I mean before the dubstep name was applied. I think post-dubstep/future garage can still be called dubstep, I don't think things like Skrillex can be called dubstep because it's too far removed from what is dubstep.

i'm pretty sure music like that is just fidgety electro house.
Good for parties where no one listens to the music.
when i'm out of my mind intoxicated, i don't want to listen to good music. i want music i can move to.
Let's have another addition to this thread

Now this got literally no recognition in the actual dubstep thread, but it really is something that makes you feel. And it's free.
Recommended.
post dubstep.

Except for post-grunge.

It's still good though.

don't even get what that means at all :D
I'm really glad I found this thread. Cause I had no idea what genre to classify the new stuff I was getting into.
I don't know if you guys heard of this but Adult swim released an album Called Unclassified. And it's free to download.( Becareful music starts when website opens just hit download on the right.)

My favorite song one the album:

CHLLNGER - Haven - 2011
Genre: Garagey Dubstep (like Burial)
Don't let the artist name fool you (some hate it, but I'm just pointing it out) but this is a smooth take on what is soon to become a new age of dubstep.
Some didn't like Burial for being repetitive, but the only reason people found it boring was simply because they didn't like garage music. Dubstep is more about textures of electronic sounds creating an atmosphere.
It's definitely not as ambient as Burial, but very worthy all the same.
Grab it.
burial needs to stop releasing eps and put out that heligoland remix album he promised ):
Listen to Kryptic Minds – One Of Us with a subwoofer and tell me post-dubstep is better.
Hell I'm not going to say one is better than the other, but you can't say post-dubstep is what dubstep should been. Unless you even know what it is (benga is good and all, but his album is barely representative of dubstep) don't start saying what it should be or could be. Dubstep is about subbass and dub inspired halftime 2step rhythms. James blake is good but he is closer to pop than dubstep and shouldn't be though of as "what dubstep should be" he should just be a recognized artist on his own.

^ like it or not, is dubstep. Full of innovation for it's time (2004) and an amazing experience with a good setup.
I may or may not make an actual TRV Dubstep thread, but this is not it. This is just dubstep inspired pop (minus burial) that has wide appeal.
[editline]11th December 2011[/editline]
Weird that Burial is being considered post-dubstep considering he came before both Skream and Skrillex
I do like it, but it just didn't grab me, of course all of the times I've listened to it I haven't really been invested in it and that's usually when I enjoy music the most. I'll probably give it another good listen after I get my Sennheiser HD201's for Christmas.
Skreams earliest record was in 2003 with benga. Burial's earliest release was in 2006. Burial isn't really post-dubstep but more of experimental garage with a lot of inspiration from dubstep and Hyperdub (release label)
The actual true dubstep is stuff like Loefah, Digital Mystikz (Mala and Coki), N-type, J:Kenzo, Distance, Skream (he does a lot of stuff though, but he does a lot comparable to other artists I'm mentioning), Headhunter, Kryptic Minds (after the dnb), Kromestar, Silkie, Pinch, Goth-Trad, etc.
Like it or not these are the artists that invented dubstep, or are still making it. Don't worry about liking the music just stop trying to be wikipedia when you have little knowledge on the subject ;)

However, I think you really really misunderstood the point of this thread. Akayz isn't saying that post-dubstep and future garage (or whatever you want to call it) are the only "real" dubstep or that they were the first dubstep, he is just saying that it is the best and most enjoyable form of dubstep. Feel free to disagree but we don't need elitism itt.

It's not just him. Although I really shouldn't have posted him since he's a minimal style of techno and soul.
I do agree with you, the original idea of dubstep is a lot more than this thread.
I just think this new era has a lot more potential for expansion.
There's nothing wrong with Drum and Bass, but there are literally thousands of albums with nothing that inspired it all. It's club music inspiring this, then it's given a tech boost and people like "heavier drops".
[editline]12th December 2011[/editline]
Again, nothing wrong with anything. I've listened to a crapload of club music.

It's good, no doubt about it. It's just not making me feel anything as compared to this era of dubstep. It's club music, I have a ton of this stuff.

Also funny how your top listens are James Blake and Burial. :v:
I didn't take Skream into account because I didn't listen to it that much, but then again I've found out he's not actually THAT old. Only 5 years ago.
I like this
Anyone heard of Swarms?

but this whole surge in "minimalist dubstep" seems pretty elitist and contrived, as if only as a reaction against bro-step. I listened to everything posted here, including a dozen or so of burials works but nothing about it strikes me as being phenomenal, or at least worthy of all the praise it's been getting lately. It's not bad, but it seems pretty dull especially for genre thats newer than most.
Of course it's elitist. When a minority enjoys to "feel" the music, the majority would call it boring and dull.
I was shown Burial about a year ago by a guy who hated them for not having bass.

It's like the culture that permeates indie music and indie music itself. Pretentious and generally not very good.
Club music will always be apart from this stuff. But nobody is saying it's better.
There's just more to discuss as compared to the normal kind.
well, the thing is I normally like ambient and IDM styled music so much of the time I can enjoy something that many others would write off as boring. This stuff though just seems to have gotten popular because of a backlash against what dubstep more is nowadays.

But who are you to say the majority is not about "feeling" the music as well? They "feel" other stuff.
Obviously that guy had a wrong set of expectations. That's easily fixable.

Labeling it club music is patronizing I think. People listen and enjoy that music at home.
EDIT: And post-dubstep gets played in clubs.

I didn't mean it to be patronizing. But dance/house/dnb/dubstep are all in the same boat of enjoyment.
I'll put on an album and it pretty much trances you out with ease.

That's true. Then again, it's a whole different side of dubstep that makes you discover something different. It's not really about being unique with beats and bass.

that's how punk and most post- genres got big though
