• Music Genres And Close-Mindedness

I have a pretty open mind with music. My three favorite bands are Rise Against, Modest Mouse, and Pendulum, all of whom are radically different. The only genres I don't like are rap (I've tried to listen to it, just doesn't appeal to me), and Justin-Bieber-esque pop. I can tolerate pop and country, to an extent. I also like folk music from foreign countries because it sounds so different than what you usually hear.
You should try some soul :smug:
Dude soul is awesome.
My dad refuses to listen to any Mahler besides the first symphony because he thinks the rest of it is too modern :raise:
Oh wow. Tell him to listen to 'Resurrection' (2nd symph) I don't think it's too modern compared to his other works.

That's how I feel with classic rock and punk rock. The "punk rockers" say "oh, Led Zeppelin fucking sucks. They fucking sold out and played fucking stadiums and stole fucking riffs and their songs are too long." Then the classic rock heads say "Damn punk rock only has three chords in a 1:30 long song and they're horrible musicians." Just shut the fuck up. I love both. It's called diversity.

My dad left me his old record collection... about 25 boxes, he was a DJ, claimed it was around 7000 records, 3/4 of it northern soul. Every now and then, I just go in there, grab a random soul record, put it on and feel amazing

It is something glorious, all that matters is to relax and have some soul to get some soothing sounds running through your head. It is very healthy :smug: The "What's Going On" album, changed my listening bounderies completely. I started to get attached to other styles of music too and soul helped me to do that.
