Too...soft, bland, I'm not really sure what word I'm looking for but it doesn't really appeal to me.
I think the description you're looking for is "too light-hearted for me". Perfectly understandable, but it is a flaw in your interpretation :smug:

Ska is a pretty good example of upbeat music I like (although the lyrics tend to be rather depressing...I blame Streetlight Manifesto).

I've heard it all before :v: I do like a bit of Ska though. :iia:
I think the description you're looking for is "too light-hearted for me". It's more that their attempts to be light and stuff to become more popular ruins their sound.

If you start with their first album, they are VERY 60s upbeat sounding... and then go onto their final album. It is a lot more depressing and rugged sounding.
Yeah they have, I'm not arguing that. But I think they've still tried to keep a mainstream audience throughout their entire career
Yeah they have, I'm not arguing that. But I think they've still tried to keep a mainstream audience throughout their entire career
Not exactly like artists can change to avant garde midway through selling millions of records is it? :smugdog: [editline]31st March 2011[/editline] Except maybe for Radiohead.
I'd love to see that though
Mainstream is best stream if you want to make a living.
I'd love to see that though
Album sold 30 Million copies. [editline]31st March 2011[/editline] I don't like to force people to like them, I just want people to accept their flaw of disliking light-hearted music. :smug:
I like some of their songs too, but using them as some kind of major reference point for comparing all or most other music to is really just sad.
So you're criticizing them (the people mentioned earlier) calling The Beatles gay compared to Disturbed by basically implying that Disturbed is gay slash inferior to whatever super extreme hardcore heavy metal you listen to?
"Rap is always about women, cars, and money." Not so much "oh no, they're criticizing a genre I like!" as much as that it's just making a really generalizing statement. Come on, man, you don't have to dig very deep into the genre at all to be able to easily find plenty proving otherwise.
A friend of mine chaueffer's at the hotel Disturbed and Korn stayed at on their most recent tour. He said the guys from Korn were awesome and great to meet and drive around; they were bored and asked him to take them to Walmart. After 40 minutes of sitting in the car, the guys from Korn run out of Walmart with a bunch of light sabers and Nerf guns battling in the parking lot. Oh, and they bought him Taco Bell. The guys from Disturbed were cunts. They would complain about every single issue at the hotel and break/steal random shit. At one point my friend drove them to a liquor shop. A few minutes later David from Disturbed runs back into the car laughing his ass off; he stole a soap dispenser and the faucet knobs from the bathroom.
Holy shit. Did he join in the Nerf and lightsaber battle?
Holy shit. Did he join in the Nerf and lightsaber battle?
No, he can't leave the car if he's chauferring.
So you're criticizing them (the people mentioned earlier) calling The Beatles gay compared to Disturbed by basically implying that Disturbed is gay slash inferior to whatever super extreme hardcore heavy metal you listen to?
No, I'm basing it on talent, not "OMG HEVEE METLL" Musical virtuosity is a definable, tangible entity which is rather lacking in a band like Disturbed, compared to a band like Symphony X or Dream Theater. To call something shit compared to a band that doesn't have all that much talent themselves, is just to vocalize how foolish you really are.
umm it actually kind of is i mean there's a few exceptions but really 4 out of 5 rap songs will be about that
nah most rap songs will actually be about boasting one's rap ability because most rappers are people who don't have women, cars, or money
umm it actually kind of is i mean there's a few exceptions but really 4 out of 5 rap songs will be about that
Mainstream rap you mean? Yeah mainstream rap is mostly bollox that ruins the hip hop culture.
i like to think of rap and hip-hop as separate [editline]1st April 2011[/editline] also, on topic with thread "Metallica could never shred like kurt cobain" fucking youtube comments
A long time ago I became a fan of the Silver Jews on facebook and 2 friends became a fan because "XD JEWS SO RANDUM"
i like to think of rap and hip-hop as separate
well rapping is what you do in hip-hop
well rapping is what you do in hip-hop
Instrumental hip hop? No rapping, simply the feel of the culture.
Instrumental hip hop? No rapping, simply the feel of the culture.
well uh there's rapping in Endtroducing. rapping is just one of the key pillars of hip-hop
instrumental spoken word is the best genre
well uh there's rapping in Endtroducing. rapping is just one of the key pillars of hip-hop
Endtroducing isn't your ordinary hip hop album, I personally think the way it is structured gives it the hip hop vibe. It is more complex than just rapping about sex and money.
well most hip-hop isn't really about sex and money lol
Most rap is generally about insulting something in different ways to make themselves look good. I prefer the more thought-provoking rap.
well rapping is what you do in hip-hop
yup i like to think of rap as a genre separate from hip-hop though rap tends to be much more crude/blunt/vain than hip-hop not saying all rap is bad, take ill bill for instance
you can think of things however you want but rap is just another name for hip-hop, any distinction is purely one you made
