I'm sure it's because they are tired though :ninja:

Ah.
Show em it when they're awake. They'll love it... probably. :D
Doubt it :v:
That sucks. :/
kill them, wear their skin
I've only been practicing for a few weeks, so it's not really surprising.
They're real impatient beings too, and not particularly interested in music.

Woah. This is awesome. Thanks :D
I've seen quite a lot of people write that orchestral music (whether it be film, classical, or anything in between) is unimaginative and generic.
I just have no idea how someone can think this. Even if you don't personally care for orchestral works, how can you say that they are unimaginative and generic?
*Listening to radio/video*
Retarded kid: what is that?
Me: System of a down, man
Retarded kid: Linkin Park is so much better hhehehuheu
If they all sound the same I can say that they're generic. I don't know how many movies have a unmemorable generic orchestral soundtrack with that choir singing latin along with it, but it's a lot. Hans Zimmer is cool though. I remember on the special features for inception he told the players to sound like a synth. Plus he brought Johnny Marr along too. See he tries to do something different and the soundtrack became just as memorable as the story or effects.
"Rap is too music!"
When someone says "Rap isn't music" I know that we can never have any sort of meaningful relationship ever.

Actually upon further introspection there are great orchestral movie soundtracks that are very memorable due to having a great melody or rhythm. There are a lot of orchestral movie soundtracks that sound generic as hell and they could have been written with no imagination at all, but then again a lot of music is like that.
derp
oh no
someone has an opinion that differs to mine
gasp
depends what he means by progressive music
if he means sonic youth then yeah there's no skill required, only imagination
if it's specifically "progressive rock" then it's the exact other way around, skill needed and no imagination required
Being a generalising ignorant troll is fun!

You're new here.
That's what this thread is about
You couldn't be more wrong.
A good example would be something along the lines of "I like [x] band, therefore I am better than you" or "I don't want to listen to [x] album because it's too popular"
Not "Your opinion is different to mine"
Also thisispain you don't like prog, we get it

It's not just Hans Zimmer who can create memorable tracks, though. If you just want to discuss film music, Howard Shore (especially Howard Shore), John Williams, Clint Mansell, John Powell, Ennio Morricone, Alexandre Desplat, Nicholas Hooper, Attacus Ross, Maurice Jarre, James Horner, James Newton Howard, Thomas Newman, Danny Elfman, and Henry Gregson-Williams, among many others, have created amazing music. If you're hearing a lot of generic choir action music then you're watching bad movies.
If you're talking about orchestra music as a whole, a Beethoven symphony sounds vastly different from a Brahms symphony, a Rachmaninoff piano concerto sounds vastly different from a Gershwin piano concerto, and contemporary composers have used many stylistic effects uncommon to the symphony orchestra to produce new, unique sounds.
The only real way for orchestra music to sound generic is if it's written by an inexperienced or incompetent composer, and these plague every field of music - not just film and concert music.

True like I said in my edit thingy. You're obviously more experienced in it so okay.

King Crimson 1973-1984
Very humble band.

prog i like:
Rush, King Crimson, Steven Wilson, Pink Floyd, post-rock (debatable if it's prog or not but people usually include it)
so no, i don't judge it based on that
but what people think about when they say prog, that's the stuff i don't like
plus psychedelic rock is totally bitchin
[editline]28th April 2011[/editline]
people who like listening to prog a lot think i'm somehow attacking them when i attack prog
i know you guys identify with prog but learn not to be so serious about it
you can attack bjork or radiohead all day, i welcome it
Thisispain, listen to Animals while thinking of George Orwell's Animal Farm story in mind.
Then you'll get it.

no i listened to it today on my LP player (:smug:) and i still don't like it
i don't know why but it just doesn't speak to me because i like, don't really care at all about what he's saying
dark side of the moon speaks to me because what they talk about: death, time, insanity those are things i actually care about
same thing with the wall

I'm not much of a wall person. The themes in Dark Side of the Moon aren't what I connected with. It was simply the expressive quality while being simplistic that caught me.
I still prefer Animals and Meddle. Musically superior and moving.
Wish You Were Here too.
