Didn't really like the beginning, was just alot of noise.
The music at the end is a bit cliché aswell.
i love sigur ros but hoppipolla was a terrible song choice
so out of place
it fit perfectly what are you talking about.

yeah they're both cliché
What the hell is wrong with Eli's voice at 0:58?
Superb trailer.

Pretty nice.
This is MUCH Better
It's a well-edited trailer, but the music is goddamn annoying and the footage jerks around too much.
At least Sigur Ros fits the "drama movie" style that the maker of this trailer was trying to create.
They should have used Gman in the ending, not Dog.
I actually really enjoyed the fact that the Gman's only appearance is a short flash of him looking almost... friendly.
This is MUCH Better
Jerking footage is a gimmick at best, but when superimposed over and entire film, it becomes a headache to watch.

what the fuck how
it's far too lighthearted, and not even in an ironic way
What a Wonderful World / somewhere over the rainbow is fine because they're very useful for ironic purposes but it's dumb to have two ironic songs in one trailer and Hoppipolla just isn't good for that
I just got goosebumps when watching this. Why do you get it when watching such awesome stuff?

that's not really even a "theatrical trailer"
and while the individual editing may have been much better, it's also boring as fuck without hearing people speak
I just got goosebumps when watching this. Why do you get it when watching such awesome stuff?
your skin orgasms.
Gabe should see this, HIRE THIS MAN
possible hl2:ep3 advert?
if i saw this on tv and at the end it said HL2:EP3 coming soon, i would've creamed my pants....
...It's really not that good
I mean it's cool but the titling, editing, and soundtrack all leave a hell of a lot to be desired
and should've used a better Gman quote at the end, like "Is it really that time again?"

You seem really intent on arguing that you don't like the way it sounds.
The song has a kind of steady, floating rhythm that carries the montage along. I don't see it as a "lighthearted" song, I think that it sits at a focal point between a melancholy tone and a resentful or anxious tone. The man who made this trailer wanted to give the viewer an uplifted feeling in their chest by making the viewer, in a sense, "hope" for the resistance depicted. It's meant to appeal to a person who's looking at the trailer and learning about the game for the first time, of course it's not going to make a lot of sense to hear it when one realizes that half of the events seen in the trailer are grim downsides of the story.

how is that even a better quote, it's still out of context and doesn't sound that special.

Melancholy? Resentful? That's hilariously asinine. Do you happen to know the lyrics of the song?
Regardless, Hoppipolla would better fit some romantic comedy, not a post apocalyptic view of man's destruction. Yes, the tempo is great for a buildup in the montage, but the tone of the song isn't dramatic. And it's not "hopeful" in any sense. Even watching it without knowing half of the events you can tell they're bad points, I mean hell I don't even remember half of those bits (alyx holding onto the bar, etc).
but that's not even the point, you just don't have two songs that contradict the tone of the thing you're advertising, that's not how a trailer works.
how is that even a better quote, it's still out of context and doesn't sound that special.
hardly
given the events of HL1 that quote would fit pretty much perfectly. While in HL2 its gman's reference to gordon having to go back into stasis, in a trailer companies pull quotes out of anywhere as long as they have relevance to what's going on in the trailer
In the trailer you've got fucktons of action going on at once so "Is it really that time again?" would imply to those who haven't experienced half life that Gordon has gone through this shit before and that gman is a ~super mysterious guy who knows shit~. Whereas "we'll just see about that" isn't referencing anything - the last thing that was said was mossman going "I'm sorry about this gordon", so we don't really know what "that" is
all in all the trailer just has terrible flow through the music.
Somewhere over the rainbow was way too loud, as well as being intrusive and not fitting to the theme of the video. Otherwise, pretty good.

I wouldn't there is no footage of EP3 and it wasn't even brilliant anyway.
Well guys, Im off to go play through all of the Half-Lifes 10 times, wish me luck.
Also the song fits it because in that part of the video it starts showing resistance fighting back and giving you hope as Guardian-Angel said.
This video reminded me of why Half Life was the best video game series ever made.
That would have been amazing, but that second song utterly destroyed the whole thing for me.
Music can make or break videos.
what is the music at 1.30?
Hoppipolla by Sigur Ros
Kleiner's speech at the end was really empowering and awesome, way moreso than in the actual game.
Cream gravey.

I think that's the point. It seems to come from the Fallout school of trailers.

To me, this video is really disjointed and messy. I'm not very fond of those dark machinima clips or the old trailers. Someone should make something just like this, but with original footage specifically made for a trailer.
