Yeah, it sort of gets the same rap as Inception. I fucking hate when somebody says "Oh man that movie was SOO confusing!! It made no sense!!", ok well, actually if you were watching it it made complete sense and was pretty much entirely unconfusing
There are some things in homestuck that require further thinking to see/realize, but to understand the story and enjoy it and go along with it you really just need only to actually read the comic.

It isn't so much paying attention as it is just investing yourself in the story on the most basic level. You have to read it, and then you'll understand it.
And yet people still go "oh it's so confusing" and say "what is going on" because they forgot that they weren't actually reading the story and were instead just looking at the pictures and drawing fanart and gleaning character personalities from tumblr fan comics
shit like that's why I enjoyed the ancestors so much, because unlike with the original trolls the people being made fun of actually recognized it this time around. Like "hey, this character is exactly like me! Wait, Hussie himself is insulting this character that is just like me? And other, previously established characters are making fun of their traits that I identify with? I'm being made fun of here!"
and I'm just like "you were ALWAYS being made fun of with the original set of trolls, it's just that hussie was being subtle about it the first time around"
