Get out of here orange and blue, this is a volcanic eruption not a movie poster, you don't belong here.
Pictures like that always makes me realize the power of nature.
This is exactly why you don't drop the ring in Mt. Doom....
:iia:
I don't wish to make the lightning pictures any less exciting, but they are all long exposures, capturing many strikes in one image. You can clearly see this in this image: Still, pretty amazing.
I love looking at pictures of volcanoes erupting. Why is there always lightning during a volcanic eruption?
Ash particles rubbing together creates static electricity, when it reaches a certain point it discharges as lightning.
Oh man you could make so many glass flutes with that ash!
Blowout stalker!
some creationist is going to use this as a sign that "the world is coming to an end"
That last picture is awesome.
some creationist is going to use this as a sign that "the world is coming to an end"
some atheist is going to twist this event in order to put dirt on creationists
Mother nature is pissed right the fuck off, I tell you what

My favourite. Pretty amazing pictures.
Those volcanic lightning pictures are fucking amazing.
I gotta tell you, The Big Picture stories are the highlight of my day. Every single one of these threads is a must read.
Wow. do you have that last one in a higher resolution?
I gotta tell you, The Big Picture stories are the highlight of my day. Every single one of these threads is a must read.
This. Threads like these are always nice reads.

Volcanic lightning is the most badass thing nature has ever conceived.
These really look like a nuclear winter, everyone bundled up, ash/dirt plastered on everything.. quite interesting. Also whoever asked the ash generates lightning the same way water/ice droplets do.
Being in Chile almost makes you wish for a nuclear winter.
HOLY SHIT. Thats a lot of fucking ash.
