I feel with him. Tried to come out to my mum about the same thing but at the last second I got nervous and said I am gay instead.

I admire Jack here for his courage. I came out a few years ago as being black, and life's been hard for me before and since, even though I'm still happy I did it. Before I came out, my family and friends didn't understand. I'd slip and casually call someone a nigga, and they'd tell me I was being a racist. I couldn't get the courage together to tell them the truth back then.
When I did come out, my family didn't accept me. They tolerate it now, but I don't think they really accept me for being black. (Who's the racist now?) However, I absolutely encourage you to be honest with yourself and your loved ones about being black.
It's hard in the early days but it does get better. I'm now an open, out and proud african american. I'm putting my hair in dreads next week, and I wear pride shirts like this one every day

which at first were embarrassing but now renew my confidence. I'm so happy now. I haven't had to listen to U2 in years. It's hard, but coming out really will be better for both you and Jack in the long run.
I bet he was inspired by this brave kid
