Most people are gonna have one genre which they love above all the others, however they will have others that they enjoy if someone says they love metal that doesn't mean they're close minded, it means that metal has some sort of sentimental value to them or perhaps they simply like to get lost in it.

This pretty much. When I listened to In Flames, I fell in love with music, specifically metal. I still love In Flames even though there's a huge bandwagon of hate on their later stuff, just because they got me into music.

I have a lot of friends who are always like "Never heard of them, so they must be shit" which really gets on my nerves. I'm constantly trying to get people into bands, after all, half the fun of music is finding new stuff!

Completely agree. Even if it is in one genre, I like to see people listen to more than the most popular artists in that genre. I do link my friends music I expect them not to like, just to see if they grow on it. But you can't make someone like something.

I'll listen to anything, but my absolute favorite genre has to be Chiptune.
Much like with food, I'll try anything and probably enjoy it. I go into a new band / genre I haven't heard with the mindset that I'll like it and I usually do, with rare exception.
My dad refuses to listen to any Mahler besides the first symphony because he thinks the rest of it is too modern :raise:
My mum doesn't listen to anything other than classical music.
