Go for it, you'd hate yourself for the rest of your life if you didn't try.
do it
Definitely do it.
In a German Intel computer science competition teams can name themselves.
I considered naming my team "Team Opteron" if I ever got in :v:
Irony is, I think the computers we're using to do the simulations for the project are all running AMD processors :P.
Facepunch, I've run into a major impasse in my life here. Today I was offered by my teacher to join a team for the Intel Prize. Now, I'm incredibly excited and want to join in it...but, at the same time, I'm also incredibly anxious. I've been on FP long enough to realize that asking these questions tend not to end well, but I really hope you guys can give me some good advice on this(I also have seen people get banned for threads like this, and I hope I do not become one of them). The problem here is that I'm 14, and a freshman in high school. I don't feel like I can live up to the expectations and work requirements for this project, but I really want to join in on it. So, FP, got any advice for me?
Well i guess/hope your teacher knows his shit and he know that you can do it. Else he wouldn't pick you.
You're asking the internet for help? You must be really insecure.
Join the damn team, blow the competition away, and become a gajillionaire. Right now.
I think your biggest regret would be not taking the opportunity. If you try and it doesn't work out, then that's not as bad as forever wondering what could have happened had you accepted it.
HOW TO GET INTO GOODASS COLLEGES 101
Do shit like this.
Your teacher must have seen that you have potential so I say go for it. What's the worst that could happen?
just do it. it's your only chance and there's nothing to lose.
NERD
go for it motherfucker, it's a great opportunity
do it and impress the hot cyber bitches that intel is developing

If it's a solo project, then sure, shoot for it, you've got nothing to lose except some spare time. If it's a team project, and you don't think you're up to the grade or have enough time for it, then maybe it's not such a good idea, since other people would be relying upon your contributions, that you may not be able to adequately provide.
I am pretty sure that if you where accepted to be in this that the person who did accept you knows that you have the skills needed to win.
If you fuck up, mention facepunch .
Haha, yeah, I said the same thing. Apparently all my seemingly nonsensical ramblings about Subspace fields, matter anti-matter reactions and physics that I learned from Stargate/Star Trek was actually logical.
But can you control those fields and reactions with Bluetooth?
But can you control those fields and reactions with Bluetooth?
That'd be stupidly amazing.

I'll be sure to.
"Facepunch said blackholes don't exist when I posted a thread there. Also, the OIFY is apparently the center of the universe."
Read up on black holes, bro. The more you know, the better.
Go for it!
I felt the same way about the Intel Crysis Mapping Competition held back in 2008. I decided to join despite only having limited knowledge of level design using the Sandbox 2 Editor at the time, but I worked and worked and worked on it in my free time. 6 months later time came to submit it, and I just barely uploaded it to them at the last minute.
Next thing I know a month or so later when the results show up, I win 2nd place in creativity.... despite me FREAKING out the weeks before due to me accidently uploading a broken version map because I got wrong information on equipment packs not exporting (so you would always start with no hands or ability to use guns). I eventually uploaded a fix for this after the contest was over, but was it worth it? Totally. Even if I hypothetically didn't win 2nd place I still would say it was a good experience. Kind of hard to work on at times when it's your senior year at high school and you have a bunch of other things to do as well.
Good thing about being 14 is that you don't have to worry about working your part-time job either.

Already ordered a few Hawking books on my Kindle, I plan to do as much studying as possible, because...
Thanks to all of you guys(and a few other people), I've decided to opt into the team. Wish me luck, gents, I'll be making a thread in a few days to update you all on the whole project itself as we go along.

I was going to join the school newspaper too, but I doubt I'll have time now.
