Speaking of virtual economies, I really love how for some weird as fuck reason in the (original!) Finnish Habbo these plastic retro chairs were the unit of currency until they introduced those tradeable coins and stuff.
Even more hilarious is how the community just essentially changed it so that the five-credit chair was replaced with the basic one-credit bronze coin. With skill and a bit of luck you could've bought boatloads of those for a single coin and then sold them for two coins each to other people, or bought [I]two[/I] chairs for one coin and sold them for one each, etc. etc. etc.
Virtual economies usually end up being oddly functional even if they seem totally fucked up.
