No it doesn't. I'm not even Christian and I don't pray but I know that's not how it works. Some people think that praying is the best option, yes, but that's not all people, and that's not most sensible people. I know people who choose to do both. He obviously cares and would have his mind in the right place to donate. Also, if you're so worried about him praying and not donating, why not quit bashing his religion and positively encourage him to do so?
And guys, why bother praying? Go make a bake sale or something and give donations. Praying is for the lazy. Pwease god, pwease, I'm too fucking lazy. And like praying ever even works. Even if Christian God existed.
Just because someone chooses to pray doesn't mean they won't do all of those things. They may not look at it as the only solution, but as an added help.

Plus, think of the mindset. "Oh those poor people.... I KNOW, I'LL ASK GOD TO HELP THEM!" *Prays* "Well, that's all I can do. The rest is up to God".
What if the people in Japan don't want him praying to a Christian God? If God did exist, then he was responsible, no? How benevolent. All part of the plan. And if everything is 'all part of the plan', why pray? It's all on rails anyway.

And before you go "well he should do something more useful!", more likely than not, he wouldn't do anything if he was an atheist either. Jesus christ, you people, the OP was just showing some basic empathy and humanity.
A lot of them actually have the mentality that God wants them to go take action beyond prayer. You wanna guess how many Christians are working at Red Cross? Well it seems you're so concerned, you might as well encourage him. People in Japan don't give a crap about who they're praying to right now, they just want help in whatever way they can get it. And according to Christians, God makes his decisions based on what they people do and feel- and that's been going on since Adam and Eve to them. [editline]12th March 2011[/editline] Seriously if you guys know so little about a religion, you should learn more before you try to bash its practices.
I personally just see this as life and I go on with it without giving much care or thought to many events occurring throughout the world good or bad. I actually felt more sad today from personal things than the events abroad.
This. Couldn't have said it better myself.
Because the US didn't get revenge on Japan for Pearl Harbour or anything...

I'm saying that praying will encourage some people not to donate. Not everyone, but it will put some people in that Mindset. I'm not insulting Flicky, I'm insulting religion

You have no free choice with an omniscient god, really.
You're not insulting religion, you're insulting Christianity.
Okay I guess I can't back down from that.
But since the Abrahamic God supposedly is omniscient, then he already knows what you do and feel, and therefore has already made his decision. You have no free choice with an omniscient god, really.
Well then, if that god is determining how they should act, they should act according to what they believe is god's will- that is, more encouragement to them to help out in whatever way they can. Contag, it doesn't matter if a god listens to the prayers or not. That's not the point. [editline]12th March 2011[/editline] Patriarch, it sounds like you're speaking based of stereotypes about a very big group of people.
Contag, it doesn't matter if a god listens to the prayers or not. That's not the point.
Yes it fucking does. People are praying to this God in the hope he'll make the bad things go away. Has he? No. Children are still starving. Japan is still in the aftermath of a Quake. There are some people who will not donate, but will instead pray.
Okay who are these people you're referring to? I've got a newsflash for you. There are people who distort every religion and every type of thing. That doesn't mean that ALL PRAYING EVER is a bad thing. Praying doesn't encourage anyone to do anything.
Well then what is the point? Spend the time praying doing something else, anything at all?
Anyone who wishes death upon an entire race of people because of something a tiny fraction of said race did almost 70 years ago is a braindead boob.
Prayer can take a person what, a minute? Two minutes? I don't see what the point in attacking prayer is when a lot of Christians are out there donating and adopting and feeding the poor and sending their money out etc. etc.
Cut it with this god crap Convoluted, you know fine well 80% of FPers are atheist or agnostic. There's no point in having this argument again. I personally think praying is a useless waste of time. Some people think otherwise. If they want to pray, that's fine - let them. But don't try to get other people to pray - you'll just seem like a pretencious douche.

That's the fast food of prayers. Did you ever do anything Christian?

I don't believe in Christianity but I don't think bashing it like this is right. Contag, who are you asking? This guy would shit his pants if I'd see him being that intolerant.
Nope. I thought I was atheist most of my life. Now I consider myself of a Taoist. See, I'm not biased.
No. I'm not going to "cut it with the god crap." All I've seen in the last page is you going "Hurr durr don't insult Christians". So what some of them donate stuff and volunteer? I've donated, I've volunteered for a few things. Being human isn't restricted to being Christian.
