Not really
It did. Everyone thought it was going to be complete and utter shit, and in the end it turned out to be just ok.
It did. Everyone thought it was going to be complete and utter shit, and in the end it turned out to be just ok.
Fair enough. It wasn't the feminist masterpiece that people were claiming it was going to be. Who knows how this will turn out though? Everything but ScarJo really intrigues me.

Definitely feels like the anime to me, which is a good sign. Shout out to the designer who thought to make the the cyberpunk paramount logo at the beginning of each teaser
"Just ok" is not good enough, it was rather trash.
people kept telling me how awful the new ghostbusters was and kept saying how its the worst thing ever that i literally got hyped up for the worst movie of all time and found it average
Anyone who doesn't thinks ScarJo can't act should watch Under the Skin
Scar Jo is a robot irl, so I think she's a good fit. Who would you guys want to be Motoko?
i want motoko to be 2d
The aesthetic is nice, and it could definitely hint at a good cyberpunk atmosphere. BUT, these are just teeny snippets and show barely anything at all. A proper trailer would be better than just a few snippets.
So what exactly is the story going to be about in this one? Is it a remake of the first movie, SAC, arise, or something new to the material?
somebody recut all these to look like an actual trailer it's already too late but we can at least pretend
So what exactly is the story going to be about in this one? Is it a remake of the first movie, SAC, arise, or something new to the material?

Based on the internationally-acclaimed sci-fi property, “GHOST IN THE SHELL” follows the Major, a special ops, one-of-a-kind human-cyborg hybrid, who leads the elite task force Section 9. Devoted to stopping the most dangerous criminals and extremists, Section 9 is faced with an enemy whose singular goal is to wipe out Hanka Robotic’s advancements in cyber technology.
I have mixed feelings about this
They've definitely got the cyber punk vibe down.
Just to add some narrative context, this isn't going to be anything like GITS except names and a few hamfisted references. Story is the Major is a one-of-a-king "human cyborg hybrid" (yes that's their own words). So immediately one of the core factors of the Major's character is non-existent. Being a cyborg specifically with a body model that's civilian-grade in looks is central to who she is. The whole struggle to find her own identity despite being perceived as the same as everyone else on top of the fact that she doesn't actually own her body is a consistent struggle. Then lets look at the actual plot synopsis: The Laughing Man in this case is the terrorist wanting to wipe out Hanka's AI developments. So again completely missing the true point of Laughing Man, who/what he is, what created him and what he stands for. It just seems to be mashing in a bunch of elements and hoping to forge a plot out of it. Cyberpunk at its core is a narrative-based genre. A bunch of visual elements don't make it, the themes and ideas do. So they can shove all these visual references in all they like it's not going to shield the fact that they've completely missed the point of GITS.
Well one could articulate the "one of a kind human cyborg hybrid" meaning how Motoko is unique from pretty much everyone whose fully cybertized. Depending which narrative you follow she was essentially born into a cyberbody, thus never having ever truly been human (per say). Assuming they're pulling from previous material that would coincide with this, since at least according to previous narratives she was the only person to have ever had that happen. Not to mention (once again depending which narrative you follow) she has swapped bodys and played various roles in war, uprisings, guerrilla movements, etc as well as had her consciousness combined with a digital entity and what not. The way they put it would be a very dumbed down and easy to digest statement. Ghost in the Shell can be a difficult series to understand if someone is not used to following the nuances of detail. On a side note, is #4 supposed to be Aramaki? Like the hair thing makes sense but that seems out of character to me.
yes, beat takeshi is playing aramaki. [editline]22nd September 2016[/editline] the cast photos have been floating around for a while now. [t]http://i.imgur.com/EdHsZDM.jpg[/t] [editline]22nd September 2016[/editline] [t]http://i.imgur.com/cZLzo57.jpg[/t]

Kind of an odd choice for Borma(?) if you ask me, they could have at least shaved his head. Why does Batou have "normal eyes"? Then again through each narrative most of the characters have had slightly different (or very different) appearances, so I suppose I shouldn't complain over the stylistic choices.
I feel like they more or less aced matching the cast to the original character designs, especially Saito and Ishikawa.
I'm looking to watch GitS, where should I start ? first movie or anime.
I'm looking to watch GitS, where should I start ? first movie or anime.
First watch the GITS movie, then SAC anime
I still don't understand why Batou doesn't have the cybernetic eyes
First watch the GITS movie, then SAC anime
Make sure it's the 1995 movie. The 2008 version is a George Lucas quality remake.
Just go watch GITS and SAC then pretend this isn't happening. I mean, their character designs look neat, the sets and visuals great. I have little faith the writing though.
First watch the GITS movie, then SAC anime
Under no circumstances are you to watch the new movie at least until those have been watched. Even then once those two are done you should watch Arise before the new movie.

The Targaryens siblings in Game of Thrones originally wore purple contacts in order to match the source material but it hindered the actors ability to emote so they got rid of them. just speculation on my part though, I dunno
Under no circumstances are you to watch the new movie at least until those have been watched.
I still don't understand why Batou doesn't have the cybernetic eyes
I'm hoping it's because they're going to do his eyes in CGI
Togusa doesn't look right, guessing cause they completely changed his haircut
That and he looks older than the character should be.
it's really strange togusa just looks like a japanese dude when he was the most american looking guy on the team, batou coming close behind dream casting tho [t]http://i.imgur.com/Eln8Crx.png[/t] [t]https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/236x/48/9b/f1/489bf1ce2b01d4af861041eddbe7c754.jpg[/t] [t]http://www.celebheights.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Ron-Perlman.jpg[/t]
it looks alright if a bit too clean, grime and urban decay is a big part of the GITS aesthetic also i feel like the major should be played by a more athletic actor but maybe that's just a personal thing
Togusa doesn't look right, guessing cause they completely changed his haircut
I hope they aren't final. Batou without his bionic eyes would be a shame
