Reindeer, complete with christmas presents.
Damn I'd give it a title. "The Nightmare Before Christmas"
It's funny you guy's unearthed this thread. You may remember my thread here: http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=842987 (feel free to bump, just don't get it removed) Well it's happening tomorrow. The crayfish will be taken out for the first time tomorrow and coated in a clear coat lacquer. :science: If it works as planned. I would like to attempt Plastination. I would need to get some stuff though, and do some research, so that won't happen for awhile.
He is German, stuff like this does not surprise me with them. I mean just look at his name 'Gunther von Hagens', it screams mad scientist.
joseph mengele
I saw this stuff when it was in LA. The Human Body exhibit. It's fascinating, at least for the scientist in me. They had a cross-section of a fat guy (Gabe lololol) and it was like 80% fat.
Wow, out-of-nowhere bump. Glad to see the topic remains interesting.
I guess it's kind of disturbing to think that that's what you look like inside
or that those are dead bodies cut open and skinned on public display which is morbid. You're all a bunch of sociopaths, he calls himself an artist like how Joseph Mengele called himself a doctor. What don't we already know about the human body that we have learned from this? He did it for fun and we all know it.

He's showing the anatomy of the human body in a real, tangible way, rather than through textbooks and pictures.
They're thought provoking, that's for sure. I get a vibe from the old idea of x-ray glasses. It looks at what lies beneath the surface, of all of us.
This guy probably had one or two... or... seventy... Nightmares after making this. He dips them in like a hot-waxy thing, which reminded me of House of Wax. Paris + Pole = Win.
the pirate is funny as fuck

Aren't boobs made out of fat and not muscle? Correct me if I'm wrong.
these send shivers down my spine but they're just so interesting... i love it
I'm surprised I didn't get disgusted by it.
I fucking hate that shit. I don't care if it's art or not, but I, in my open subjective opinion, totally detest it.
Jesus Almighty Christ on a Yamaha, WHAT THE FLYING FUCK?
I remember this guy from a few years back. He used to have a show on British TV during which he would do an autopsy live on air, and he always kept his hat on the entire time.
If I met this guy in real life, he would scare the shit out of me.
I actually went to BodyWorlds and saw his exhibits. Shit ton of corpses there too, I'll see if my family still has any pictures.
The pirate and reindeer ones are tacky as hell. Lost any respect I had for him when I saw those. Really embarrassingly low class.
Aren't boobs made out of fat and not muscle? Correct me if I'm wrong.
Which is why they appear white in color on the picture. As for me, I don't care much for it, not interesting in particular...
As weird as the art is, it is quite intricate and amazing. I wouldn't want to go see it, pictures are enough.
That reindeer is fucking scary :ohdear:
Recently, this was on display in NewYorkCity. So its not just limited to Europe. Suck it.
I'd donate my body to this, I've always been fascinated by how intricate and complex a human body is. Especially the circulatory system. From a scientific and an artistic standpoint, just looking at these is amazing.
I lol'd at the pirate one.
The human ones are a bit disturbing. He should make more animals :3:
This is actually really, really cool.
I went to see an exhibit of his work at the Ontario Science Centre some time ago with my father. It was very professionally done, no pirates or sex-poses, and very fascinating. It's somewhat a surreal experience, walking through a hall, surrounded by a veritable army of cadavers. There was one section where there were a few plastinated organs on display, and you were free to pick them up to have a look. The plastinated organs/flesh feel just like a hard rubber model, it's somewhat difficult to accept that the exhibits that you're looking, and feeling, in some cases, at were at one point living people/animals. One section that I found more disturbing than fascinating was a sectioned off area behind black fabric walls, out of sight of the people in the main hall, and labeled very clearly as to what's inside was the exhibit of fetuses throughout various stages of development in the womb. There were at least nine fetuses in there, one or more for each month of development, with a few others for various reasons that I don't remember. I'm still not sure if he's a genius or a psychopath, but I will admit that his plastinated bodies are seriously fascinating, if you're interested in that sort of thing.
I think that's cool, unique but cool.
The pirate and reindeer ones are tacky as hell. Lost any respect I had for him when I saw those. Really embarrassingly low class.
He did it to appeal to the children. :downs:
