1x10^(-∞)%
Haha, well spotted, but that was actually a mistake on my part. I meant "one" as in "one ... the other", not as "1". So more unambiguously the question would be: A mother tells you that she has two kids, and at least one of them is a boy. What are the chances that the other one is a boy too?
Question: A mother tells you that she has two kids, and one of them is a boy. What are the chances that the other one is a boy too?
50%
Very tricky arithmetic! Note: This must be done in your head only . Do NOT use paper and pencil or a calculator. Try it. Take 1000 and add 40 to it. Now add another 1000 . Now add 30 . Add another 1000 . Now add 20 . Now add another 1000 Now add 10 . What is the total?
Question: A mother tells you that she has two kids, and one of them is a boy. What are the chances that the other one is a boy too?
This is the same as that "goat behind a door thing" isn't it? I say 2/3 or something like that. Because there are two possibilities - she has 1 boy 1 girl or 2 boys. In the first case then only the boy would have been mentioned when you say she has at least one boy. In the second case, either one of the two boys could have been that "at least one" meaning 2 times out of 3 the case would be that she has two boys. second EDIT: Damn I thought I had it too :(
5000
This is the same as that "goat behind a door thing" isn't it?
Haha, well spotted, but that was actually a mistake on my part. I meant "one" as in "one ... the other", not as "1". So more unambiguously the question would be: A mother tells you that she has two kids, and at least one of them is a boy. What are the chances that the other one is a boy too?
Question is still flawed because it isn't stated whether the children are mutually exclusive. The correct answer for this question is dependent on how the asker views it.
Apparently 40 plus 30 plus 20 plus 10 is 1000 to me
yes thats right, sorry zydos, its not 5000. 40 plus 30 plus 20 plus 10 is 100
Ya, oops, I durrped out. :v:
If the mass of a sliding block is tripled at the same time the net force on it is tripled, how does the resulting acceleration compare with the original acceleration? Air Resistance, and surface friction is negligible.
If the mass of a sliding block is tripled at the same time the net force on it is tripled, how does the resulting acceleration compare with the original acceleration? Air Resistance, and surface friction is negligible.
it's exactly the same.
If the mass of a sliding block is tripled at the same time the net force on it is tripled, how does the resulting acceleration compare with the original acceleration? Air Resistance, and surface friction is negligible.
a = F/m a = 3F/3m = F/m

Same?
This is the same as that "goat behind a door thing" isn't it? I say 2/3 or something like that.
Yeah, it's the same idea The possible ways the woman can have children are: 1 = boy, 0 = girl 11 10 01 00 When you shut out the possibility "00" because one of them must be a boy, you're left with three choices of which only one contains two boys - only 1/3 chance that the other one is a boy too.
Same?
sneaky edit.
sneaky edit.
muahahaha
Got me for about 3.2 seconds.
First child | Second child 1 | 0 1 | 1 the first child will always be male, so it's 50%
First child | Second child 1 | 0 1 | 1 the first child will always be male, so it's 50%
She says the first child is the male? It could be the second.
Q: You are participating in a race. You overtake the last person. What position are you in? Q: Mary's father has five daughters: 1. Nana, 2. Nene, 3. Nini, 4. Nono. What is the name of the fifth daughter?

1. Some months have 30 days, some months have 31 days. How many months have 28 days? [editline]11:25PM[/editline]
Write 5.3 in standard form.
5.3 x10^0
What is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?
Many factors affect this, the height affects the density of the air thus affecting air friction AND thrust. Be more specific! ;)
