Yes sir. I should have.
Generalizations are bad bro. I love all sorts of music. My collection has everything from country to black metal, jazz to big band, shock rock to classic. The only genre I cannot and will not accept into my collection is any sort of rap or hip-hop. Not because I am close minded, but because I can not respect the artists. I used to listen to rap and hip-hop when I was younger, but then I realized it's not my thing. And then I listen to lyrics that are pretty much all the same and that the artists don't see their music as art instead of a product. I can't listen to something that so repetitive and isn't even respected by its own creator. [editline]10:20PM[/editline] But that is my opinion. One that I do not plan on changing, by the way.
Genre discrimination is like race discrimination, you will always have certain prejudices depending on what music you grew up with. Also, metal music has a lot of angry pimply-faced teenagers and techno has a lot of skinny white kids waving around glowsticks and country music has dudes in cowboy hats sitting around drinking beer in a trailer.
Yeah, I'm stuck in rock, mostly (that includes metal). The only thing that can be considered rap that I listen to is Handlebars by Flobots.

I listen to mainly melodic death metal, but I love nearly anything else apart from classical and pop.

I don't know about anyone else, but I listen to all kinds of genres. Anything from rap to electronic, especially DnB, or maybe some alternative. I like it all, but that doesn't mean I like them all the same, I still have a favorite genre.
I've got a gifted ear I suppose, I listen to everything. And I sort of do believe in that musically immature thing that one guy was talking about above. I believe some tastes are acquired through repetitive listening and of course being a musician yourself. However, if you don't like something, that's completely fine. I think there's also a generation gap. I consider myself a lot of the times a first generation death metal listener... I think my tastes would be different from a lot of the new kids today listening to a different regiment of deathmetal. (Which is sort of a bad way of putting it since death metal never had much of a regiment to begin with... but you know what I mean)
I listen to music that I find enjoyable end of story, fuck all your close minded bullshit
Why not classical? Alot of the composition is absolutely brilliant, and when combined with metal is even more awesome.
I've never really enjoyed it. It's just a personal taste. I know it's well written and stuff and people who compose it are competent musicians, but I just don't like the music.
OP just made me Go eat some Italian food Btw Agree with the fact that alot of People are very close minded and will not try new things and stereotype certain types of music like metal=Scremo Rap=Cool Pop=Epic Classic Rock=Old Artists over 40=Not Cool Gay artists=Fags which can't make cool music. Older pop=Disco Disco=Afros Hip-Hop=Really Cool. Judas Priest=Btw Nub i herd dat rob halberd is g4y wot a fag col about 80% of my school are complete idiots. who love green day and Paramore.
Its not the music you listen to thats important.... It's the format! :mmmsmug:
people will always shit on music they dont like
My brother is pretty closed minded when it comes to music. He's always checking out thrash/death metal bands which aren't bad at all, just kind of repetitive. But whenever I check out something new he always says things like "what the fuck man that's carnival music" (Mr. Bungle) "dude that has a drum machine so it sucks" (Godflesh) "eww keyboards" (anything with keyboards).

That's disgraceful. Keyboards are amazing.
Introduce him to melodic death metal best fucking genre ever and it uses keyboards. Keyboards rule, easily one of my favourite instruments.
The one genre that you need, that you dont have yet.. Is soul.
You should punch him for hating keyboards. That's disgraceful. Keyboards are amazing.
Hell yeah, I love it when punk/hardcore/metal/whatever bands use keyboards. It's awesome.

I don't like keyboards when they're overused, but I won't say something sucks just because of keyboards.
To go on your food analogy, I eat a lot of British (consider that metal) food because that's what I was brought up on, but occasionally I will try something different. Alot of the time I won't like it, not my taste and lot of the time I will like it, but when I like it it tends to be European (consider that anything in and around rock n' roll) and when it isn't it will be catering to the European tongue.
Basically this for me. What would American food be?

Keyboards are awesome, organs especially:
Why not classical? I'm not a big fan of a lot of classical music unless it has a lot of energy like the stuff from Dr who. [editline]11:30AM[/editline]
Basically this for me. No simularities between the food and the music.
Classical music and metal go hand in hand... they're based on the same principals and work together beautifully.
I've never heard a band do it right, maybe I haven't been looking hard enough.
