I sort of scoffed at the cliched cut to black while shooting but otherwise it was pretty good. As soon as it cuts to black it murders any amount of suspense you may have had because you immediately know it's going to be the other gun firing. Would have been much better to just have a plain shot of the CP's mask shattering all over the camera and have him drop like a sack of potatoes.
Don't you have to post applications on most servers on their forums first before you can play as a Metropolice? :v:
There used to be pretty cool HL2RP called CombineControl a while back. To become CP, you had to fill in an application in-game (which included IC and OOC sections), and SqL -ranked CPs (which weren't dime in a dozen) read them and chose whether you were or weren't accepted.
Unfortunately, CC was shut down. IIRC the administration couldn't keep CC up actively (I might be horribly wrong tho).

either that or cut to a different angle of the pistol, show it firing and making the sound effect way louder to make it seem more dramatic, before slowly moving the camera over to show the dead CPs and the surviving citizens
idk lol

The face was completely different.

Pretty sure that's still Rochelle's face, just higher quality. It was Rochelle's head on a citizen's body. Not that difficult to understand.

For the amount of serious detail, I feel that KrasniyB could do better at some HL2 SFM. Cause he's kinda milked the serious TF2 train.
As said before, it makes me want to play HL2RP but unfortunately all the servers might as well have passwords on them for how private the RP is.
I never really caught on to the different models of CP
Like, all I remember them being was a set of models someone made for GMod a long time ago. Is there any backstory to the different CP models or are they just there to look good?

The ones with the slit filters are based off of beta concepts for elite CP units.

According to Kleiner's broadcast in Ep1, the field stopped embryos from properly forming.

The guy who made the CP models you're referring to is the same person who made this video. Deviant Pictures Films (DPFilms).

So he's using an impressive amount of original content.
Fan-made models to represent Officers, higher ranks, etc
Not all of them are fan made. The one in the video is the Elite Metrocop, something that was in Raising The Bar. Not a lot was said about it but he is one of the higher ranking officers.
Man I wish the were more classes of Metropolice in Half-Life 2 itself like in the concepts of Half-Life 2 and this video.
It's cool for the looks, but I always liked how Civil Protection had a rather enigmatic hierarchy (if one at all) that set itself apart from the usual sci-fi police force. The fact that they're all anonymous shells commanded by a cold, clinical voice from the sky has a sense of beauty on its own. I think it's best that way and I'm glad Marc Laidlaw took that direction.
and I 100% guarantee that if exactly this situation played out in an RP server, the metrocop would get banned for RDMing or demoted for not doing his job.
One time on a TnB RP server this one metrocop decided to organize an event where he forced all the citizens to watch as he took out four innocent bystanders at random, dressed them up as rebels and had them all lined up against the wall. He was going to execute them in order to intimidate the masses.
And then in comes the admins who proceed to let all the captives go (And give them rations for compensation) and proceed to declare that the metrocop who started it will receive a permadeath for being out of line.
Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

You know HL2RP servers, if its interesting for the civies in any way, can't have it.

it's meant to be a recreation of it but all the actual models were done from scratch as far as i know

Also having high-ranked officer wearing fancier outfits only helps rebel to pick out the most important targets.

Gameplay wise it was also interesting. The dynamic squad leader assignments meant you had to watch their behavior instead of their uniforms to stay alive. It wasn't used much in the canals, but it was prevalent in the street battles.

Wait, really? I never noticed that kind of stuff.
That is probably because you were good at the game. Dynamic squad leaders and the squad behavior system were really nice, but if you had good aim and a fair amount of confidence you could just ignore it and blast your way through everything with ease, even on hard. If you have gmod, just load up a street warfare map and fiddle around with the prespawned combine, and you will notice it. You can also use the developers console to tweak with squads and how they will behave.
I wish there's more media focusing on the HL2 universe before Freeman arrives, there's so much stories to tell.
The seven hours war, the direct aftermath, the years before Freeman, the time window when Freeman teleported out of this dimension with Alyx and took like a month to come back.
I'd actually really like to see more stuff about the latter. Seeing how rebels got a hold of their equipment, started organizing, who decided to stay and help or leave amidst the shitstorm, and how they got a hold of all these Civil Protection jackets (which were probably brought along by CP defectors).

I don't think it was ever intended to be used as a high ranking officer and more like as a task force operator that's sent with other units wearing the same uniform to deal with shit that's too rough for regular CP but not enough for combine soldiers.
Also yeah the model was done from scratch, Raising the bar only shows a concept art. Same for the trench coat CP, although that was probably abandoned because it looked too inconvenient (same reason none of the combine units wear shoulderpads even though it was very common to include these in designs at the time or even now, it's not convenient for what they have to do).

I think it's just that the field somehow prevents conception.
They can all fuck as much as they please
Great quality production. The use of standard sounds and voices in an original script comes off as a bit weird at first, but I guess they can often raise the immersion better than custom recordings (which have a tendency to sound awkward in such an otherwise familiar setting).
I really love stories exploring the subject of the life in City 17 pre-Freeman. Hardly an original subject, but I feel the writing in HL2 has built a sparse but intriguing narrative understructure regarding the Combine oppression and the struggle of humans that really deserves expanding upon.

it's easy to forget from a gameplay perspective when they're the cannon fodder enemies but goddamn that design is scary in all the right ways from an aesthetic perspective, especially with those voices.
