcore teacher for years and she'd hit my little kiddie wink hands with a ruler if i hit a note not considered proper i can't fucking play jazz on piano because of it, yet i do absolutely fine on guitar, my mind is fucked mate
Worst thing ever said? "Justin Beiber is a good musician"
Hearing anyone playing "Pon de Floor" makes me want to violate them and their goat with my fist.
Please tell me what's wrong with the song. [editline]8th March 2011[/editline]
I like me some ragtime pianny, but classical piano is what I'm trained in. Poorly maybe, but trained no less.
Worst thing ever said? "Justin Beiber is a good musician"
Because we haven't heard that a million times before..
Because we haven't heard that a million times before..
It's the worst thing I've heard, therefore I post it. Is that not what the entire thread is about?
"jazz sucks"
none of my friends say dumb things about music, :( or :) ?
none of my friends say dumb things about music, :( or :) ?
no but it seems you say dumb things.
God damnit. This sub forum was better before it became mainstream :colbert:
God damnit. This sub forum was better before it became mainstream :colbert:
I see what you did there.
"Lil Wayne is better than 2Pac" I punched him in the face for that.
Why, he's right, Lil Wayne IS better than 2pac
God damnit. This sub forum was better before it became mainstream :colbert:
zing or agree agree
zing or agree agree
Zigree.
On Marvin Gaye: 'sorry i cant stand Old artists, i only listen to new stuff' :argh:
Too many fucking opinions, goddamnit!
There's not much to talk about any more since by the end of the last thread, we all started thinking subjectively and stopped posting opinions like "Some guy said X is better than Y, he's a dick." which made up most of the earlier content. [editline]derped that up[/editline] I think someone probably posted the same thing on the last thread, nevermind.
God damnit. This sub forum was better before it became mainstream :colbert:
This is why we love you, bravehat :buddy:
If you're classically trained it's much easier to get into another style of playing, and generally makes you much more flexible as a performer
Every classical performer I've met foams at the mouth when I mention playing something non classical.
My dad flat out refuses to listen to John Cage. I've played him all of John Cage's mellower stuff and he still insists John Cage wasn't a really musician :smith: [editline]8th March 2011[/editline]
Every classical performer I've met foams at the mouth when I mention playing something non classical.
My cousin is a professional violinist who's played with famous orchestras, and yet she listens to The Decembrists, Radiohead, etc.
