That's true, but to be fair there's not much time to develop him at all. His previous traits were "Childish and kinda dumb" and really there's not much in the way of time to have him grow up and mature. This radical change in likes and/or dislikes is just shorthand for his changing as he grows since he can't show the whole process. It's jarring, and I can't really hope to defend it until his matured personality gets fleshed out more after they land or farther during the trip since it's such a big change.
Mostly I was just joking because FNR called me out on it, I have no strong feelings one way or the other.
Also he's become a mouth for the author since he's been on the boat, mostly employed to troll the fanbase and bring them back down to the reality with the fact that the kid's session length was only a day and that they are still kids.
