Ok guys I am in a need of a little help. I am not fat, but my stomach is totally flat. I am 18 years old 170lbs, and 6 feet tall. I would really like to get abs and start bulking up, but I dont have any money right now to get a gym membership or get any protein powders. I figure you dont need a gym membership to get toned down and abs at least. I took weight training last year and I mostly worked my legs with squats and power cleans. I think my legs are pretty damn beasty, I can squat 325lbs, and clean 175. But anyways I want some help losing the little fat I have and getting abs. I have been running over the summer too, I can go a little over a mile before I tucker out and have to rest, but I did it almost everyday over the summer. So my questions are: 1. How many small meals should I be eating a day? I have heard eating multiple small meals is alot better than eating 3 bigger meals each day. 2. What kinds of food are the best for losing fat? I am assuming for some of these meals I can eat apples and other fruit. I normally drink nothing but water all day long. 3. What kind of cardio workouts are best for losing fat and getting abs? Like I said above, I ran just over a mile everyday over the summer, but since school started I have not been doing so. I am going to start doing it again on Monday and hopefully build my stamina more. 4. Will Protein powder make you gain fat? 5. In how long should I expect to see results? Here is a photo I took today of my little gut I have Any tips or tricks to share? THANKS!
that's a good start but doing it with the bar without the rail in a squat cage is 10x better. and yeah, squats is definitely the exercise where if you go hard it hurts for at least 2 days lol, feels good man
Yeah, it definitely does. My legs seem to be a bit more sore today than they were yesterday (That could be because of my work shift though.) It did suck when i would have to squat down to dig something out of the back of one of our coolers, but it wasn't too bad. Guess they will loosen up tonight when i go run and work on arms and chest tonight.

THANKS!
http://www.quickfasting.com/the_pre-fast_program.html Guy who wrote this is fucking whacky as shit, but if you take heed of the diet he explains, you'll be on your way. Srsly. The diet in here is no joke. His religious reference is much too strong, but he knows what he's talking about. The diet mentioned here has nothing to do with weight loss, but if you jump on it, you -will- lose weight, and if combined with intense or moderate excersise that gets your heart-rate pumping *lolcardio*, you'll lose the fat. Remember that abdominal fat is the last fat to go, and it -can- take a long time depending on your body type, metabolism, your motivation and willpower, etc', but I know none of that, so I will mind my own business. Reading over this thing is also a bit interesting, but I never bothered with any of it. But to lose gut, cardio+diet, read the rest of the thread and especially watch VQ35HRs past posts

But to make this diet really work, you should do cardio twice a day. 2. Cut down on fried foods, candy, soda, and any other sweets. If you're going to drink something, drink water. Seriously. 3. For fat burning exercises you need to run long distance, one mile isn't going to do much. Pace yourself to jog 45-60 minutes without stopping, even if that means almost walking. At first you may not be able to achieve this but pace yourself to last as long as you can.

I'm not huge on weight training, but I can bench about eighty or ninety pounds. I'm more into core training and cardio, just because I'm a cross country/track runner. Distance guys need to be tall, thin and have a strong core, so that's what I aim for. I've already got lean and semi-strong abs (no fat, but it's not all worked muscle yet). Anyone have any suggestions for making that stronger?
WTF, you can only bench 80 or 90 pounds?
How good are pushups for your chest? What's the best at home workout I can do for chest/abs/thighs while I'm not at the gym?
WTF, you can only bench 80 or 90 pounds?
He may be putting 90 on the bar. So that would be 135 pounds if he uses a standard 45 pound bar.
How good are pushups for your chest? What's the best at home workout I can do for chest/abs/thighs while I'm not at the gym?
Pushups are great exercise. It really depends on what your goals are though. I'd say invest in some dumbells and workout with those at home. You can probably find a decent set if you look at a few garage sales.

THANKS!
You should try and eat either 5-6 small meals or 3 big meals and have big snacks in between, or any other way you want to interchange those two, really you should be eating once every 3-4 hours and then having snacks in between (fruits, granola bars, etc.) Try and cut out junk food and that's it really. Any cardio work is good but what I heard is you need to do at least 20 minutes of cardio before you start burning substantial amounts of fat. Protein powder could only make you gain fat if you have way too much of it (cause each scoop of for example Myofusion has 25g of protein and 200 calories or something around there). If you take it in moderation you'll be fine, but since you just want to cut down it's not essential. Progress totally depends on you, if you have a calorie deficit, are eating healthy and are constantly doing cardio I'm thinking in a month you'd see a decent improvement since you're not in completely bad shape.
peanut butter sandwiches aren't that good for you because they combine carbs and fat. even if you're not going for the ~~low carb lifestyle~~ you should at least try and keep the two separate because fat is very calorie dense

Tasty as fuck and calorie dense for very little size. Fuck it, PB in general is like the ultimate bulking food. Chuck it in everything you bitch ass sissy hos. Also there's no actual problem with combining C + Fs in such a manner. Except for the fact that it's tasty as all get out and you'll end up eating too much.
Bro^, rape, GET PUMPED PROTEIN!!!
How many reps should an average set of an Abs exercise have? Say if I'm doing weighted crunches, how many reps and sets is best for muscle building?
would be useful if someone replied I usually do 30 crunches per set but I don't think that's right, but if I do only 15/set then my abs won't tire at all.
would be useful if someone replied I usually do 30 crunches per set but I don't think that's right, but if I do only 15/set then my abs won't tire at all.
For weighted crunches, I believe that anywhere from 10-15 is pretty good, seeing as your core is pretty much like every other muscle, if you have enough weight, 15 reps should be pretty good. And for all the other non weighted exercises try and do as many as you can really and then start over. For example, for non weighted I do crunches to one side 20 times, then to the other 20 times, then down the middle 20 times, then bicycles for 20. [editline]18th October 2010[/editline] if 15 is not enough you can move the weight up
I've decided to lose some weight and from what I gather it seems like I should be doing a lot of cardio and cut them carbs. I'm currently at 207 pounds, 6ft1, and I can't really do long cardio workouts because I never really exercised because of my asthma so my cardiovascular system and lungs are a complete mess. I'm confused.
Go on a calorie deficit Lift heavy things
