i just dumbbell benched two 95 lb dumbbells. Going to try to shoot for 100's next week
What do you usually do reps with? I never max so all the maxes in here are irrelevant to me.
when you guys say your "maxes", you mean the heaviest amount of weight you can put on which limits you to only one rep, right? if so i don't actually know any of my maxes. :I
I've got a dilemma here. I want to start working out and get on my way to being a beastmachine like some of you guys, but I never have enough time. I'm at school till 6:30 every single day and do schoolwork till about 10 then go to sleep, and I wake up every morning at 5:30 to get ready. I have membership to the YMCA down the road, and there's a (somewhat small) weight bench in my house, but I have no idea when I could work out, or what I should do to get started. I'm considering a P90X/Insanity combo (Insanity just for Cardio and Plyo). Is that a good idea, or should I start with something else? (I'm overweight, but I dont as much look it.)
i just dumbbell benched two 95 lb dumbbells. Going to try to shoot for 100's next week
Nice. That's my school record for DB bench to my knowledge. [editline]8th February 2011[/editline] Also, I'm getting off of a 4 day break. I ate horribly during that break as well. I have a feeling I just lost a whole lot of progress in just a few days. Also also, my gym schedule is changing so now it opens at 3:00PM instead of right after school at 2:20PM. How can I kill 30-40 minutes before working out? I could do cardio since the cardio cage (Fenced of area with bikes and ellipticals) would be open, but I don't want to wear myself out on cardio before weightlifting. My dad said to take my time with a long warmup and stretch session before working out, but I don't think I could spend 30 minutes warming up. What do?
You can easily spend 30 mins warming up. 10-15 mins of cardio/warm up and 15-20 mins of stretching was pretty normal for me when I went to gym. I may not be the best person to answer this though :P Ponder deep toughts for 10 mins if 30 mins of warmup feels too overpowering :P
What do you usually do reps with? I never max so all the maxes in here are irrelevant to me.
I did six reps (with help from the spotter on the last rep). I don't believe in maxes either because i see no point.
Some guy at the Gym told me, after 40 minutes of working out, it won't "work". Is this true?
No

You might want to slit your wrists in each of those workouts, but you'll see results. I don't believe in maxes either because i see no point.
Then the people who invented the Texas method and 5/3/1 are doing things that won't matter. With simple logic I can see how adding maxes helps with your strength gains bro.
I can agree that they do help strength but I would also argue that it is hard to execute good form with a weight you can only do one rep with and you can seriously injure yourself. Also, for what i'm trying to accomplish personally, i want to gain some endurance with strength. I retract my previous statement of not seeing a point, and i mean i see no point for me to do it with what i'm trying to accomplish
When you refer to endurance, what exactly do you mean? Are you talking Sprints, long distance marathons?
Started a 3 day split 3 weeks ago but now I wanna work out all the time. Might change to a 5 day split. [editline]lol[/editline]
Shrimp Alfredo Pasta, Peanuts, Ketchup Chips, Milk and two mini Snickers.
ketchup chips ftw [editline]lol[/editline] Also do you guys get queezy or nauseous when drinking/eating dairy right before or after a workout? I drink 2% milk all the time, even if I'm about to go workout/run and people call me crazy but it doesn't affect me.
Stopped drinking milk unless I feel I need it. Gives me phlegm. It's shit, as most of the food on earth.
Ok, from this day on. It's time to start putting some serious bulk on.
When you refer to endurance, what exactly do you mean? Are you talking Sprints, long distance marathons?
I think he just means being able to do things for a decent amount of time instead of being some guy that can only lift something once and be done.
for example mon - back/biceps tue - rest wed - chest/tri thur- rest friday - leg/whatever else sat - rest sun - rest
IMO a really bad split. People often exaggerate biceps's and chests part and forget that legs, although they have less different muscles, are half of your body. If you really want to be "physically in shape" (not just so that you can just brag), remember that your legs and middle section are the most important.
I can't wait til spring. Jogging in the winter is shit. I've really neglected cardio because of the cold and the mud
im gonna assume you guys know a thing or two about muscles and tendons and post this here i have tendentious in my right leg. its related to drumming and of course you need to your leg to play double bass. im trying to ease back into it, as i read online. how do i know if i should stop? I mean... should i feel anything out of the ordinary since i am trying to restrengthen a tendon? i plan on playing 3 low tempo, low impact songs every weekend to ease back in
You probably need to see a doctor if you haven't already
i have they told me to not use it and rest it that was in December
Did he give you any sort of time frame as to when you could use it again?
