Surely just neglecting my legs for a few weeks won't really hinder me all that much?
You start losing strength pretty fast once you stop working the muscles, you really shouldn't stop working them completely.
If you're spending so much time on upper body why not do lower body? Can't hurt.
And here you go thinking you know everything. No, I ate the same amount. Would you like to make any more retarded assumptions? [editline]09:54PM[/editline] I do chest/back/legs 3 days a week also. On sundays I do heavy days, squats, deadlifts, etc. etc. also, why would i spend so much time on it? I like having big arms. women think it's sexy and i think it's bad ass.
alright well at least you have days for other body parts, unlike the guy that I saw. some of the biggest arms I've seen, with the chest of a 14 year old. kind of like The Situation [editline]05:15AM[/editline]
Wrestled for 4 years, blue belt in brazilian jiu jitsu under fabio leopoldo now training under david terrell, also boxing and kick boxing 4 days a week. get at me dweeb. [editline]11:54AM[/editline] So then where did 30 pounds go? I guess if lifting weights doesn't make you lose weight, the 30 lbs i had about 6 months ago just magically disappeared when I was only weight training. Stfu and gtfo jackass [editline]11:55AM[/editline] 100% serious, on tuesdays, thursdays and saturdays you can find me doing dumbell/barbell curls, close grip bench press, hammer curls, pulldowns, skullcrushers and standing flyes. big arms are seriously ftw.
I think I'm going to start doing martial arts again....I did kickboxing/muay thai for most of my life along with other martial arts, stopped it a few years ago for other sports though.
i'm not an idiot
Incidently, I was just watching "The Longest Yard" on TV, and it was at the part where they replaced the guards steroids with estrogen pills.
Those things are freaking HUGEEEE!
Those things are freaking HUGEEEE!
My friend took something similar to those, along with protein, nitric oxide, amino acids, extra strength multivitamins and then something else. He got HUGE in about a year, but then complained of headaches, body pains and fatigue so stopped. He's still huge though.
Been working out for several weeks. I am doing a 5 X 5 based workout focusing mostly on barbell exercises. Starting low and adding weight progressively every other workout. My goals are overall to gain strength(functional, explosive, and absolute) but not necessarily tone. I care least about tonage(i.e. beauty muscles). My secondary goal is cross-training for my final varsity year of swimming. The last few weeks that I have been working out regularly, I have just been feeling fucking fantastic. I have always been a naturally athletic/strong person, but with strength training, I feel an amazing urge to push my body to the limits and become stronger and more physically capable.
i fucking hate, HATE HATE, when people say muscle slows you down.
Don't over react to everything. That is absolutely true when we talk about aerobic stamina.
And here you go thinking you know everything. No, I ate the same amount. Would you like to make any more retarded assumptions?
Read your previous posts and see how ridiculous you make yourself look. Also you claimed earlier that you do lots of cardio, which explains everything. And retarded assumption? Do any research and look what 90% of sources say about gaining muscle, calories and weight lifting efficiency as a fat burner. And haha, you should realize how you make yourself look with posts like this.:
If you think I'm not qualified to give advice on this shit i'll post my credentials Few days ago [img_thumb]http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m309/coliah/lulz-1.jpg[/img_thumb] Start of july [img_thumb]http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m309/coliah/c2.jpg[/img_thumb]

So not gonna lie, I'm a computer person in college for computer programming. I've started working on improving my diet and I want to start working out to lose some weight. I'm not overweight but I can certainly stand to lose some pounds. Basically looking for a list of exercises for a newbie that will give me a good balanced workout.
Any input from anyone else?
Any input from anyone else?
start with bodyweight exercises such as pullups, dips, chinups, pushups, etc. just to strengthen your muscles a bit and get them used to exercise. after a few weeks of this, move on to benchpress and do some cable exercises and slowly progress to barbell exercises such as squats and deadlifts, but only do them with minimal weight and practice practice practice your form
Any input from anyone else?
Well if you want to lose weight, long lasting aerobic exercise is the best. Running swimming skiing ect. Always start out slowly if you feel you're not in good shape. If you want a get muscle too, you can lift weights too but to gain better results you should do long cardio and weight lifting on different days, or do cardio first and remember to eat simply because muscle doesn't really grow well if you're on minus calories. "There is no point to grow any more muscle, because it will increase consumption" You can also try ketosis diet, which is a great way to lose weight fast. Basically means that you eat less than 40 grams of carbohydrates a day. You will feel very weak for the first few days, but when you'r body starts running on ketosis, you will feel much better. Ketosis works very well too if you wanna build muscle. For example: 1.5-2 month mass period with lots of extra calories and lots of weightlifting 2 week perioid with ketosis, cardio when you get used to it.
"There is no point to grow any more muscle, because it will increase consumption"
wat.
Anyone know of a reliable, affordable bench with weights I can purchase?
wat.
basically he thinks all weight lifters are faggots and will never get anywhere in the physical fitness. probably because he can't gain muscle. tl;dr he's butt hurt he weighs 120 lbs. [editline]12th October 2010[/editline]
Don't over react to everything. That is absolutely true when we talk about aerobic stamina.
Oh, it is? Maybe if you're a professional body builder who weighs 300 lbs and builds muscle for vanity reasons, sure. Please tell me why usain bolt does chest exercises and he is still the fastest man in the world.
Read your previous posts and see how ridiculous you make yourself look. Also you claimed earlier that you do lots of cardio, which explains everything.
Do I give a shit how ridiculous I make myself look? No, I'm trying to help people build muscle. There were plenty of things I had to figure out myself when I started taking lifting seriously, I'm just trying to save people some wasted effort and time. God forbid I help anybody.
And retarded assumption? Do any research and look what 90% of sources say about gaining muscle, calories and weight lifting efficiency as a fat burner.
Gaining muscle = requires more energy Burning more energy = increased resting metabolism Increased resting metabolism = increased fat loss. That's basic, everyone knows that. Does the actual activity of weightlifting make you lose weight itself? Maybe a very tiny bit, not much. It's the muscle gain that makes you lose weight (while simultaneously gaining in the form of muscle)
And haha, you should realize how you make yourself look with posts like this.:
Oh noz, god forbid should someone post progress pictures and be proud that they were a fat wrestler who didn't care about how he looked then finally started doing something. You sound like a fucking jack ass.
SickJitz is super cool and has a large penis. Everyone, show him respect okay?
I don't know what it is about working out, but it just gets me so pumped. I love how I can go at my own pace and I can see the progress everyday, I am also freaking pumped to work out everyday and try to beat my max or do better than the day before. Working out= <3

And if you want to gain muscle too by weightlifting, you will end up gaining weight as if eat enough. Thats why people generally use mass peroid/diet cycle. Its more efficient in a long run.
So, I've been working out for awhile now, and I really pushed myself during the President fitness pretest, but now it's been two weeks and my arms and legs burn when they're resting or brought close to my body. Any idea's?
Never noticed there was a thread in GD. Been working out for a couple months now. Since May. Seen some improvements. Tip: The secret to abs is cardio (running) and eating right. You'll get them in no time if you stick to this. All ab exercises do is strengthen your core. That's helpful, but you want to show your abs. Doing what I told you helps show them off quickly. [editline]13th October 2010[/editline]
Anyone know of a reliable, affordable bench with weights I can purchase?
Garage Sale or Craigslist. Don't by new weights or a bench. Save your money.

Oh and if you really want to get your abs to stick out, do some weighted exercises. Your core is like any other muscle, it needs some weight too, it's like doing bench instead of pushups! [editline]13th October 2010[/editline] Oh and yeah, that's where I got my first bench- a garage sale. Weights and benches are usually WAY overpriced so getting them used saves you way more than 50% if you find the right seller.
Hmm...two weeks? Are you staying hydrated? Did you not exercise at all before the fitness test or something? 14 days is a bit excessive.
I'm very hydrated, I exercise daily and did very much before the fitness test. Exercise is nothing new to me, I've been sore like this before. I've just never had it last this long.
I've got a slightly dumb question, what's the best non-weight oriented upper-body muscle building workout/exercise? (Mainly chest and arms)
I'm very hydrated, I exercise daily and did very much before the fitness test. Exercise is nothing new to me, I've been sore like this before. [editline]13th October 2010[/editline]
I've got a slightly dumb question, what's the best non-weight oriented upper-body muscle building workout/exercise?
I've got a slightly dumb question, what's the best non-weight oriented upper-body muscle building workout/exercise? (Mainly chest and arms)
Pushups if you don't want to use weights. I would recommend using weights all the same though.
Your core is like any other muscle, it needs some weight too, it's like doing bench instead of pushups!
Was holding my upper body straight out off a bench with two 45lb plates on my chest. It was an awesome lower ab workout.
Pushups if you don't want to use weights. I would recommend using weights all the same though.
I really just need something I can do after my morning run before school. Also don't have quick access to weights.
I've got a slightly dumb question, what's the best non-weight oriented upper-body muscle building workout/exercise? (Mainly chest and arms)
simple stuff would be like pull-ups/chin-ups, but also you could do push-ups. make the push-ups more challenging by adding heavy things onto your back and also by changing the position of your arms(i.e. triangle push-ups). honestly though its not too hard to find a gym with decent equipment and you could just work your upper-body there.
I really just need something I can do after my morning run before school. Also don't have quick access to weights.
Yeah pushups and dips will be good, you can do dips from a chair/table at home and pushups are self explanatory. [editline]13th October 2010[/editline] also like the guy above said, you can lift up your legs on a chair and keep the rest of your body as it would normally be in a pushup, variations like that [editline]13th October 2010[/editline]
Was holding my upper body straight out off a bench with two 45lb plates on my chest. I haven't increased my biceps from 17.5kg dumbells (started 9 weeks ago) but they're now incredibly dense. It's awesome. [editline]13th October 2010[/editline] also tricep exercises are really difficult and clumsy, what's the best one?

Make sure to keep your elbows tucked into your sides the whole time, and go up as far as you can without moving your elbows (about 45 degrees up)
