NO. FOR FUCK SAKE WE AREN'T CRITICIZING RELIGION WE ARE CRITICIZING THE STUPIDITY OF PRAYERS AND HOW THEY DON'T DO A THING!

Actually I am
Who in their right mind bows their head to "talk" (beg) to their imaginary friend when they hear of a catastrophe??
"oh shucks i done prayed for them now i dont have to donate/be useful in anyway"
Thing is, I knew all my friends were Christian and all prayed to God, so I knew it was okay to ask.
Two working hands do more to help than ten million praying ones. Put God to rest. Do something about it if you really give a fuck. They don't need your sympathy, they need money/food/water/shelter. And I can tell you God's not giving it to them.
People are assholes, you'll run into them anywhere, also you were being a little bit of a douche for trying to get everyone to pray with you, if you wanna pray for the people that life decided to take a shit on, thats your business, but don't ask other people to do it, thats intolerant to their respective religions and beliefs. The world is full of assholes, you just let them do their thing and do your own, if they have a problem with it fuck 'em. But what do I know I'm just a depressed person with a loathing for modern society who happens to be drunk right now.
So yeah. In science we were working on our project while watching the news about the earthquake and tsunami in Japan.
I was praying for the people in Japan (like really praying, hands together and everything), and asked everyone around me to do the same.
And then my friend Joe pipes up.
"I hope they all die."
I swung around to look at him and I swear my eyes felt like they were staring at him with burning embers for pupils. I asked him why he thought that. Apparently he was still mad at Japan for Pearl Harbor, as 4 of his great uncles died there. I explained to him: "Dude, the entirety of Japan didn't say, 'Hey, let's go bomb Hawaii!' Why should they suffer now?"
He just wanted them to.
Mind you that this is a person who constantly says he wishes somebody would kill Obama.
So yeah. I think he needs counseling.
Yeah, your friends a retard.

Just posting this here, I didn't write this
I hate all these Americans saying that the Japanese Earthquake was karma for Pearl Harbour, for these reasons.
1. It wasn't a successful attack, didn't really do anything
2. YOU FUCKING NUKED THEM
3. And, it was 70 years ago, all the people involved in the attack are dead or senile right now.
But it basically sums up my feelings.

Nobody forgets about the Spanish Inquisition!
Give her the comfy chair!
It's is funny how so many Americans are mad at Japan about Pearl harbour and think justice is served to Japan.
While totally ignoring/forgetting Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
What's worse? Attacking a military installation or Nuking 2 cities with military installations, killing a hell-of-a-lot-of civilians.
I hate how everyone's so eager to knock down religion when theyre missing the WHOLE point. It's not " Let's Pray for Japan, God will probably help them," It's " Let's be positive through out hard times and be positive even tho there's so much bullshit. This thread reminds me how selfish the world is. No wonder our society is so corrupt. Lost all faith in mankind.

So if I don't want to pray I can't be positive? I can't just say something like, "I'm sorry to hear about those people in Japan, I hope they get through it okay."? Complaining about someone not praying seems to imply that those doing it think it will do something, or at the very least are implying that it's the only way to be truly positive about it, which is rubbish in and of itself.
I think praying is a form of support, or an attempt to do so. At the very least, it's a plea to do something, which likely won't be directly acted on. Who knows man. fuckin miracles
[editline]14th March 2011[/editline]
And of course, this is all in the sense of the pleading prayer(which I suspect is what OP is going for, and all in the thread suggest.)
However, a contemplative, philosophical prayer with the intent to consider the causes behind it, the issues going on, the plight of the people, and other philosophical ideas does in fact have an effect, in that it brings both a changed state of mind and a more enlightened view on the situation, although it does not change the greater world.
At the very least, it's a plea to do something, which likely won't be directly acted on. Who knows man. fuckin miracles
I'm just saying, there's a lot of better ways to go about this than praying. A miracle isn't going to save the people who lost their homes and it won't bring back the dead. What should be done, if anything, is one of 3 things:
1. Donate something to help with the relief effort if you can.
2. Have an intelligent discussion (perhaps scientific) about how these disasters occurred and analyze how it happened.
3. Simply acknowledge that you show sympathy for the unfortunate souls who were affected and that you hope they come out of the disaster alright.
Note how in all of those proposed options not one of them included praying, or hoping, or incoherent rambling. These are good options to either show that you give a shit, actually do something, or learn more about it. Praying accomplishes only the act of showing you give a shit, and even then it only shows it to some people.
Unfortunately, I think you're both retards. One, you're religious to the point where it affects other people around you, and two, he's a retard.
1. Don't ask people around you to pray
2. Instead of praying, do something useful, like donating to the red cross
3. That guy SHOULD fuck off and die.

That guy should re-think about that.
And also, Japanese people are full of themselves, and their country is fucking rich, you WON'T see their government asking for help pretty soon.

Hahaha, oh wow. Have you no sympathy for these people?

They have the second largest debt in the world...
I am cold and unfeeling
Did anyone else have trouble keeping their face from imploding after cringing so hard from the corniness of OP?

"I swung around to look at him and I swear my eyes felt like they were staring at him with burning embers for pupils."
lol
I was reading up on an article in class about the tsunami and a friend of mine said he was "already board" of the japan stuff.
as if it was meant to entertain him :colbert:
a note on the OP:
you were really asking people, in class, to pray for stuff?
Isn't that like against your religious teachings or something?
oh wait i forgot christians don't need to follow the bible on everything, just hating on homosexuals and being dicks to non-christians
(had to look to find this)
Matthew 6:
1 "Be careful not to do your ‘acts of righteousness’ before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.
“So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
5“And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
9“This, then, is how you should pray:
“‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.
14For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.
16“When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show men they are fasting. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that it will not be obvious to men that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
Is he a Christian?
As far as I can guess, yeah. I mean, just straight up askin a bunch of people around him in class(probably america) to pray is a pretty christian sounding thing
