Yeah, you let that one main muscle group rest. But that doesn't mean you stay home the next day and don't train at all. You get your ass in their and train another muscle group.
Have you been getting good results by doing this?
My dad's a professional bodybuilder, came 2nd in the world and has many other accomplishments in the world of pro bodybuilding, too. I just follow his routine, so yes it works.
iirc it takes longer than 2 weeks before "real" muscle loss. of course there's a lot of variables like not eating enough, dehydration etc.
Came 2nd in the world?
Fair enough though, each to their own. Different routines work for different people, I was just saying the general rule for most people, specially beginners is to rest a day before going at it
Yeah. If you'd like, I'll find the newspaper article off of the internet.

Actually, I found this off a website. From the newspaper article.
A great body doesn't happen overnight, especially when you are on the cusp of middle age.
At 40, Langley's Neal Hamilton has naturally built one of the world's best physiques - and he wants to be a role model for men and women who may feel their best years are well behind them.
"For anybody who's 40 and over, it's not too late to get in the best shape of your life," the personal trainer and bodybuilder said. "Anybody can get in good shape if they really want to do it. It takes hard work, dedication, and sticking with it, healthy eating and a healthy lifestyle."
At the FAME World Natural Bodybuilding Championships June 10-12 in muggy Toronto, Hamilton flexed to second place in both the masters (40 years and older) and advanced divisions.
"I was pleased with being second in the world," said Hamilton, who competed in the 180 lb. and under middleweight division at the World Natural Sports Organization event. "For the masters, I thought I should have won. All the other competitors told me that I should have won, but it's up to the judges."
On stage, Hamilton was part showman, part strongman.
His routine in Toronto opened with a not-so-subtle nod to a bodybuilding icon, Arnold Schwarzenegger.
"I like this federation because you are allowed to use props on stage," Hamilton said. "This year, I did the Terminator theme, with the leather jacket and the glasses. I walked out like a robot. Then, the lights went out and I took out glow-in-the-dark Nunchucks. I did that for about 40 seconds and then it broke out into a rock and roll KISS routine. That brought down the house. The fans went crazy."
Providing inspiration in the audience were Hamilton's mom Bessie, his wife Susan, his daughter Chantelle, 16, and his son Brandon, 10.
"Without their support, this couldn't have happened," Hamilton said. "
While Hamilton strives to appear as though he's having fun on stage, his sport is extremely gruelling.
"Posing is really hard," Hamilton said. "You have to flex every muscle in your body and make it look like it look relaxed."
Placing second among a field of athletes from as far away as Australia, Egypt and England was the culmination of months of sacrifice and hard work for Hamilton, who lost 57 pounds for the event.
Over a four-month period, Hamilton went from 235 pounds to 178 pounds, and lived on strict diet of chicken, fish, brown rice, and potatoes while drinking the equivalent of several swimming pools full of water.
"It was a toughest thing I've had to do in my life," Hamilton said. "But I wanted to be world champion. It was my dream."
Hamilton said meditation helped him to stay focused and avoid cheating, as he trained six days a week, two hours a day, mixing weight lifting and cardio to sculpt his physique. When he looked in the mirror days before the world event, Hamilton knew all of his sacrifices were worth it.
"I was really happy with the way I looked," he said. "It was the best I've ever looked for a competition. I got my body fat down to four per cent."
A 23-year veteran of bodybuilding, Hamilton has learned volumes about his body, and its limits, as the years rolled past. And he isn't ready to retire from the sport he loves.
Hamilton is considering entering next year's FAME event, but only if he feels he is ready to contend for a world title.
"If I think I've improved enough, I might go next year, otherwise I'll take a year off. Then I'll be well prepared to win it," Hamilton said. "I won't stop until I'm world champion."
Motivator
Hamilton is a motivational speaker who visits high schools to warn students about the dangers of steroids.
"I want to tell the kids that you can train and get big without the use of enhancing drugs," he said.
Nice nice. How long you been lifting for? I personally wouldnt follow a pro bodybuilders routine if you're an armature
well his dad probably helps
I've been lifting on and off for 4 years.. I just started going hard recently. He knows what he's doing, if he says I can do it, then I'm gonna trust him haha.
Off Topic: Going to see Jay Cutler in March, he'll be at a Reflex Nutrition store out here. I'll post pictures, when and if I get any.
Youre lucky, you get a personal trainer for free :(
Yeah, tell me about it. He usually charges people over $50 an hour, I'm extremely lucky. He's good at motivating me too, gets me focussed and shit.

Something that most people forget that FORM IS EVERYTHING. Fuck heavy weights if you can't lift them properly. Good form all through your reps > shitty form with heavy reps
nice brah, we`re like the same height, weight, and close to similar build
what bodyfat are you in those pics???

seriously they are like mountains

What I mean is that most people's idea of overtraining is a lot less then what it really is.
Your bodies capable of so much more then you think it is.
Gym was closed today too. Ugh. That's 3 days without working out.

Might be true but I've noticed far more significant gains when I only train each bodypart once a week instead of twice.

I don't really know what he weighs right now, but I'm guessing around 240ish. Yeah, Jays a champ, but I don't have too much respect, considering all the 'roids he's done to get that big. Still pretty cool to meet him though.
I don't understand how working a body-part once a week works. Also, I don't think I could work one body part for very long. Usually I set it up where I can just reach 10 reps. Then I decrease weight slightly and do it again. In 10 minutes, that body-part is super sore and unable to do anything.
Benching for example. I can bench 10 reps of 160 lbs. But on the 10th rep of 160, I'm shaking pretty hard and feelin' the burn. So I decrease it by 20 lbs for the next 10 reps. I just continue this until I can barely hold up the bar. But it takes like 10 minutes. So it doesn't feel like a fulfilling work out at all, if I was to do this only once a week

Dude, Jay weighs like 300lbs in the offseason. I'm 240, 240 is not big unless your under 5'8.
And I still have mad respect for him, you can't take anyone and just juice them up and get them big, shitloads of people juice and still look like shit.
My bench max is 105 :smith:
My bench max is 105 :smith:
If you don't workout often (idk if you do) do you really expect to have high bench? If you have access to workout shit use it every chance you get, and within a few months you will see results.

Do multiple workouts per body part on the day that you do it. For example on chest day, don't just bench and then bench and then stop. Find a weight that you can lift 6-10 times for 3 sets, then bench that. After that, go grab dumbbells and do incline press. You should be pretty tired after that so go work another muscle to give your chest a break (I do calves on chest day) then come back and do other chest things (decline, pecs, dumbbell/barbell).
Working any muscle every day is terrible. Your muscles won't have time to recover (grow) and if somehow they do, you'll have a chest disproportionate to the rest of your body.
Why do calves on chest day? You should do something more like chest/tris or chest/shoulders since tris and shoulders are used in the compound lifts that you do for your pecs.
Why do calves on chest day? You should do something more like chest/tris or chest/shoulders since tris and shoulders are used in the compound lifts that you do for your pecs.
I guess because my shoulders and tris get enough work from chest stuff, so I do calves to give everything else a break.
What's your current split?
What's your current split?
5-days, something along the lines of
Chest/calfs
Back/abs
tris/bis
legs
shoulders/abs
Well, finally moving and there is a gym literally walking distance from my new house I plan on joining. And my new career choice requires me to be in the best physical shape I can be in so time to start hitting the gym full time on a regular basis. Should be fun and relieve a lot of stress.
Oh McDonalds how do you manage to fit 450 calories into a tiny mcdouble?
I love mcdonalds. 4 mcdoubles tonight oh yes.
