you can actually do pushups a lot more often than you can bench, because benching uses foreign resistance to work your body, and you need recovery time to go back to benching. talking like a day or so if you work out really hard. however, you could do pushups all day and not get too sore since you're just using your own body's weight as resistance. if that makes sense.
Right but when you're only using your own body weight and you do it very often you're going to progress pretty fast and eventually be able to do a fuckton of pushups but not get much benefit from it. You can move the weights up if you're doing free weights, with pushups you're pretty much stuck with only highering of the reps, or making it a bit more complex like triangle pushups or clap pushups.
Holy shit you did that in three weeks? I think I should point a person I know in the direction of this thread...
Exercise put hair on your chest.
I lift weights because my doctor said I had to for part of my treatment.
Postan a three weeks comparison shot. Yes I am aware the lighting is abit different in each photo http://meta.filesmelt.com/downloader.php?file=Progress.jpg
lol that's one of the first 3 week comparison shots I've ever seen-can't really do much in 3 weeks but I'm looking forward to seeing some 6 month progress pics what's your routine, bodyweight, and 1rmaxes?

An easy way to make pushups harder. Just put a weight on your back. CAREFULLY
I can do pushups with my girlfriend sitting on my back :smug: [editline]05:08AM[/editline] Not very many though
I wish I had the dedication to work out like you guys. It's really hard to find an exercise plan for me though since I'm such a tiny little stick who can't even lift 45 lbs without really struggling.
Jay Cutler just won Mr.Olympia, not that anyone watches it. I'm taking a year off from wrestling and bulking up to 240-250lbs. Currently 6' 210. Will be a easy 220-225 after football though.
how are your stats only like 20-40 pounds off of mine and I have been working out for 2 years I guess I'm doing something wrong you should post vids
Well I've always had like extremely strong legs for some reason, my upper body is really what's lacking.
I honestly don't believe in using muscle mass drinks. Its not i think that they don't work. Its that when I get stronger or faster or go up a weight class I feel more pride. I do believe in changing ones diet when starting to work out.But what ever helps. [editline]12:50AM[/editline]
I wish I had the dedication to work out like you guys. If you feel guilty for ingesting something you would have anyways but instead of eating a fuckton of cottage cheese you have a delicious smoothie then I guess to each their own. [editline]05:53AM[/editline]
Well I've always had like extremely strong legs for some reason, my upper body is really what's lacking.
you actually do better squats than me and my deadlifts and bench is only 40 pounds off or yours wtf lol PLEASE post some videos I have a tough time believing this. My gym is full of people that look EXACTLY like you and I have never seen anyone of them lift up more than 135 on ANYTHING. I guess you could be an exception. It's not that I don't believe you, it's just that I have a hard time doing so :v:

They're simple, free, portable, and effective. Benching isn't always free, you have to change weights, and works out basically the same muscles. Also, for the easily intimidated/self-esteen lacking people it may be a better choice. I know I still dislike/avoid going to the gym because I am quite scrawny. (I'm in the Air Force, so I'm not out of shape, my metabolism is just through the roof). I suggest these for anyone who have that problem: http://www.warehousedeals.com/Cap-Barbell-40Pound-Dumbbell-Set/M/B000VCDXNS.htm?traffic_src=froogle&utm_medium=organic&utm_source=froogle They're cheap, and effective. They fit in a dorm room easily. And you can find some workouts online. Also, you can work out many different muscles with them. Honestly though, I'm no professional and quite the newbie at actual weightlifting, but this is what I've learned in the past month or so. I don't have much free time, I don't go to the gym, but I did find ways to work out. The biggest first step is deciding to do it though.

I could do a video of deads at a later date though.
playing football (American) worked for me, shame I didn't keep working out after I graduated.
the only real work out i do is about a 100 push ups a day. I dont know if thats a lot or not cause i never asked anyone
Also VQ35HR, I feel like I should point out that the three weeks picture progress thing is not when I started working out. I've been working out on and off for about a year and just started hitting the weights really hard about 6-7 weeks ago.
Lol no more than 135? What the fuck? I could do 135 in my SLEEP. But seriously being 140 and 6 foot, that's taller than me but you weigh less. Those stats are completely believable but not for someone who's been only going for 3 weeks lol.
My arms are bare bones right now, I should try to get some weights exercise sometime. :saddowns:
Those stats are completely believable but not for someone who's been only going for 3 weeks lol.
Refer to post right above yours, I probably should have said that earlier.

What is a good goal for free-weights? I have no access to a bench-press or any sort of exercise machine.
the only real work out i do is about a 100 push ups a day. guess I should start working out again... gained 40 pound after 2 years of doing nothing... ugh. I weight 140lbs then, now I think I'm around 180lbs. I'm 6'1/2"
