I guess it's kind of disturbing to think that that's what you look like inside
That's what makes it so facinating for me. I could spend all day in these exhibits.
Chuck Norris, it's official. You are no longer the most badass mother fucker around.
Amazing. Really shows how beautiful the human body is. For once a Facepunch thread increased my hope in humanity!
I read a book where this guy does the same thing, then later is put in an insane asylum.
I have actually been to see these in exhibition, the man is gifted. i remember being in awe of one piece, it was a head, but stripped of all components but the blood vessels, but still retaining the heads shape. unbelievable.
I saw this in real life at the mueseum of science and industry.
Here's a video I found. Note: You need Silverlight to play it.
I just realized.
Haha. Spooky coincidence.
This guy had an 'Autopsy for Beginners' series once, where he dissected human corpses on TV for an audience for education and stuff. The series was split up into different functions like digestion, circulation, movement, etc. It was disgustingly interesting, for a while.
He should put himself on display.
He plans to do so.
My god... my god my god... These are.. BEAUTIFUL!! Really makes someone as twisted like me want to do artwork like him.
I wonder what his business cards look like.
It's beautiful... so beautiful...
I was always squeamish. Doesn't bother me at all. Reassuring since I want to go into medicine.
I read something about him in some magazine once, shit's cool.
I was always squeamish. Doesn't bother me at all. Reassuring since I want to go into medicine.
Precisely! This isn't a morbid exhibition, it's science. Probably the best example I can think of for learning about what the body looks like.
I find it awesome how he can preserve it all.
I'm sure he has the permission of the families of these dead people. Why is this sick? It exhibits the intricacies of the human anatomy in a very unique and in-depth way way.
I don't know about you, but a pirate dead body complete with eye patch, parrot and fucking pirate ship wheel to turn isn't very educational and doesn't give me a clue of human anatomy. Besides from making me think that humans are fucking creepy as shit [editline]07:57PM[/editline]
Precisely! This isn't a morbid exhibition, it's science. Besides, to me morals come before science. But you know me, a moron and all :downs:
Unless the person who died requested to by turned into a pirate.
Yes true, but I still fail to see the real educational/anatomy learning experience out of it. I can just see it now Captain Skinless and his adventures AHOY MATIES, WATER AT TEN ACLOCK, READY THE SKIN SUITS

There are a lot of more detailed and "educational" exhibits as well. It's just that those don't get shown on the internet or used in the advertisements as much because they're not as visually interesting as the "artistic" ones. For example, they have organs that have everything dissolved except for a specific system to make that system more visible, like the blood vessels only or the nerves only. Imagine an organ would look like if everything but the blood vessels dissappeared and the blood vessels stayed in place and you have a pretty good idea of what that looks like. If I recall correctly they also have a body cut into thin slices so you can see views the way an MRI machine takes them.

See I was right, that man has a skin suit. Evolution people. evolution
I saw the body works exhibit as a middle-school field trip. First it creeped me out, but it was actually pretty awesome to look at. It brought the pictures in the text-book to life, actually showing us what we were learning about. Showed us smoker's lungs compared to healthy, etc. The exhibit with the fetuses and such were actually curtained off, which I found in good taste because not everyone wants to see that.
so awesome
Now that is epic. Looks like he has three dongs though.
If I remember correctly they have an exhibit showing a real smoker's blackened lungs in extreme and disturbing detail. What ended up happening was that the cleaning crews kept finding unfinished packs of cigarettes near the exhibit. Apparently the exhibit had such a psychological impact that some people were simply discarding whatever cigarettes they had on them right then and there. This was confirmed by several visitors reporting that the exhibit had gotten them to stop smoking when other more conventional methods had failed. Eventually they started putting a special receptacle near the exhibit specifically for unfinished packs of cigarettes.
They're fucking incredible and I approve mightily.
This is the same thing as the Bodies Exhibit, I've seen this all first hand. It's fascinating stuff, I was walking around with my jaw hanging open the whole time. Well worth the 30 dollar admission.
These were made to educate people about the human body, and the people whose bodies were used gave their consent before they died, so no, it is hardly fucked up.
