Maybe he got really high, got the munchies, ate heaps of chocolate, went to bed, had a lucid dream (from the weed) and decided in this dream to be in sleep paralysis.
When he woke, he forgot that he had a lucid dream because he spent it all in a fake sleep paralysis and blamed it all on chocolate.
Just a theory though...
